re: Bajaj Pulsar's 2 Super Sport motorcycles: xBhp News

Guys today i had gone to the bajaj showroom in our city (Sitaram Bajaj Thrissur) to get details regarding pulsar 135 ls as my brother is thinking of getting one and replace our old trusty war horse caliber 115 but i was shocked to see and hear their response They informed me that they hadn't got any dispatch of p135 stock since 2011 and the lady i met there wasnt even aware of 2012-2013 speedlines model. They said they had stopped taking dispatches as many units were prone to engine complaints and other issues and the demand is too low for it and they will only bring in stock according to order only They also told me that demand was more for pulsar 150/180 and even tried to put it on me.Similar kind of experience happened to my brother at cochin based showroom when he had tried to enquire about the p135 and he was also told that dispatch numbers were also too low and had only 3-4 pulsar 135ls only.He was asked to take the 150 /180 instead as well as the newly launched d125t and d125st instead So questions that are in my mind are
1.why do the say that p135 is not in stock and only comes on special order and why do they say it had many problems when it is still far better in every respect when compared to p150/180 ?
2.why are they pushing most of the customers into buying the old pulsar twins like that of stock clearance sale and does this mean the p135 could hit the axe under a maximum period of 1-2 years ?

What i could guess is that, it is a stock clearance sale as if you ask me. something big is coming as replacement for the aging twins and that i guess could explain why the sales persons where promoting more pulsar 150s and 180s as they could have been asked to clear of the old gen twins to pave way for the new ones.As for pulsar 135, i think it'll soon be phased off. Rajiv bajaj had clearly indicated that he'll concentrate on the 2 brand strategy of discovers for the commuter segment and pulsar for the sports segment. Current Pulsar 135, 150 and 180 are more like glorified sports commuters and can't be badged as sports bikes as such. And i think they will take these three birds down with 2 stones may be. The first stone being a revamped discover 150 in the lines of discover st which will take duties from the current p135 as well as 150 and will cater to those looking for practical yet sporty power commuters which the pulsar 135 and the commuter side of p150 performed for with mileage, style and practicality and ride comfort getting more emphasis catering to city runs and occasional highway runs as well.

As for the p180's replacement, a liquid cooled sub 200 pulsar, something in the line of a 160 Ns or faired version will come and do both of their jobs thereby being the best of both worlds giving bajaj a good contender for 150 sports segment which can deliver almost the fuel efficiency of p150 along with even better performance and dynamics than the current set of 150 to 180 cc machines and could come in under 80k price range .

Going slightly OT, I still believe that people are confused between "handling" and "agility". Few pages back, someone said R15 is better handler than N250R. Won't comment on that as I haven't ridden the 250R, but I think people do confuse agility as handling.

Agility is how fast it steers or responds to counter steering. Its mostly dependant on wheelbase, rake and trail of the bike.

Handling is how obedient the bike is. How much it remains under your control at high, or any speeds.
If its under your control, it will change lanes & directions well, it won't dictate your riding path, remain calm and composed mostly even while leaning and it will generally inspire confidence to push it harder and harder, be it track or road.

I myself ride a Pulsar. Bad handler? Yes! I just can't find the confidence to steer even a little bit after 110 kmph. It gets "Twitchy", and behaves as if a little steer will throw me on the road. Its not a bad chassis. Its just in a commuter oriented setup. Yes, it is still very agile within the city, noticeably more than Karizma. And it can't lean well too, same twitchyness shows. And the rake trail ain't too favorable either.

Although: I can't help but admit that riding an old rusted bike which has power but doesn't handle well. It has its own charm & appeal. Not every man can steer it above 110 kmph. I can, maybe a little bit.
On the other hand, the R15's are such sweet handlers that you might get a confident knee-down on your first try, that too on a public flyover...

Coming to the topic, for the newer Pulsars, I would expect the right balance of good agility and good handling, somewhat like the Duke 200, and more like Apache RTR 180...
But for us, there's practically no need to be "Track level crazy" about it. Even if Bajaj makes it anything like Pulsar 200 NS, then we shouldn't fear at all.
very true, handling is very important, ...specially with faster bikes.

and yes i still remember that feeling when you take a fast long sweeping turn at speeds around 100 KMPH, where you have to hold the bike in a lean for a significant amount of time, the twitchy chassis can be clearly felt.

but i personally feel that for the upcoming pulsar the ride should be improved somewhat as compared to NS and that hard rear suspension presents its own problems also in terms of handling.

yes the bike looks too small but in some old pulsar 200 ns spyshots also made the bike look lean and small...so that part can't be confirmed as of now...it could be because of the camera and that sudden shot to atleast get the glimpse if not clear. But as i mentioned earlier it could be a p160 and i think they will retain p150 and eventually in course of time withdraw the p150 there by giving space to brand discover which can then take the sports commuter position that the p150 is and was enjoying. P160 will take duties of 150 and 180 giving 200 ns enough space to maintain its own individuality there by not getting diluted. the proportions of the bike is ideal to spawn the 160 version. iam posting the rendering that bs motoring made at the time of 200 ns spyshot i think the sketch was actually of this sub 200 pulsar

PS. This just my thought,if iam wrong, it could even be a pulsar 135 / 150 successor. possibilities are plenty for speculations.
Kuldeep Singh, i'll post my rendering tomorrow which is the fully finished work in MS.Paint.

It could be a pulsar 180 as well, that's what is more rumored nowadays, a 180NS. . .

Here is my final version of the render although, it is still a bit unfinished as i am unable to draw the disc brakes and the brake lines due to fear of spoiling the sketch as ms.paint seem to be unsuitable for drawing those in a good perfect manner. And sorry admins if i am posting similar content again and again as i had actually posted an unfinished version of the work in the p375 scoop thread earlier.

Now some outsiders who sees this pic, is gonna take this and post it again saying this is the final renderings of the Pulsar 375, spied pic . . . BTW neat and good drawing you have done there and shouldn't the front fairing be made either less or lifted the front fairing cos it looks like the fairing is way away and also looks too low IMO, correct me if it's not. . .

Thats why i have watermarked it as dman-xbhp so even if it goes to some outside site, its origins and credits could be traced back to xbhp and to all of us people here at xbhp.com. I have named the rendering also It looks like track focused yet street friendly sports tourer And so I would like to name it as PULSAR 375 GT. (Grande Tourer)
oh and does that fairing look that low...thanks for pointing out that. And yes the work took some sweat
i had to do a deep analysis of my first unfinished render to figure out the stuff you just pointed out and to make the rendering do more justice to the spy pics .You can compare the rendering that i had put earlier in p375 scoop thread and if you compare it,you'll notice the fairing is significantly a bit less as you said in the first rendering but after some hard close analysis of the last set of spy pics i revised the design a bit and noticed the fairing was position a bit low than i had actually thought and i think this was the element that made the already raised clip ons look even more raised and which i think also made the windshield look even more ridiculously position than it is actually. and yes had to work on a bit to get the position of wind shield correct and to do a lot of mind work to mentally render the full side profile of the front top part of the fairing and the gap within which i had to keep it in respect the front forks visibility and also if i had raised the fairing simply that means i had to entirely redesign the rear view mirror as it could have looked less functionally as well as ergonomically positioned as i had played a bit with the rider seat height being lowered as, i think, i believe, seat height will be lowered than that of the even lowered seat height of the duke 390 with respect to what they had done on the pulsar 200 ns as to the duke 200.And considering the fact that it is definitely gonna weigh at least 10 kgs heavier than ns, and considering with even bigger cycle parts and the bigger motor plus the bulky in looks full fairing,i think the kerb weight is gonna hover around a near 150-160 kg mark. And now with even the 145 kg mark ,many average built guys are finding it a bit hard than regular 145-150 kg pulsars to steer and handle the 200ns due to their feet not being able to touch the ground comfortably and firmly and confidently like on their 180s and 220s making less easy for practical use which pulsars are known for. And also this is a bit more bigger and wee bit track friendly so called super sports package, i think BAL will lower the seat height a bit since after all its gonna be tagged as the first supersports contender and so i think seat height could be in the range of 790-795 mm (p220's) considering the more focused ride position the super sports moniker requires. But then again who knows. To me i think its a mini sports tourer to put a bang to cbr 250r. Another part was the forks which i had to re draw as it had ABS grid but no portion to incorporate the sensor and its wirings and the disc calipers also were positioned differently on an abs equipped bike compared to its normal counterpart. so i analysed a bit and positioned it by taking a leaf out of how it was positioned in a ninja 300 abs version and then combined and re imagined it with p200 ns caliper design that my rendering had. It looks crude and shows a gap which is because of the fact that wirings and the steel braided brake lines were left out as mentioned earlier and that is supposedly for what that gap is left for. Tank was the truly difficult part which i think i couldn't figure out that much. Another was that i don't know how to draw the disc brake units fully and want know if there is any easier way to draw them (inside part). The rear fender is a fusion between a bigger lengthened version of the p200 ns aluminium brackets and numberplates cum illuminator unit found on a 2013 R15 V2.0. thats all wooo too big a post. Hope you guys had the patience to read it fully and sorry guys if i have tested it a bit with this post...
