Apache RTR 160 - Remodelling Ideas

Hi friends,

It's been long while i'm here. ok let me introduce myself before we get into the topic.
I'm Dinesh From Tirupur - TamilNadu. I'm Self Employed. I have an Apache, A Duke 200 and A RC390

In my 3 bikes apache is the elder one crossed 4 years and now i feel apache to be really old so i wanna remodel my vehicle.

I have came across a photo in internet so i thought i could ask you guys abut it and i could get some alteration ides by experts here.



What type of alterations i want to make?
1. No Engine alteration.
2. I wanna Remodel my bike with a new refreshing look.
3. Increase comfort.

What type of look i expect?
1 As you see in the picture above i like Cruiser / cafe rider looks.

APACHE RTR 160 gives low mileage even after servicing.

This is my first post on this (any) forum, so apologies in advance if make any mistake.
I own APACHE RTR 160 of 2010 model which just finished 50k km. Its has always given me an average within 47-55 km. Some months back there was an oil leakage from the engine head which i got fixed from a local mechanic at hyderabad. After that my bike started giving random average which was less than 20 km/ltr. So i serviced my bike from another mechanic but the situation did not improved.
After bringing my bike back to Nashik Maharashtra i got it some how fixed but the average this time was 38-40 km/ltr. This average was constant for some 1000 km but then again it dropped to 30km/ltr and did not improve.
Finally i went to Authorized TVS service center and told them the whole story. They performed regular servicing of my bike and told that if mileage did not improve then piston and some other parts need to be changed which would cost around 8k.
Has any one gone from this kind of situation and could help me.
Even tough the average has dropped the engine still runs smoothly there are no noises. Only issue here is the mileage. I have checked for leakage but there are none.
Within last 8 months i have serviced my bike from 5 different mechanics but none could fixed it and replied engine needs to be opened and checked.
Also are their any reliable mechanics in Pune where they can properly isolate the issue and fix it in low cost. Because TVS svc are asking way above my spending limits.

Get the engine head and pistons decarbonised. The engine might be facing loss of compression. Add new piston rings if possible and change air filter. Check oil level with the current state of bike. If the bike is drinking oil then you might wanna get the engine work done.

It has been 20 days since the last service. I will go the svc and check again with the points you told.

I am just speculating since you said engine was running fine. First check the oil and look for white smoke from the exhaust. If engine is drinking oil then its a sign of bore and piston wearing out. Next check for the tire pressure you are running on. Since servicing is not an issue with your bike, I doubt carb and sprockets are a reason to worry. So was speculating the bike might be facing loss of compression due to carbon accumulation in the head and piston. Do some self checks for which you don't have to go to the service center. Also given the odometer running of the bike it could be some wear and tear in the engine internals.
Anyway keep us posted. You don't have to follow what I said. You know your bike better. Hope the issues get resolved soon.

The positive side of this situation is i am getting to learn more about my bike. I belong to IT field so i have less/no knowledge about bikes internal working. Usually i make sure its serviced on time.
For this particular problem i am taking matter into my own hands. I will try to inspect the bikes oil level. Since bike has lost some of its pickup(50k km) i will ask for decarbonization once i visit the svc. It will be a slow process since its hard to get a day off from work. I will post with updates next time.

I need a help in purchasing bike.
I am going to buy a bike in Diwali,it should be 150-160 cc.
Currently I am riding Splendor NXG.(last 6 years), and I am very tired with the bike.
So please suggest me a good bike , mu requirement are as follows-
1) Min 45 kmpl mileage (city)
2) Not more than 90k
3) Good pick up
4) Cheap to Maintain
5) Long lasting ( I'll use it min 5 yrs)

So, I am 5,9" and weighing 90 kgs ( reducing weight ) please suggest me a Good Bike.

Hii Guys,
Today I visited 2 TVS Showrooms for TD and quotation of Apache 160 in Pune.
I am attaching quotations of the bikes which is given to me.
Sadly one of the showroom ( Kalamkar TVS located in Balewadi Phata Baner) didn't give me TD.
Other showroom ( Century TVS Wakadewadi Shivajinagar) gave me TD, I liked the bike but speedometer was off so I didn't judge at what speed I am riding bike.
I love the bike overall.
I take TD of Gixxer also which is located opposite to Century TVS.
Pickup of Gixxer was just Awesom.I drive the bike upto 82kmph just within seconds.The TD bike was in so bad condition,the bike felt same as FZ 16 (one of friend have it).
But price of Gixxer is looking so High compared to Apache.
I will get rear disk Apache 160+ Choice No. + 2 months of petrol in the cost of Gixxer.

Can I bargan more with the price of the bikes ? If yes , then how much?

Guys so much confusion in both bikes,
I am favoured in Apache more, so please need your Advice.

^^^Dude I would suggest the Rtr any day being a previous owner. I have ridden the gixxer as well. It terms of performance Rtr is better than gixxer. Little vibey but you will get over with the vibes. On the other hand gixxer is refined, has decent power and considering your height might well suit your requirements. But go ahead with which your heart moves. Maintenance might be almost the same for both the bikes. You should be able to squeeze 45 kmpl mileage in both the bikes. If maintained well both the bikes will do the job for you. Else you have alternates in Unicorn, Yamaha r15s (though might be bit costly), even the Rtr 180 or 200 etc etc

Even I have learnt things the same way by taking matter into own hands. That's the fun of biking for me. Though I learnt some things the hard way, but I am not disappointed. It made me better and more a better person.

Hi I bought RTR160 Matte Blue couple of days back.
So far only 200odd kms are done.

Today I wanted to test console and found a very odd information saying that my top speed is 134kmph. I haven't crossed 50kmph but how is this possible?
Was my bike misused by dealer or already abused by other test rider?
I remember that ODO said 7km when I took delivery but didn't check top speed there though.

Hi Guys,

My RTR 160 is due for a complete service. My Odo reads 38500 now. Last service was done from service centre at 34k. I don't trust the service centre guys here. So I wanted to do it myself with the help of a friendly mechanic. I need input from you guys to identify what are the things I need to do. I have listed down the following items. Some of them are already by myself (marked complete). Please help me with anything that I have missed. No major complaints apart from the things listed below.

Thinks done:

1. Engine Oil & Oil filter change - Complete
2. Replace rear break shoes - Complete
3. Front Disk Pads change - Complete

Things Planned:

1. Replace cone set on front suspension - I am hearing tuk tuk sound on bad roads. Friend(mechanic) suggested to replace the cone set
2. Replace chain sprocket - Chain is due for replacement
3. Replace front left indicator - This is boken, needs a replacement
4. Rear tyre change - Needs replacement, please suggest which one
5. Check Spark plug
6. Air filter cleaning
7. Complete wash

Please let me know if I needs to check or do anything as part of regular maintenance.

Do the things as per "Things Planned".
Change spark plug and air filter if still running on the stock one. For tire, plz confirm if the rim size is 17 or 18 inch. If 17 inch, you are left with mrf zapper c ( if you can source it) or the Remora ones. Some of the members are running on 120/80 profile. See if you can source that profile tires. Else you can look for 110/90 profile tires. If 18 inch, then I would suggest the Mrf zapper vyde 100/90.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have replaced my spark plug on last service. Not sure about the Air filter though. Will check the condition and see if it requires replacement. Any idea how much a new Air filter costs? My rear tyre is 18". I will checkout MRF vyde.
