It seems both MotoBeam and Motoroids got the same test bike (someone said from KTM Vashi) as both notice same niggles. The starter issue I guess was faced by someone here too- just frustrating to know that such a basic element too can be messed by Bajaj's manufacturing

I rode the same bike last week on Sunday. It started at the first start. I was used to a heavier clutch so rode it without stalling at all. Funny bit is the next guy in the queue to test ride it (u read it right 'queue'!) Couldn't get used to the heavy clutch and the bike just wouldn't start as he kept stalling it. He stalled it 7 times in a row before he finally took off. The showroom guy said almost everyone does this and more than 50 ppl had messed with it in last 2 days. So probably the bike is screwed by desperate ppl with zero knowledge coming to have fun on the bike....

Wiring is visible under the tank... and they sealed the wires using TAPE!

Are you F*****g Kidding me?
It is KTM brand not any local wala. Show some quality yaar.

Hey I took the test ride last Sunday too at Vashi. When were you there ? btw I was off the first time, as I said virtually the same bike ergonomically and 'feel wise'. THe showroom guys know me there so no hassles or educating lectures(like I got last time for the 200 test ride : Sir bohot powerful hai gir jaayegi and blah blah).
Btw one thing I must say. My 200 duke test ride was a very underwhelming experience. THey only let me ride for a few 100 meters on the sanpada road and later when I requested that I should be let to ride with my girlfriend riding pillion so as to gauge her response too, since she'd be pillion most of the times, I was denied. Ultimately, after lot of cajoling they finally let me but only inside the Vashi Tech Park building compound(there showrrom is located in that building). This was frustrating since I knew I'd not be riding with her inside by society building but this is what it was !!
Compared to that,hold your breath, Pratik Honda was way more accommodating when I went there for the CBR 250R test ride. He let me ride pillion with her. I took the bike to the palm beach road even having a full satiating blast there. Now this would be contrasting to what most people say, but at the end of the test ride I was might impressed with the Honda guys. Besides the machine did not disappoint me either. I was this close to buying the tricolor ABS.
But as always, my girlfriend opined contrary to the popular thinking, what flies in the face of reason and said the duke pillion seat is more comfortable to the CBR's

I was not dissatisfied with the duke for sure, but I liked the CBR better(yes I was a fairing loving stupid wannabie once

).
Though I have had my share of niggles with the duke but I am happy to have gone for it.
Btw I see that you have a CBR

Ya bro I was there at 3pm ish. I am glad you didn't buy a cbr and bought a duke. I had bought mine way back in 2011, rode it for 27000kms. Had tons of bad read nightmarish experiences with quality of the bike... frequent visits to the service center to the extent that the VP and owner became friends with me and accommodated me without appointments. The tyres are stupid on it, brakes on non abs lack bite...abs pads are too expensive. ..Engine was also changed with internals. I cannot truly type everything from my phone here for the sake of sanity of my thumbs.... call me on 9819119767 n I'll tell ya! I sold the baby blade back in march n booked tge 390 Duke on 17 th April at the south mumbai showroom. I just came for a test ride.... a chunk of my time these days is well spent harassing my dealer for delivery

I'll just comment on Duke's rear seat.
In every single review of Duke 200 and 390 I've read the rear seat is mentioned as really bad, almost as something nobody wouldn't want to sit on. But EVERY single pillion I had on my D200 so far has commented how comfortable the seat was! Yes, the seat is smaller (in fact, the distance between a rider and a pillion is smaller) but apart from that I've heard nothing but very positive comments. And that's even without me asking about the seat comfort...
Duke's seat is hard but the rear suspension is actually quite soft, and that's what makes the ride easier for pillion.

[MENTION=18379]splus[/MENTION]- you know what? Many months back I had gone to bug the KTM East guys in Mumbai about the N300 & D390. I was telling the Manager Mr. Naicker that though the 390 will be great VFM its too small for me and is a single seater :P
To which he replied that the pillion seat is small but comfortable. I wanted to take off my shoe an hurl it at him but was trying too hard to control not bursting out! So just smirked n ignored him.
Now i guess he wasn't such a moron after all! :P

Nope. Although every dealer will say that for every bike, but it is surprisingly comfy.
That being said, due to sudden acceleration and rear grips being more to the side of the pillion instead of behind - the pillion almost HAS TO hold onto a rider.
All in all, as [MENTION=56299]dishayu[/MENTION] mentioned, Duke's rear seat was probably designed with increased "coziness" in mind.

I, as a rider, am not complaining.

Seat of 200 in stock form is good for slim to normally built persons.I had changed it to a softer wider version for a while, and my pillion was like, this hurts after some time, get the stock seat back.Glad that seat was borrowed from a friend just for a ride.Also, speaking of backrests, my friend found this yesterday.Its a thunderbird backrest, and imo, by far what i have seen, this looks good and nicely executed.

Reading all the posts about the pillion seat brought a big smile on my face

. It sure will be fun with girl friend /wife, that is it. Rest everyone will curse the lack of space. Anyway from when I sat on the Duke 200, it is fine. Just that when the bike takes off, pillion has to hold the rider. It was scary the first time though, felt I was going to fall off. Now that I think of it, what must be state of the poor KTM guy who has to sit day in and day out behind a prospective customer. He can't sit too close. Must be flying half the time

The seat is way Better than the one that we get on Classic 500. The rear seat with excessively soft foam is a curse for anything more than 15-20 km ride. Hard seats are better prospect as they provide good support to the sit bones.

Though 390 would have been better with seat another 5" long. Or an optional backrest will do the trick for the flying pillions

I think the reviews which deplore the duke rear seat do not ever do a test ride with a girlfriend riding pillion. They are either done without a pillion and the reviewer just assumes that since the seat is small, it ought to be uncomfortable or they are done with a male riding pillion.
Since a male friend won't be too keen on leaning onto or sit too close holding the rider. he normally prefers the grab rails.
Whereas the gf/wife sits with her arms across the rider's torso, safely and comfortable ensconced in that small seat with barely any gap between her and her man in the shining armour

In stop and go traffic where brakes are applied frequently, the pillion tends to fall forward, where the rear seat is a bit raised as compared to the rider's, which is the case with both CBR and duke. But in duke since there would hardly be any gap between the pillion and rider, the pillion doesn't keep on sliding forward. She just rests against the back of the rider. Whereas in case of CBR, the pillion would keep on falling forward which may have lead to a 'flying-in-the-face-of-reason' conclusion from my girl.

The 390 Duke will only be available with orange wheels in India, there are no future plans of getting the 390 Duke with black wheels.

Though you always can customize the colour of your 390 Duke wheels from after market paint jobs.

in my opinion, orange wheels make the bike look more funky and eye catching.. and the whole color scheme has been done in such a way that the orange wheel compliment the overall bike..

and it also helps in distinguishing the D390 from D200

and yea, its a personal choice.. you can color them black anytime..
