  • Speculation: 500cc Bike from Honda

Honda Thailand is prepping a 500-700cc variant of two bikes (faired and naked) sharing the same basic design.

Some spyshots have emerged, but details are scarce as of now.

    Source:

Although the source mentions 500-700cc engine size, from the size of the front disc-brake as well the tyre size of the supposed bike, it seems suitable to have engine size of 250-300cc!

But this could very well be Honda's answer to the fresh assault of bikes from Kawasaki!

Exactly. Bike looks more like a 300-350. and the fairing looks inspired from CBR100RR

Well it could be anything between 300cc to 500cc, it's anybody's guess right now. But it seems that the actual reveal may not be more than couple of months away, both motorcycles look pretty much finished. But honestly, it's great to see that 300cc - 500cc class is being revived by manufacturers.

Almost all of the Hondas are built with a high focus on agility and handling comfort. A 500 looking like a 250 isn't surprising.

The grab rails and the rear view mirrors suggest that it could be based on the current CBR250R platform.

The full faired model seems too slim to accomodate a parallel twin.. could it be a V-twin or maybe it's still a single cylinder?
Maybe it could be the upgrade of the CBR250R along with a naked version of it as well.

New license norms in western countries will open a new market. But the new type of bikes are really uninspiring. Two cylinder engine with dull styling. A disappointing outlook. Only Kawasaki has better styling.
As far as these Hondas are concerned, they might be 300-400 class. The mirror and fairing proportion shows this.

Could this be the CBR 400R that was being spied by the Japanese Magazine (Young Japan or something?) one-two years back?
Although, this bike might have been re-engineered to 500cc in the meantime.

I hope it is a 500, although the size and disc brake show a different side to the story.
But then, it could be a low rev Sports Tourer, making just say 40-45 bhp at a lowly 7 krpm or so.

We know Honda's policies. They'd willingly compromise on the excitement factor than practicality. So, will they go the Sports tourer way with this CBR? Let's see...

This will make a very good 250cc and very boring 500cc.

                              its inline 2.

Front lite look similer to CBR 600rr, while the rest of the looks is belongs to CBR 250.
