re: KTM Duke 390 Launched in India at Rs 1.8 Lakhs: xBhp News
Took a test ride yesterday.
1)Bike feels light and nimble. I rode to KTM vashi on my 200 and absolutely no difference felt in terms of manoeuvrablity whatsoever.
2)I could not hit the palm beach road, so the test ride was limited to the vashi-sanpada road. The 2nd gear goes happily till 60.
3)The chassis is the same. The engine casing protrudes a bit more out on the sides of the trellis than the 200, which means the engine is a lot bigger and occupies much more space inside the frame. It also means it requires a dent in the exhaust routing pipe so that the exhaust pipe doesn't touch the frame. I initially thought that it might be a defect .The showroom guy told me all 390s will have this
It was surely an eyesore. Not sure if others have noted this or not.
4)The test rides would all be given with abs on !!(obviously)
The gist : I could not take the bike to triple digits to experience the added power. But the pickup from standstill was a bit underwhelming considering the specs. I was bracing myself for a violent launch when I let go of the clutch. But it was not to be. In fact the 1st lot 200s were a bit quicker(at least they felt so) off the line.
Till 70-80 it's not much different than the 200 surely. Probably it'll come to life in the higher rpms
May be it's more of a Ninja than a duke
The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Few other experiences from test rides in the other D390 thread are pretty much in line with your experience.
Meh, I find my D390 excitement quite deflated...
Sounds like it's able to express its power only in higher speeds. Due to taller gearing you actually HAVE TO go fast in order to ride it in higher rpms. And for that you need both - a good road and no traffic...

To answer that, while D200 feels wild D390 feels domesticated.

Nobody doubts that Prince. As it is a bigger and powerful engine, it will obviously accelerate faster and reach higher top speed. However, the way it does that isn't to my taste. I had personally expected D200 like traits to be carried forward.Originally posted by princesirohi View Postbut that video shows o-100 in under 5/6 secs.... ??
It feels neutered compared to a Duke 200.

i was thinking since the first news of a taller gearing of the bike came in to change the sprocket size.
you think this could help?

With all the ride experiences floating, I feel that a D200 lover/fan will be disappointed in the way D390 behaves. A possible downturn of the so-called cannibalism??
For first-timers (who never touched a Duke) like me, I am hopeful
Thanks reviewers; in both the active D390 threads!! Rest assured, your comparative pointers sure helps.BENEATH THE REMAINS.........

I've never ridden the D200...i'm excited abt D390 doin 0 to 100 in 5sec...since u guys dnt find D390 as wild as the 200, just curious, how much time does the D200 takes to reach 100?Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostNobody doubts that Prince. That's like saying nicely it's powerless at low end...Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostTo answer that, while D200 feels wild D390 feels domesticated.
Exactly. That's what I was expecting, just a stronger version of D200 with pretty much same character.Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostNobody doubts that Prince. I mean, what's the point in releasing a naked street bike that has its power delivery tuned the same way as faired racing bikes, weak in lows, strong in highs?
I want my lows and mids, lol! It's a street bike! If I wanted a Ninja I would had gone for Ninja...
I'm sure D390's "calmer" ride (compared to D200) will suit many people, but I think many of those who love D200's character won't find D390 appealing enough to upgrade to. D200's character offers a great fun every time I ride it, and I'm not sure D390 will give that.
I thought of that too straight away! But not sure, if the power delivery is tuned that way then sprocket will help only a little. What will benefit more is a good ECU tune to boost lows and mids. Kiirus and Race Dynamics, are you listening?Originally posted by glider99 View Posti was thinking since the first news of a taller gearing of the bike came in to change the sprocket size.

Even for D200 they managed to make the lows only little stronger, but mid rpms were much stronger, at least in Race Dynamics' ECU map for D200.

I'm not even test riding it, just booked it by reading the reviews. My test ride wud be on the way back hme wid the bike...
I'm buying it solely because of the price factor and the brand. I always thought i'll have to shell out more than 4lakhs for this kind of performance, especially for a well known brand like this. Hope it lives up to it's hype...
