1. Cylinder block and head should be a direct fit of 180. I doubt if the block from 200 will be a easy mod. No changes required in my opinion. Maybe the exhaust port on the engine block may require little work to fit the bend pipe of exhaust.Originally posted by Hitesh Harry View Post

Apache 160 cylinder swap with 200 4v
Hello everyone, i am currently working on a Apache RTR 160 on the visual front, like drastically change it into a sports bike with ferring. I have some queries and doubts about the engine mods, as i had read earlier ihave two questions-
1. Can i replace the cylinder and head with one from a 200 4v, if yes what kind of ignition and wirings i have to replace. If no can i replace the cylinder and head from RTR 180? , What changes i have to make to other parts of the engine like tge crankshaft or timing etc.
2. Can i make the engine oil cooled with radiator like we see on the pulsar 220, if yes will it be helpful to increasing the thermal efficiency or performance?

First check if it is 110/80-17 size tires or 100/80-18 size.
If 17 inch then zapper c 110/80-17 is the perfect choice. Or upgrade to 120/80-17 massester x. Anything bigger is not advisable.
If 18 inch, then 100/90-18 masseter x, zapper vyde from mrf gives you best grip in both wet and dry conditions. There are plenty options in 100/90-18 size. Getting the same profile as stock 100/80-18 is difficult apart from tvs tires.

Zapper Q does not come with 110/80 size. Only Zapper C comes with 110/80 size, also ceat zoom tyres is also available in 110/80 size.

My suggestion would be to go for Zapper Q for rear and Zapper FS for the front. Have been using the same since 5 years. Replaced the rear one with the same model again in Nov 2017. This tyre combination gave me excellent grip and confidence with Apache FI. I read that the new Remora tyres have similar grip levels as Zapper Q. you can use the remora 110/80 tyre or MRF zapper c 110/80. The remora tyres are much better than the previous version of stock tvs tyres.

I am using TVS Apache RTR 160 front disc and i have done 27000 km's with factory installed tvs tyres. But the rear tyre has been gone completely. now i need to replace the rear Tyre. I am confused which tyre should i use from MRF, Michelin, Ceat or some other. which has a good dry as well as wet road grip. it is too dangerous to drive on the existing tyre now and on sharp curves at road i suspect it may slip some day.

No issue in converting to carburettor. But the main pain area will be getting the coil and magneto to supply power to the carb wiring. I had converted to a carb but had to keep the wiring of fi bike and ecu as the tps. Not sure how the mechanic you know has done it using the carb bike's wiring kit. I suggest getting the fuel injector changed rather than going for a carb conversion. See if you can source a 6 hole or 8 hole fuel injector. That should solve the fuelling issues. And always keep 3 litres of petrol to ensure fuel pump inside the tank functions properly. The ECU performs better in cold conditions. It hates hot climate. So first take it 1 by 1 - Fuel injectors, temp sensor, then wiring (check for cuts in wire), then tune the ecu for rich setting, then the throttle body and fuel pump.
If none of these solve the problem, then get an estimate for the conversion. Chances are you might wanna go for a new bike than take the headache of fixing it.

The mechanic in my nearest TVS service centre says that he has already converted 2 Fi Apaches to carburettor so far and another TVS mechanic next town says he has converted 9 Apaches so far. The usual failure component, they claim, is petrol pump.
Is there anyone here who has converted his Apache 160 Fi to carburettor?

Too bad that fuel injection in Apache is not that great. I don't think there will be any cons(other than slight difference in Throttle Response). if you convert to a carburettor. For the past 3 months, my 2010 Apache 160 Fi stops randomly while running and doesn't restart. TVS showrooms ran ECU diagnostics and told to replace Wiring kit and Throttle position sensor. But I am not able to get the parts through TVS. I had already replaced ECU in 2015.
The service engineer recommend me to convert my Fuel injector into carburettor using carburettor of RTR 160 as parts are not available.
Are there any cons to convert my Fi to carburettor?

New apache 160 4v launched with the performance figures of the current rtr 180 bs4. Design wise its very identical to rtr 200 except for the splits seats.
Looks like we won't see rtr 180 any more, as TVS cannot fit the 180 between rtr 200 and rtr 160.
Also the rtr 160 4v launched
for 81490 for carb/drum version (110/80 section tyre)
for 84490 for carb/disk version (130/70 section tyre with 200mm rear disk)
for 89900 for fi/disk version (130/70 section tyre with 200mm rear disk and 60/55w hs1 headlight, Gear postion indicator)
