Okay, so, after a lot of fiddling around by the Bajaj-certified mechanic, I ignored his advice and took the plunge and push started my bike for the first time. Worked. Had a friend recharge the battery overnight and it's working fine now. I don't understand why the Bajaj guys couldn't figure it out, but because of that I learnt new stuff about my bike.

Anybody here from Chennai who has had seat modification done on his or her Avenger? Or can recommend any good bike mod mechanics in Chennai?

Hi guys
My Avenger 220 St won't start. This is the first time it's having a problem. This bike is only 9 months old and still under warranty. When I press the start switch the crank turns a couple of times and then shuts down. On repeating it doesn't even turn, just makes a "kkrrr..." sound. The odometer flashes something like "H2RE 1.2" (error) message for a brief second. I had it serviced only last month and took a couple of long rides on it after that with no issues. What could be the problem? Also, is it possible to push start my bike? The guy at the service center advised against trying it, but I didn't fully understand his reason because of language problems.

Hi All,

This is my first post on the forum.Sorry if this is a repeat question.I own Street 220 and have done about 31000 Km on my bike.
Both of my tyres are worn out and i am looking for replacements. The stock MRF tyres aren't very good and they don't grip well as they age and so my bike skids a lot.
So can anyone suggest alternatives for both front and rear tyres for avenger which provide better road grip.?

It is because 150 cc avenger only requires 1 ltr.The 220 cc which has oil cooler requires 1150 ml of oil , the extra oil is due to oil cooler (as told by service Center and local mechanic)

You are going for flat ride therefore bike will be going 80-90 kmph. Personally i would change the oil to motul as its the best i have used so far.
But since you have clocked a good amount of kilometers therefore you can judge the oil by riding the bike, if you feel performance of the bike is good then change the oil after the ride, if not then go for motul and tell the service center guys not to change oil in service.
But before going to ride do clean the chain and air filter which will improve smoothness and performance for the ride.

Bajaj Avenger street 220 long trip oil and service confusion

Okay, So I will be leaving for 700kms(around 350 one side) this weekend, I have one day in my hand.

My ODO is at 8400, I am about to reach my third periodic service. Last service was done at 5000 kms.

Now because I am leaving for long ride I am confused if I should do the oil change or come back from the trip and then take the bike for periodic service where the oil will be changed.

Till date I have been using basic Bajaj oil that they refill at service stations but this time I wanted to try good semi or fully synthetic Motul engine oil but I don't want to change it now as I will have to change the oil anyways in next service so this oil will be thrown out, I am just being frugal here I don't want to wast a good oil just after 1500kms.

One thought that came in mind was, I would just put some normal engine oil of around 300-350 and then get it changed with Motul in next service. I am worried here as last service was way back will the bike behave well till the ride or how does this duration of old engine oil will effect the engine in long run.

Which approach is best:

1. I should put in a normal engine oil for the meanwhile (cheap 300-350 ones) and then get it changed with good oil when I come back.
2. I should put in Motul right now.
3. I should not worry about all this and get back from the ride and then get the oil changed in periodic service.

NOTE: The bike is Avenger 220 Street BS4 varient.

P.S the ride I am referring is flat ride, no mountains or such.

Got the bike serviced , surprising enough didn't have to use the entire can of engine oil , only used 1liter of it. For some reason the manual on the internet had the bikes engine oil capacity listed at 1150ml while the manual I got with my bike had the engine oil capacity listed at 1000ml so the guy ended up putting the said quality.

Didn't really got a chance a ride to bike after the service, so can't really say whether the performance has improved or not. Will update on that in a few days. Bleh. !

Bought 3100, will get my bike service tomorrow
If I were to follow the bike service booklet, my next service should be @4500km ( currently at 2967kms) or 240 days since date of purchase ( it's been around 140 days )
But I read of this forum that I should ignore the booklet and service my bike every 3000kms or 3 months , whichever is earlier. So here am I .




One more thing if anyone is interested this can of motul 3100 costed me Rs 410 , the MRP written on the back is RS 460. Bought it from a local bike part shop.

That's the question i also got in my mind when i was searching for the oil but turns out the 3100 20w50 comes in 2 versions, first is of 1 litre another is of 1.15 litres. Therefore you can go with 1.15 litres. The quantity is adequate, plus you will not be needing two cans.

Sir do I need to buy 2 cans of motul 3100 ? Since the bike takes 1.5 liters of oil ? Or 1 will suffice ?

As you are in the verge of 3k you can use motul 3100 20w 50 as of now. Then you can switch to fully synthetic like 7100 or something.
