From what i gathered, the base model ( drum ) is gonna be 50k, to compete with the discover 150, and there is going to be a disc option as well. Ill confirm pricing again.

Motoroids has given a news on 3 bikes release earlier - SZ150, FZ 250 and one scooter for this year... But still, for this topic, let's forget FZ250.

SZ150 has a 9.5 krpm red line, suggest that the maximum power can be around 7.5-8 krpm.
Seems to be more for the commuter, against Discover 150 obviously.

The yamaha either needed to launch a 125cc or an above 150cc bike. There are enough bikes in competition for the 150cc & 100cc by yamaha
When I went to get the R15 serviced this time, the owner of the showroom told me that Yamaha is planning to launch one more 150cc bike. Price is going to be around 6k less than the FZ. It will not be performance oriented machine and I think it is probably for people who want no fuss commuter with good FE and good quality.

I think the Yamaha India is planning for a top down approach (or whatever it is called). Firstly R15 to make people feel it has a premium feel, is more advanced and better quality. Then FZ which was again radically different design and better performing machine. Now this 150cc which will be sort of commuter.

Even VW used this approach in introducing its car and Toyota used this before introducing Fortuner. I hope it works for them

This is what Autocar India has regarding the SZ150:

"EXCLUSIVE! After riding on the success of its FZ 150, Yamaha is set to launch a fresh product offensive in India with as many as three offerings next month. The most significant among them will be the SZ 150, which will try to rope in customers looking for a 150cc Yamaha, but not as expensive as the sporty FZ 16.

The SZ 150, which is expected to sport a 2-valve 11bhp, 1.04kgm torque engine which is likely to be priced between Rs 55,000 to Rs 60,000 as against the FZ 16 which is priced at over Rs 70,000.

Our source adds that the bike will have alloy wheels and a longer wheelbase. Giving company to the SZ 150 will be the YBR 125 – a commuter segment bike that will compete with the likes of Hero Honda’s Super Splendor and Bajaj’s Discover.

Yamaha currently has a YBR 110. It may get replaced with the new one, if there isn’t much of a price difference between the two. Along with the new bikes, Yamaha will also add a refreshed version of the Fazer in a launch event scheduled for August 4, 2010.

Company officials could not be reached, while its PR agency declined to comment on the news."

A practical bike, nothing special about it though standard stuff... the only thing going for this model is the yamaha name... I would have preferred a mid range betn the high end n the basic, a 180cc with all the frills of the P220. with agressive pricing of 65 to 70

Hmm this bike desperately needs 2 things

                        1- mono shock
                        2- Front Disc brake
