  • Exhaust notes

The good ol' RTR was first to knock the ears.

    Then came the RTR Refresh

And after that, the much awaited RTR FI.

In the current scenario. the RTR exhaust note is its signature.
The RTR refresh was something between old RTR and RTR FI (which was post-post-post- and many times postponed to launch). It was more an attempt to hold on to potential customers who were seeking RTR FI's arrival heartly. So, I think, if we change carb of refresh with Fuel injection of RTR FI, the little difference of exhaust note rumble will change too.

But, true, RTR FI's rumble is almost orgasmic and addictive.
    Yes....

    I'm still Alive...

Though I didn't compare the RTR Refresh & RTR Fi side by side, I didn't feel a difference between them. But then I can tell the difference between the RTR & RTR Refresh... err. speaking of exhause note that is!

BTW, pls check around pages 36 & 37 for more info on this topic.

Just today I compared my friend's 500km old RTR Refresh's and my 150km old RTR FI's exhaust note and they were indeed different. FI's note is much more pleasing to the ears according to me

how reliable is rtr fi i mean u own the bike so asking ur personal experience........
                  1. 20kms one way is nothing man. it should be fine for the commute.

                  2. best way to figure out is to try out an rtr (not necessarily an fi) for a decent amount of time. say 30 mins with a few stops in between. that way YOU can best decide.

                  3. i haven't had much trouble with my fi apart from the vibration issues which seem to be part of every rtr and the tappet noise, again ditto. but some others here seem to have had loads of issues so i can't say if there's something wrong with some other batches.

hmm actually i used to do the first-kick-in-the-morning routine myself hence didn't want to remove the lever. but sure, i did think about it.

theory behind this seemingly OCD behaviour is pretty simple actually. you know the castrol (or was it shell/mobil) ads where they say maximum engine damage happens at start up? well, it does and what happens is when your engine has been standing still for hours together (overnight) the oil drains off most parts and settles in the lowest places. so there is very less if any oil coating high up parts like the piston rings and cylinder bore. so a few kicks in the morning (with the ignition off) should help circulate oil around and coat the drier parts better than when it was just standing still.

dunno if this theory is BS, according to motoman (i ain't agreeing with him, just quoting) there is some kinda coating on moving parts which lubricate them and even regular friction doesn't dislodge this coating. However, lightly rubbing the part with a tissue paper (!) is enough to remove it. so this means there is little if any actual metal-to-metal contact. i think that's how i read it.

yup it is definetly recommended to Kick a few times with ignition off to circulate oil before starting if vehicle has been left for some time . i always do it on every monday cos sat/sun i dont use my bike .

                      • Hey guys just got back from the service station, I had a problem since I got my bike, less than a month old,It used to make a 'thud' sound over bad roads, So I took it over today & the mech without even riding it directly went ot work on it by removing the front suspension! He got the suspension out and removed the spring from within and did some stuff to it,hammered the rod inside etc, he did it for both left & right suspension.I was kinna surprised a new bike would need such work but after it was done, the sound was gone! Plus I feel that the front shocks are more smoother now. Was in a hurry so didn't get to ask him if it was a common problem but the way he knew what was wrong with it leads me to think it is. He was saying something about the piston getting a bit hard in the shocks. Is this a common problem? Does this mean that if the shockers are opened up, they lose their life soon or are defective?
