    Hi,

Recently i purchased Duke 200 on Feb 15th. The showroom manager in chennai conveyed me

    a) provisions has been made for my model to fix ABS, so that i can add the facility when it comes

with respect to this statement, he has shown

    a) an extra power socket under the pillion seat (may for ECU) not sure
    b) two clamps to route the cables

approximate price for add-on should be < 30k, i guess. this is just an assumption.

I am not sure about this. We have to wait and see.
    Regards,
    Deva.

I am not sure how the web page retrieves the information when we choose the country. Seeing the url it sounds as if the specification is for EU.

We have to wait and watch.

Nice catch...BTW domain is still ktm.com/in/naked-bike/200-duke-eu/...

might signify the EU spec model coming to INdia?

anyways better late than never, so this ABS can be switched-off or it will be permanently on. and is there an option to purchase a non-ABS duke200 or all the bikes will be ABS only.
I just learnt from BTM SVC guy that all Dukes are ABS ready in India. If u want u can fit it any time.

my point was that, since there were already bikes in 200-250 CC category and also 1 Lakh to 2 Lakh category with optional ABS, it would not have been too much unwise to launch it with an option of ABS in 2011 itself. so if somebody purchased a Duke200 and wanted an ABS also. it was just not an option earlier.

                  simple point.
There are two kind of buyers ones who test the waters before going in and then there are the crazy ones(in the good way) who are willing to take the chance that a new brand may not do so well. Besides, there is bound to be an update sooner or later. Everyone knows their model of whatever they own will get old one day. I think it's a great initiative because roads like India do require an ABS. Besides, I read a few posts above that the ABS can be fit onto the old versions as well.

Personally though, I am not a very big fan of the switchable version because a person, while panic breaking, won't see whether he has the ABS on or not. He'll just go for the brakes.

That said, the switching has the advantage that one can easily practice breaking the proper way IMHO.

Its a welcome move by KTM to equip their bike with ABS....They should price it properly so that they can sell ABS model in large Numbers..

Any idea if it would be as expensive as Honda's ABS unit (~30K)? I guess stand-alone ABS units will start shipping 4-5 months after the launch of the 2013 D200?

Somehow....not a big fan of the "switchable" ABS thing. As jhonmathews quoted...what's the point of having ABS if you switch it off and forget to turn it on the next time?

The on-off switch is primarily if you're in conditions like gravel or if you want to do some stunt riding. It's not for routine on-off switching. That's what KTM would suggest atleast. No lock = nearly impossible to do stoppies.

I got my duke about 3 days now...i asked the sales rep regarding the ABS version, however it was not available (obviously), neither he knew about any ABS variant being out for the D200 in the near future..even though it might be mentioned on some of the motorcycle related sites..even if there is a D200 with ABS..its definetely not coming down to India very soon..I mean the official KTM site does not say anything..but i sure hope it can be implemented/fixed on the current models.
