    • As for the ABS, i work for an Indian automotive company and had a small discussion over phone with a component development guy for ABS at our company.......he was of the opinion that ABS is not as important as for cars when it comes to bikes as its effectiveness is greatly depended upon the bike's position during actual braking conditions and that this was one of the reasons that most supersports are sold with an ABS as well as non ABS version.......again its something from a normal engineer guy not some clearly defined fact......

If its not going to guarantee that, do you think people would even bother to shell out loads of money for that? The no. of vehicles on the roads are increasing by the day and the majority of the people driving here in our country seem to have no driving etiquette and road discipline, not to mention the bad condition of our roads. In a country like India, when you are going to get a high performance machine, its best to get one that has an ABS. Ofcourse your own braking skill will help you in a lot of situations, but it won't equate to an ABS equipped machine. Having a good braking skill along with the ABS will only help you further in panic situations.
While what you say is true at large, people need better mannerism and road etiquette than anything else at the moment. I for starters believe that ABS should be made mandatory for all vehicles from 200 CC and above.

But that won't attract people who would want to tour/ go out on the highways excessively.
Ideally, I hate follow up posts for clarity as the forum becomes more of a debate oriented place. However for the sake of clarity to all who might have misconstrued my post, please read the post again. I am talking of a value proposition. the post that I was referring to mentioned the CBR's low torque + ABS + city commuting advantage over the Ninja.
I for one believe that the Duke is more of a city tool than the CBR and going in the same vein, I feel that the Duke siblings (200 + 390 when introduced with ABS) will be a better value proposition than the CBR for a specific audience. I have not compared the Duke with the Ninja cause they are incomparable like apples and oranges.

All said, you are entitled to you own perception on positioning of a product.
