In Vasant Kunj KTM showroom the test ride bike has not arrived yet, wondering how late the deliveries of the first lot would be?

You expect to have new frame so that the wider exhaust pipe and larger engine fits in the frame or you expect to have a small alteration in shape (not dent) so that the tried and tested frame remains the same?

As mentioned by ktm a small throttle limiter is fitted by the dealers for A2 licence compliance

woah! looks like jobless anonymous, except why didn't I notice this before.

So the review got delayed and the Nikasil( or some such) coated cylinders fell apart. Though i agree there might be some issue which the company might be trying to sort, but Alan Cathcart ( i think it was him only) has already done a review of the 390 in Austria. Ok, maybe not review, just an initial impression. So it is not that no impression of the bike exists.

And one thing that bothers me is that why is no one commenting on why is this site holding on the review and under whose request or pressure? If and only if this is delayed due to some problems, it will be honest on the site's part to let us know of the problem. It is for us to then judge whether the problem is rectified when we go for a test ride or not. Hopefully the will let us know what the issue for keeping the review under wraps was. I hope it is just the strike or some small teething problems. But till the time sites start putting it out, it is fun to read about half a less bhp, exposed wires and hydraulic clutches.


P.S: There are new licensing norms in Britain/ Europe now. The 390, last i read, was out of reach of early learners ( A2 as far as i remember) because its power to weight ratio was a bit high compared to what was allowed. European market is, for now, a big one for KTM, they might be attempting to reduce power or some such thingmajig to slot it in that licensing group. Just a thought, not sure about it.

Personally I don't have any issues with cable clutches, but hydraulics are way more easy on fingers.

+1 for this, Even Bajaj Auto Finance charges about 4% Processing fee over loan Amount,

I am taking loan from Canera Bank..... Processing fee is 0.01 or upto Rs. 250/- (whichever is less)

I will save over Rs. 8000/- for choosing this, + good relationship in bank, + Good Bank record for future super bike loan.

The below quote should answer your question. The point is, they did NOT figure out that they have to alter the exhaust pipe when they were fitting the engine into the frame. It was a no brainer that the pipe has to be desinged from the very beginneing that way to fit into the frame. Just to clear the air, it's not a dent. It's by design. No one says that an exhaust has to be perfectly round else there is a quality issue!

Nope, it is not the same. The 390's silencer pipe is bigger in diameter.

As for the clutch cable query, here is a pic -



It is NOT hydraulic.

Need to wait five more days for the test ride. That is what BTM KTM told me. No idea why. They already have the bike with them.

Beginning to lose interest now :-(

Maybe the wire is linked to a hydraulic arm? No?

Altering the standard design to make a new standard design does not equal to QC issue. :|

Good God! It's by design, it doesn't have a dent because they found it out when they were fitting it together.. it is by design from the very first stage of planning. No question of lower quality

In the spec sheet mentioned on KTM site it says that the clutch is hydraulically operated, but as mentioned in a previous post the I could see the cable for clutch. Can anyone confirm if it has cable wire clutch or not.

Dent on the Silencer to fit it in the frame. lol... This brings a big Question for the Quality Check in India by KTM.

Had a talk with the KTM guy at CP, he informed me that the deliveries would only start by late August at best. His speculation is that the production at the Chakan plant is affected by the strike. Maybe thats why the reviews have been put on hold, so that it would be revealed closer to the delivery dates.
