  • They just wanted to show it that it's a 160cc bike.Expect similar readings in the 180cc bike from TVS!!

It's all about pure 'show' no 'go'!!

At every tankfull I get, I reset the trip A meter to zero. Today when I did that, I went through to the Hi Speed page. It suddenly staterd showing 160 Kmph. The fastest i have ever done in my RTR is 103 kmph( didnt have the guts to go faster).
Well, i thought i'll reset the value, but to my surprise, the value is not resetting. It is constantly showing that the Hi speed attained on the bike is 160.
          Any ideas what to do?
Thats a fault with those meters, whenever you will take the bike to a very high RPM or say rev the nuts loose it will behave like this i have personally tried this many times.

Also now my bike doesn't start in one press of the starter like earlier, it starts on the 2nd one now,I have to depress the starter button for longer now, before it was like a feather touch .What could be off ?

Ok and one last thing, how can the alignment of the wheel be checked? At the back wheel, the markers visible on the swingarm should be the same on both sides right?Anything else that can be checked?

My rear disc still makes some sound even after multiple water and air pressure washes!
ok, this only further strengthens my theory that the bikes get worse after a service. but that's not acceptable eh?

the chain noise is probably because they adjusted the chain during the service. in lower gears we're usually moving slower with varying throttle inputs. during periods of closed/less throttle, the slack on the chain increases and it grinds against some part of the bike. when you increase throttle, the load on the chain increases, taking up the slack - hence no noise then.

the starter issue could be because of an incorrect tappet or air/fuel ratio setting which again may have been done during the service.

i've faced both these problems right after servicing too so i can relate to your situation. however, WHATEVER is wrong with your bike, tvs has a responsibility to fix it, so just go to the svc and dont let up till they solve the issues to your satisfaction. it's not your headache to figure out what's wrong with the bike, it's their's to fix it.

the only solution to a squeaky rear disc is to remove the pads and LIGHTLY clean them. but the problem will most likely resurface since the rear wheel throws up more road debris which sometimes gets into the caliper. and since your in goa there could be more sand around which is pretty darn abrasive. juts try removing the pads a couple times and cleaning them. beyond that it's probably not a good idea to keep opening the caliper assy.

Each run on a dyno costs nothing less than 500 Rs. There wouldn't be any changes in peak power or peak torque figures with just an oil change.
Since the Dyno can't quantify things such as throttle response, eagerness to rev etc, a dyno run would be an expensive as well as a pointless exercise.

Thanks for the clarification. Any idea how this test undergoes?? e.g. what's connected to what???

Btw guven good riding conditions, am sure you will slowly be riding faster on the rtr.... there was a time when i used to cruise in 80s average.... and now I cruise at 100+ on the RTR
RTR has added atleast 10KMs to my average speed (which the R15 has topped by another 10 )

The bike will be placed on a roller which will be powered by the bikes rear wheel. The bike'll be taken through the gears and a readout gives one the necessary details.
                    Some Bajaj PBK's have dyno's...

                      • stuck with a Dud Bike!!!

                        End of the Nightmare?...Naa...

Everything about my Apache RTR FI 160 in as few words as possible:
4 months of patience & 2 "legal notice" type letters asking for a refund or repair of my dud bike result in a spectacular reaction on part of TVS-They figure out that their "Everything is Normal" kind of response is no longer working.Guess what they did?.They discovered that the Fuel Injection Pipe in the fuel tank is defective & replaced it.They also discover that there is a loose fitting component in the silencer which they rectified.
                        End of a nightmare?.Naa...

Next it was the turn of the rear disk brake to take command of maintaining the offensive.
I noticed that the rear disk plate is getting very hot because there is unwanted friction with the brake pads all the time, irrespective of me applying the rear brakes.I noticed it because of the screeching noise which you hear when one applies disk brake because the brake pad is at it's fag end of life & needs to be replaced.I replaced the brake pad on my expense, but the friction was still there.TVS service centre people said that the rear disk set has to be changed.Still, they changed the disk plate but not the entire disk brake set.Result?...The friction is still there. The rear disk plate is getting incredibly hot in the distance of just 4-5 KMS.It's eating away the brake pad & 2 months later after getting the brake pad & disk plate changed, the brake pad is again at it's fag end of life.

It's been 6 months since i purchased this bike & it's been in the service centre for at least 15 days, including 1 week in TVS service centre for the rear disk brake issue, when absolutely nothing was done about the issue.

With such a long list of terrible experiences,i know for sure that expecting your TVS bike to get repaired under warranty which a customer is entitled to is next to impossible.
I tried getting service support online at "http://www.tvsmotor.in/contactus.asp".And the response i got from them was just this-"Thank You,we'll get back to you shortly".It's been 10 days & i am still waiting.
I decided to try my luck again. This time i encountered a sugar bag whose job brief appears to be-deny,deny & deny.No matter what i said he just denied it by saying everything is normal. The free play of my rear tyre is disgustingly tight. He still thinks it's normal.

He goes by the name of Surinder Babu & is a TVS company appointed Engineer for Hyderabad Circle. He is like a rock-unmoved & unaffected. Here is his mobile number-09440611584.Try contacting him if you reside in or around Hyderabad.Maybe you can make him squeal.
You can also visit my blog "http://www.tvsapachertrfi160.blogspot.com/" to get a blow by blow account of all that i have gone through in much more detail.

The SF rating isn't what's recommended for my Uni. So that puts Shell outta the equation.

Any idea if the Shell petrol pumps stock 10W30 mineral variants..?
Correction : The Shell Advance S 4T 20W40 IS of API SG grade only. I checked it with the can and confirmed. Earlier i had a look at the website and told it as API SF

well you can do something, if it is showing 160 then reset highest speed again and it will work fine (at least it worked for me )

first time mine showed 116, then it corrupted to 160, one day i reset it and the bug never came again, mine now still showing 128

                              try and let me know.

I tried that already. Twice. It doesn't reset. Still keeps showing 160.
