guys today i was adjusting the air volume screw and found out a way for a ideal setup ..Originally posted by nox2505 View PostThe SVC nearby is 50kms from my home and there is only one MECHANIC, who tightens the plastic handlebar cover with help of 2 feet long pipe, sets chain slackness to 0-5mm. Imagine how idiot he is. Better i will reopen and assemble the carb again.
And secondly, when it got red hot, i was running only outer air filter, and fuel volume screw lower than 3 turns, as i was adjusting it. now at about 3 and half turns, its seeming to be normal.
Though, its normal now, lets see after 2 days of under observation.
what i did was ..
turned on the engine and kept a keen eye on the RPM meter while adusting the screw ..at a particular point[turn] the RPM will be more than the rest of the turns ..i guess thats the best setup ..
correct me if i am wrongFACEBOOK

man you're running "super rich"....Originally posted by nox2505 View PostAnd secondly, when it got red hot, i was running only outer air filter, and fuel volume screw lower than 3 turns, as i was adjusting it. now at about 3 and half turns, its seeming to be normal.
the ideal setting for RTR is between 4.15-4.30, and this is too in the rich area....

this is the best way to tune a 2 and 4 stroke
make it about 1/4 more loose after you'll get tht instant rush of RPM (indicating you reached the optimum setting)..
how much turns you opened????????
cuz the RTR's ideal setting falls at 4.15-4.30 screws after fully tightin it....

I do it same way but yesterday, i was getting that sudden rush after about 7 turns
, which we get in normal bike also, but its super rich because after quickly twisting throttle and releasing, engine retards slowly. when i bought bike, the stock setting was 3 turns
.
today i reopened and cleaned the carb again, now i got the regular rpm rush at 3.45 turns
. yesterday, i was not getting it, so i set it on 3.5 turns randomly. after setting it at 3.45 turns today, i tried running engine at 6k+ rpms for 2-3 mins. the header got very slight red hot, seeming to be normal, considering no floing air and high humidity. i will try resetting carb after an hour and will post the result.
@renny, i must be running lean, cos in rtr carb, loosening is richer and tightening is leaner, is it correct joel?Last edited by nox2505; 07-16-2009, 03:17 PM.There's lot to it other than saddle....

tht was typo...
3 is lean....
7 turns is goddmn RICH...ur slow jet was blocked man for sure....
may be i'm wrong in proper "turns" setting department too but if you got tht rush at 3.45 thn 4.00 is the perfect setting(.15 on the rich side)...
yes you're right loosening is rich and tighting is lean....
plz post exactly at how must turns tht RPM boosted.....Originally posted by sam92 View Postphew ..

i setteled with 3.75 turns, the rpm started rising from near to 3.25 turns, and kept increasing upto 3.5 something. its damn smooth now. engine rpm changes with throttle input, retards quick, vibes are way low. no pahtaak phataak sound while decline. i speeded at abt 60 in 3rd for 2-3 minutes on matheran ghat(incline). then kept engine revved to 8k-9k for 2-3 mins. then the exhaust header got slightly red hot, but it was negligible. i have seen many RTRs with brown or dusty coloured(due to burnt paint i think) exhaust header, which means its normal. we may not be able to see it in run because of air cooling. this red hot exhaust may not be visible in other bikes due to plating. There's lot to it other than saddle....

Guys how much do these parts cost?
Apache 150 handlebar
RTR Refresh chain-sprocket set (about 750 I think for this one, correct if wrong)
RTR clutch assembly
RTR Refresh chain cover
Apache 150 disc brake pads"One love, one heart. Let's get together and feel all right."
The love affair goes on. 18-DEC-2006.

one turn=360 degrees. you're counting every 180 deg or half-turn.Originally posted by sam92 View Posti had to lose it about 11.5 turns
and the number of turns WILL vary from carb/bike to carb/bike. Many reasons like state of tune, engine/clutch condition, sometimes the threads of the screws/carb body are worn, and it could even be dirt or other obstructions in the jets.
here's a pretty simple guide to setting your carb, also called the idle drop procedure in other parts.
The idle drop method of adjusting the CV carb idle mixture - The Sportster and Buell Motorcycle Forum
edit: the site has a pretty detailed discussion on carb tuning and plugs; i do not know about the correctness of the statements made further on, just that the first post is a decent rough guide to setting idle properly.
edit2: the thread is about a harley sportster so don't bother with exact figures. just the method.Last edited by julianpaul; 07-17-2009, 08:24 AM.

Get the carb sump and jets cleaned and vaccum bubble of round slide also. and then set it. with ur current settings, twist the throttle full and release if engine retards slowly, u r running very rich, with which spark plug would become black. There's lot to it other than saddle....
