    Interesting read

Valentino Rossi's chief engineer Jeremy Burgess says the Italian's slow times in his maiden test for Ducati are no cause for panic.

The seven-time MotoGP champion was only eighth and 15th on his first two days of running with his new team at Valencia last week.

But Burgess, who was followed Rossi to Ducati after achieving great success with him at Honda and Yamaha, said the Valencia sessions were largely for acclimatisation and there was no need to top the times.

"There's no reason to panic, despite Valentino's unusual test results," Burgess told Motosprint.

"Everything was new for Valentino as it was for myself and my team."

He admitted that there was a great deal of change to adjust to at Ducati.

"We've all found ourselves in contact with a bike very different from the Japanese ones, and therefore with a different work method," Burgess said.

"The Ducati reacts differently, so this is a time to be handled with calmness by us too, just to understand things.

"After years of Japanese bikes, and seven seasons at Yamaha, for Valentino to get on the Ducati was a sort of culture shock.

"This bike is a lot more physical, the way to make it turn with the required precision is certainly the thing we must focus on at the moment."

Burgess added: "Everyone likes to be at the top of the timesheets, after every test session, but I knew Valentino would get on the track to do a different job: he wanted to ride to understand the bike, not to do record laps.

"He kept himself within wide margins, he certainly didn't ride as if it was a race weekend. For sure we've understood that to make the Ducati turn, you need a bigger effort than what Valentino was used to, physically too, and we didn't expect that."

Burgess also believes that Rossi was suffering particularly badly with his shoulder injury - which has since undergone surgery - at the test.

"No one has focused on one aspect: his shoulder," said Burgess.

"Valentino has held on in order to finish the season, and two extra days have put strain on his already suffering shoulder.

"On the second day Valentino could barely do three or four laps in a row, and without ever pushing. This has influenced his test."

I don't think this has been put here, MotoGP has an interview of the two doctors who performed the shoulder operation on Valentino...

Rossi will be ready for Sepang Test | The Official MotoGP Website

They have explained the condition of his shoulder before and after the operation quite in detail. And it somewhat proves that Rossi was quite in trouble during the last few races in the season just finished. He was really doing all what he could!

Let's hope he gets fine by the time for testing.

^^ Everybody is facing the heat after Lacey topped the charts in his "first" outing. Good for the competition I say.
As the saying: Beat your team mate first.
Problem is: Dani has two to beat

PS: Anybody read the comments on crash.net articles? Really entertaining...

Melandri talks about Rossi & Ducati.......in his words
Whether that would be successful is another matter altogether, Melandri noted. "I don't know whether he will manage to change the situation," Melandri told Motosprint, "but he has the means to do it. I'm not convinced that he will succeed, however."

rossi is everyone's fav it seems.

i am sure he'll do better than everyone else on a ducati.
if we look at ducati's factory team from 2008, melandri had a very very tough time throughout the season, nicky also had tough time for almost all the time in the 2009 season.

nicky is a drifter, a very controlled rider, so he managed to get it up somewhere, but the only master who can control a ducati until now is casey.

if you guys have seen the last race in which lorenzo's onboard HD cam clearly showed how stoner handles it, he shifts his weight around the motorcycle in midway of a turn.

so basically a bike which is having issues with front end, is going to be made BETTER by rossi.
poor espargaro, he fell in almost every race as he couldn't get a good feeling from the front.
everyone is waiting for rossi to make it better, even parmac guys, even aspar juys.

all rossi will do is maintain some respect and work for 2012 season to aim for the title (1000cc) , not 2011 (800cc).

my biggest concern is the factory suzuki team.
1 rider, that too just shifted up from 250cc last year.
                    and its a FACTORY team.
i hope it doesn't end up like kawasaki team.
they can ask Sylvian Guintoli to join, as it is he still did some tests for the motogp team when capirossi was injured...
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

Oh my! Iannone totally slipped through my mind.
Now that in a new team with Rossi's pal as manager, he will be interesting to watch. He would have been in contention right from the start this year. What was the reason his team screwed up start of the season?

                                Regarding Luthi's team, No idea
