    • Hey guys I got an RTR Refresh and saw most of you guys getting 50kmpl, I just checked my mileage and it was a dismal 43kmpl... Well my bike gas done just 810 kms with the 1st service done at 650kms, is this normal, most of it is city riding and riding at about 40-45kmph...

The wings are specially designed aerodynamic wings for high speed stability!

Well its just a cosmetic mod, nothing great, both have the same killer dynamics.Performance wise I read in this thread many pages back that the refresh makes a little more power over the older rtr owing to a change in the exhaust.Plus it sounds a bit different...

Dont worry its normal, it will increase slightly as you cover more kms.
Also mileage is highly dependant on one's riding style so as long as you are not way off the mark dont worry

any way.. congratz on your new bike.. happy riding and ride safe
Thanks bro... it was after you suggested that I paid a visit to Bharath TVS and got my baby there

And yeah, I did already get the teflon coat and the seat cover. Also got the bike cover and I cover it every night

As for my riding experience so far... it's simply great. I'm holding back and not crossing 50kmph until it reaches the 1K km mark. The exhaust note is awesome (especially after using my dad's 12 year old Splendor for 2 years ) as many of you said earlier! The gear shifting is butter smooth and always shifts successfully with a single gentle push/pull.

The speedo display and the blue backlight look great, but would've been nicer if there was some way to turn on the backlight without actually starting the bike during night time. Also, a couple of times, I noticed missing throttle response in 3rd gear between 2k-3k rpm. Is this normal? Is there something I need to get checked?

By the way, here's a small quote from the FI thread in the First Impressions section:

How do I access the 3 readings? I only see one of each.

            • My RTR is 11500 km old and recently I have cleaned the Air filter with Kerosene and lube it with some 20W40 oil, not much but socked it with the same. Secondly change the oil filter and pour a liter of Golf Pride 4T. Every thing is OK till today, I suddenly feel that engine is getting bit harsh in low RPM and the throttle response is not even in hot condition, but in the morning or when it is cold, its real pleasure to ride it. Duno why I miss the sweet handling of the bike.
One month back I have clean the carb properly and I found some better result after that, but it is only one month, should it to clean again.
Lastly When i feel that the engine is getting harsh, I used to switch it off for a second and then every thing become normal, it will again getting harsh after a 10-12 km. What could be the prob, any IDEA, I have checked the oil level, its normal, i mean proper.
Do u suspect its clutch wear or what?
At the very fast months of riding my RTR, I used to face the problem, that time I had cleaned the TPS switch with WD40, and the problem just vanished, but after riding almost 10000 km it again back, even cleaning the TPS doesn’t help.

              Ned helps please.

** BTW I don’t prefer visiting SS for this problem, they have no clue about this small probs, and they just know how to solve your problem without the proper solutions. So I used to service my bike myself regularly.

                    nothing as such...
those "wings" are for looks only and they dont even direct the air to the engine for better cooling leave alone those "aerodynamic" thing........!!!!!

refresh has the same 15.2ps as the old RTR and also sports the same exhaust.....
thr RTR FI has the different exhaust....
apart from the scoops, open chain and the console with features as the FI the bike is all the same....

just read what SAI ACE said.....

                    c'mon man.....who would be driving a 16ps,12000 manic RPM machine at 2000-3000RPM....
take it as a indication tht the bike is meant to be drivven hard......

avoid puuting oil in the air filter after cleaning it, though it is recommended but it do hampers the air flow....instead increase the intervals of cleaning the air filter(evry 1000km or 800km)but dont oil it....

check the plug gap and colour is it normal?????
cuz the things u mentioned here thr seems to be prob in tht and not in clutch or the carb jets....

Everything about my Apache RTR FI 160 in as few words as possible:
4 months of patience & 2 "legal notice" type letters asking for a refund or repair of my dud bike result in a spectacular reaction on part of TVS-They figure out that their "Everything is Normal" kind of response is no longer working.Guess what they did?.They discovered that the Fuel Injection Pipe in the fuel tank is defective & replaced it.They also discover that there is a loose fitting component in the silencer which they rectified.
                      End of a nightmare?.Naa...

Next it was the turn of the rear disk brake to take command of maintaining the offensive.
I noticed that the rear disk plate is getting very hot because there is unwanted friction with the brake pads all the time, irrespective of me applying the rear brakes.I noticed it because of the screeching noise which you hear when one applies disk brake because the brake pad is at it's fag end of life & needs to be replaced.I replaced the brake pad on my expense, but the friction was still there.TVS service centre people said that the rear disk set has to be changed.Still, they changed the disk plate but not the entire disk brake set.Result?...The friction is still there. The rear disk plate is getting incredibly hot in the distance of just 4-5 KMS.It's eating away the brake pad & 2 months later after getting the brake pad & disk plate changed, the brake pad is again at it's fag end of life.

It's been 6 months since i purchased this bike & it's been in the service centre for at least 15 days, including 1 week in TVS service centre for the rear disk brake issue, when absolutely nothing was done about the issue.

With such a long list of terrible experiences,i know for sure that expecting your TVS bike to get repaired under warranty which a customer is entitled to is next to impossible.
I tried getting service support online at "http://www.tvsmotor.in/contactus.asp".And the response i got from them was just this-"Thank You,we'll get back to you shortly".It's been 10 days & i am still waiting.
I decided to try my luck again. This time i encountered a sugar bag whose job brief appears to be-deny,deny & deny.No matter what i said he just denied it by saying everything is normal. The free play of my rear tyre is disgustingly tight. He still thinks it's normal.

He goes by the name of Surinder Babu & is a TVS company appointed Engineer for Hyderabad Circle. He is like a rock-unmoved & unaffected. Here is his mobile number-09440611584.Try contacting him if you reside in or around Hyderabad.Maybe you can make him squeal.
You can also visit my blog "http://www.tvsapachertrfi160.blogspot.com/" to get a blow by blow account of all that i have gone through in much more detail.

This what I saw earlier in the thread... took me quite a while to find it though! It does seem like the refresh is a bit different compared to the older RTR, power wise also.

my bike stalled today after bieng run to 10kms (normal riding 3000-5000rpm) but started after the single self, earlier i thought it may be cuz of some water droplet tht found its way during the washing to the tank and finally to the injector but i didnt washed my bike for the last 7 days and it happened today.....

my bike is 4000 kms old....

i think it's high time to clean those injectors......

Even my 750km old RTR FI(1st service done) has this problem. But it stalls only in the morning when it is yet to be warmed up.So could this be the problem with the injectors or something else?

after the long discussion in the thread and the people experiencing it i think it "MAY" be cuz of the injector....bt many people havin the same prob makes it yet another "CHARACTER" of the RTR FI........
