Never.......I mentioned that because these are the companies which focuses on delivering high end products first and down stream later.

So while down streaming the 600-700cc zone won't be left untouched for sure.

If you consider 250cc to be in that league, then Honda is not behind either. They have CBR1000RR, CB1000, VFR1200 and CBR250R

tax on imported and ckd bikes too much!

sports bikes are in inception stage in India and they are very expensive compared to how they are priced in USA and UK. Blame the Indian govt for this, not the manufacturers. there is 100% tax on imported(CBU) bikes and almost 75% tax on assembled kits(CKD). No indian manufacturer makes performance sports bikes but still govt is so intent on protecting their business even though there is no threat to Indian bike manufacturers from the foreign companies. Most of our bikes cost below 1 lakhs rupees and no Indian who is conscious of mileage will buy a sports bike for 5 lakhs. By imposing ridiculous taxes on imported bikes, Indian govt is just killing the growth of sports bike industry in India. The only way foreign manufacturers can avoid the tax is to set up shop and start production in India instead of just assembling as i cannot see much difference in price between the CKD and CBU units. this is good in a way as it will generate more employment in India but there is none of the big names like honda, kawasaki, ducati etc have production plants in India for sports bikes. And it will be really long time before they can start manufacturing here from scratch including the engine.
i was horrified and disheartened to know that the Hyosung gt650r costs 2.75 lakhs in USA where as in India its been launched for 4.75 lakhs! there is a 2 lakhs price difference even though its being assembled as CKD in India. Also harley davidson iron 883 costs 3.6 lakhs in USA where as here we have to shell out 6.5 lakhs which is a 3 lakhs price difference. Ducati monster 796 costs 5 lakh rupees in UK and here it is 9 lakhs. Likewise ninja 650r costs 3.2 lakhs abroad and it will definitely cost at least 5.5 lakhs here. Certainly there will be lot more buyers of these performance bikes if the tax is chopped down. At these prices even though there are lot of bike enthusiasts in India, only rich people can afford them
