An update after a long time.
I had replaced the rear shocks of my RTR 160 eFI last year with the stock shocks. However my bad luck or bangalore's bad road, one of the shocks got busted and was leaking oil. With no other option but to replace them I was looking for options other than stock. Also, I wanted a relatively softer ride and was willing to compromise on handling a bit.
With various suggestions online, I asked my mech for options and he suggested the rear shocks from the TVS Phoenix. I was curious as the phoenix came with "series-spring" rear shock abosrber covered well here in Xbhp as well. However this not being gas charged i was a bit disappointed. And then my brillaint mech gave me this info that the very short lived Phoenix got a mid life upgrade in 2015 and the shock absorber too got an upgrade- it was a gas charged series spring shock absorber.
Now came the difficult part - sourcing this rare item. We had to wait for more than 10 days to get this elusive part but the wait was worth it.
The ride is comfortable now and the handling is still top notch. It takes a day or two to get used to but once past it, its amazing. This is a wonderful upgrade to the bike and I am loving this super responsive and comfortable rear end. Im waiting to change my rear tyre to make the full use of the handling the bike has now to offer.
This part can go with the pretty much all the dual shock Apaches - 150, 160 & 180.
Also a word to my brilliant mech - Rajesh of First Bikes, Bangalore - He is terrific and his enthu in getting me this part was also what pushed me. Folks in Bangalore should get their bike worked upon by this man. Now for the pics on the bike and the cost + part nos.
