Start of the year. Launching in the middle of Auto Expo can at times be counter productive. Your launch gets hidden behind the many updates from multiple manufacturers. While launching before the Expo, means you can generate enough buzz and still pull in people to your stall during the expo.

There is a good reason why Bajaj and RE, both who are scheduled to make a big launch each are skipping the Expo altogether!

TVS is a respectable Indian two wheeler company, from the Shogun days they have shown what they are capable of.The thing I don't like is their designs look sort of weird, compared to others..fingers crossed

They are not taking part because they believe its better to spend the money; that would go in renting a floor at the expo, ON RnD

Expecting 5 bike launches from Bajaj this year, NS200 FI, CS400, CS200, SS400(RS) and a spied commuter in between pulsar and discover

New Bajaj bike spied again, likely to slot above Discover

Haha. No they don't save the money on the Auto Expo for R&D

That money saved is used to host bigger better standalone launches, where they try to get maximum media coverage.

                  Yes sir, the marketing!

Those costs are high for 4 wheel manufacturers. Not so much for the two wheelers. The money saved on marketing at the expo is spent on marketing at standalone launches. The amount spent on the expo by the Indian manufacturers, won't make much of a dent on their development budget.

The reason – costs are being directed towards product development and marketing. The weeklong 2016 Auto Expo, India’s biggest automotive event, entails an expenditure of INR 5-15 crores depending on floor space occupied by each automaker.

Bajaj - Well, they have their own sheep who will buy whatever Bajaj puts out, so it doesnt make sense for them to put an exhibit

RE - Seriously, what were they going to exhibit anyway? New Bullet colour scheme?

HD - For a company that full of themselves, they probably feel it derogatory to be put in a Motor Show.

Skoda - Again. Nothing to show. No new superb, no new rapid, the fabia is not coming, and the octy's been recently launched. And the Yeti, for 21 lakhs is dead.

Volvo - Great company, a pity that everyone ignores them while comparing them to the german big 3. Might pack up and leave soon. Not enough volumes

Diamler - What? Who? Mercedes Benz is at the expo. So this one probably means about the Bharat Ben trucks. Meh. Who cares about trucks at the Auto Expo.

5-15 crores for most companies is peanuts.
