So, if they need a 300cc engine, they'll either have to work on existing engine or get a new one. If they can make a 300cc reliable engine in the meantime or get one from KTM stables, go ahead is what I would say.
A re-bored bike (for a bigger engine) like Ninja 300 has a better engine to carry almost the same amount of weight, and can be relaxed, and is better in most ways as long as its reliable enough. If KTM have a ready 250 engine to be rebored to 300, and enough testing time, then they should do it.

Reg. making the 373cc a 300cc, I don't get good feelings from this thought itself. I remember how Ninja 650R was changed only engine-wise, to make it a Ninja 400R, just to get a measly 40~ bhp bike weighing 203 kgs, a non rev-happy engine & the same old parts & looks. And that too with the same manufacturing & maintenance cost (just 14% cheaper price) as a quite bigger 650R.

So, what did Kawasaki achieve by "filling this segment" of 400cc? Just license legality for some markets? Would we like a 400R in India at price of a 650R?
My humble belief is that they should just make a good bike, and not just fill segments.

BTW all this is just a discussion... Who knows what Bajaj have up their sleeve?
This is the advantage of having a mature R&D.. and who said Bajaj has to look for KTM for a new engine? As long as Mr. Bajaj feels there is a gap that can be plugged, he can get products / models to bridge it.

I would absolutely love it if a 300NS (naked) with the engine, chassis and styling derived from the new Big Pulsar platform makes it.

infact, i wont mind if Mr. Baja comes with a 300CC Cruiser with sweet exhaust sound(which looks hile unlikely though). that will post a challenge to RE, Hyosung GV250 and other cruisers in India...

There is no law in the world which Limits or Defines any so called "Classes".

I was not searching for one in the constitution either.

I was not asking whether a rule exists or not Chill down bro. If Bajaj wanna make one, I have nothing to say on that.

My question was: What is that typical advantage a 300cc bike brings over 375?

Personally, I feels that a 400 after 250 is ok and there need not be anything in between. Its my thought. If somebody have a valid reason for having one, it helps me to improve my knowledge.
        I knows very less.

I was definitely not researching on segment laws or its existence. So that enlightment doesn't help much.

^^ I agree with you. 250cc is global standard I guess. Bajaj trying to create new segment for Indians ?

            Cruiser? Very unlikely.

Also the Royal Enfield's are not cruisers. Certainly not the Bullet and Classics.. and the Thunderbird's are pseudo cruisers.

You sounded like you did. What's wrong with "Indians inventing/expecting/liking new classes"..?? Is there some RULE that one has to stick to?

            Why a 300 cc?

            1. Fuel efficiency (definitely more than the 375),

            2. Power / Torque (definitely more than the 200),

            3. Pricing : 1.25-1.30 Lakhs on Road (With the 390 Duke at 2 lakhs on road, I expect the Pulsar 375 to be priced at 1.5 on road. Which means that the "hypothetical" 300 could be priced in between the 200 (1 lakh) and the 375. i.e at a 1.25 Lakh).

            4. What's wrong with someone looking for an option between the 200 and the 375, not only in terms of pricing but also in engine cc, power, torque?

            5. A 300 gives a 50 cc advantage over the CBR250R

            6. Why get stuck mentally at 250? Even Kawasaki has moved on to 300 (Ninja 300)

              3. its unlikely that Bajaj will price a fully faired P375 at 1.5, however there is a possibility if they exclude ABS (they can do it with ABS as well - God Bless Mr. Bajaj if he does that :P)

so a naked P300 can be proced at 1.3 and a faired P300 at 1.4

              4. i am definitely one of those

but dont you think it will take Bajaj/ KTM a while to develop a new engine, test and launch it? or can they upgrade D200 or downgrade D375s engine?

atleast it looks like P375 is on cards in next 2 months. hope Mr. Bajaj doesnt compromise on safety and include Metzs and ABS on P375

@Samarth 619 you might be right about a 200SS as previously there was lots of talks going after the 200NS was launched that a faired version of 200NS will be made next year (i.e., 2013). . . Let's just not forget this and also may be we will be getting a 180cc pulsar with a fairing as the 180 looks kinda outdated after so many years and definitely needs a refreshment and this refreshment can be brought by Bajaj by making it in the same specs of NS with changes in the engine. . . The other pulsar is definitely as we all know is the Pulsar 375 which is the most awaited bike now as far as I know. . . Let's just hope that we get these bikes soon and for Bajaj, "please don't follow your same old style, same looks, same body, same colours with different cc's cos we will be bored with it. . .". . . @hypheni Bajaj should work very very hard to do that. . . and for the tires, let's up they have MRF on them not Eurogrip for both the faired bikes. . . BTW what do you think guys, will these two be fi or carb. . ?

                Cheers!!!

Hero Honda Splendor+ 2015 - present (temporary ride)
                Bajaj Pulsar AS200 - 16th September 2015 - present ride

considering market situation 375 will be the 1st one to hit market anytime from jan to feb and i hope bajaj won't compromise on quality in order to control the price, and i am sure people won't mind paying nearly 2 to 2.20 for 375 cc sports bike loaded with good features and equipped with quality stuffs

Very interesting news. I think it will be the 180cc and the 375cc. The smaller will take care of the Yamaha YZF R15 and the big one should take care of CBR.
Bajaj are playing the cc game. More cc in less price than competition.

Well, 180cc faired doesn't make sense. The P220 is enough to compete with the CBR150 and YZF R15. And as far as "Super sports" is concerned, the P375 seems very confident about its arrival in the market.

Only owners of 200NS know it can. Infact, including NS what the new Pulsars will offer customers is the same (if not better) durability at a cheaper cost.

Have ridden the 135LS, it was an improvement over the older generation pulsars but not impressive enough. You don't feel confident to through it into the corners. (where handling matters the most)
For 200NS, haven't ridden it but where ever I've read the reviews its the best handling pulsar not the best handling bike.

And please read the comment carefully, I said track focused handling, if they are planning super sports.

I dont think any of these models(375/200SS) will be track focused on handling. So if you are expecting a track oriented bike, you may be disappointed.

as an existing owner of P200NS, the switchgear quality is pathetic.
