My grouse is that though XC is more off road oriented, but in ideal conditions, it is 95% road 5% offroad for majority of the riders. And I would tend to think a 800 is not exactly the right type type of bike one would take serious mud plogging anyway.

The XC's seat height of 845 makes it useless for in city riding - my toes barely touch the road when seated on the XC. And in Indian cities, punctures are common - so XC being tube type is not exactly a boon. Compare that to Tiger 800's 810 mm seat height and tube type tyres.

Based off my limited knowledge, I think the standard Tiger 800 is the best dual sport suited for India - roads or no roads.

They don't enter new markets expecting to be porfitable for the first couple of years anyway.
Also, committing to a CKD operation from the beginning indicates their intention of sticking it out here.

I agree that they will have to price it well and build the brand here.

If they are looking at CKD, then definitely they would have plans for exporting some of the bikes assembled in India. BTW, as a automobile manufacturing hub, India does hold a prominent place in the world map and most manufacturers trust India unlike china where copyright laws etc are not respected too much and you will find 10 cheap duplicate copies of the Triumph as soon as they start production there!

If it is only a dealership arrangement, I hope Triumph plan things properly, if not Ducati is a glaring example of how things can drastically go wrong in India

Great news but I am slightly confused here.

Since, Street Triple & Daytona675 are both under 800 cc category so can they be brought to India as CKD units without collaboration?

Also Ashish Joshi said "Our strategy for the Indian market will be well phased out. The first part

Oh boy ! Oh Boy ! Oh Boy!

It seems Rocket III is last in the line which means the table has turned and now Triumph launches Bonneville and then Speed and Street triple .

With all the saving on tax etc etc , guess Auto Expo is something to wait for for more concrete info as to their plant being operational etc etc as in when will the first CKD will be rolled out on Indian roads... Great news !

Guys, Triumph ain't far. Any day more news about Indian foray might come from them.
As for now, I have an update about Triumph's PR agent. Read on...

The iconic British motorcycle brand is all set to enter the Indian market. The launch date of their motorcycles is nearing now and this is evident by the recent development - Triumph has now appointed Eulogy! as their official PR agency for all the activities in the Indian market. This also includes the development and handling of strategic communications for their entry into the Indian market.

Eulogy! India were chosen following on from a competitive pitch where a number of leading agencies from across India were short- listed. In addition to strategising and generating coverage , Eulogy! India will also be responsible for building the brand preference within the digital space. Ashish Joshi , Managing Director (India) , Triumph Motorcycles says , ‘India is the second largest two-wheeler market in the world and we see it as the next step in our global business model. It was thus imperative for us to have the right associates on-board. During the entire pitch process , we were very impressed with Eulogy’s approach , strategic thinking , innovative ideas and overall commitment to the brand. We look forward to a rewarding association with them.’

Rohan Srinivasan, Director, Eulogy! India says, ‘Triumph Motorcycles is an iconic brand and I am delighted that they have chosen us as their PR partners. From the company’s rich heritage to exceptional design combined with outstanding engineering – the brand has provided a true riding experience to millions across the globe. With this in mind , our objective from the outset will be to establish Triumph as a leading brand in the market whilst, also establishing brand recall amongst target consumers.’
