Re: Mahindra Mojo Introductory Price Rs 158000/- Ex Showroom Delhi

Saw the bike in flesh at the dealership. I must say the bike looks HUGE! That impressed me a lot as I have the hots for beefy motorcycles . However, the paint quality and finish was not upto the mark for the red colored model. The paint is poorly finished at the edges and joints. The exhaust note is great and gives the bike a lot of character (without the vibes).

Dealer did not have a TD vehicle and promised to send it to my place when it was available. I was impressed by this marketing strategy, however, nobody called

Firstly let me be very clear. I find CBR on the expensive side and the pricing of Mojo made it look good for the first time to me

A brand like CBR or KTM can charge premium for the brand as they are known internationally for a lot of good things. But a Mojo is nowhere and is new brand which will try to gain some volume from the established player so it cannot charge any premium. I will compare the pricing of Mojo with a Pulsar AS 200 which is at 94k ESR, for what Mojo offers over Pulsar AS it should be 1.3lac ESR

Now coming on to the bikes. Even with 50cc less CBR provides similar performance and maybe has advantage at the top end, also you get the Honda reliable engine and fairing at same cost.

MG , your points above doesn't make much logic.

In that case TVS apachi should be around 45k price coz...most popular bike splendor sells for 45k around :P

i think pricing is for component + assembly + R&D + service mainly and comes brand as last part and i don;t think brand price is like apple phones.
the given price for Mojo is right on the mark. at least they have to recover some R&D costs of 5 years

You haven't read my post properly

I will give another example. Back in 2000 when CBZ/Pulsar was launched the difference between a CBZ/Pulsar and Bullet was around ~15k which currently stands at ~50k. There are elements which have gone into the newer Bullets which will increase the gap but not to the current level.

Its the power of brand "Royal Enfield" that they are able to charge more and the customers are happy to pay. Infact if tomorrow RE increases all its models prices by another 3-5k their sale will remain same

Mahindra is in no position to do that right now. They have no standing in front of the established players so it was important for them to start well and offer a good price which will increase their consideration levels in the mind of prospective buyers.

I think one of the reason Mahindra is unable to price Mojo like Pulsars is due to the fact that while Bajaj makes more than million pulsars which share components among them and further share a lot with KTMs. That economy of scale is something Mahindra does not enjoy. Mahindra is a niche player in this segment and I don't think would be in position to negotiate with vendors on price.

What if Mahindra wanted to keep the price at a premium? The bike seems to be well built. Mahindra might be new to motorcycles but is a name to be reckoned in the four wheeler world. By under cutting the price, I feel it would have diluted its overall brand value. And Indians will be quick to dismiss it as poorly made. Considering this plus the features list, the price is almost spot on, at its current price.

The CBR is and always has been overpriced, it's build quality has a lot to improve honestly. If Honda can overprice such a cheap motorcycle, I think mahindra can too. Can you even by cbr today? Honda showrooms seem to be least bothered, still claim 90 days waiting and discontinued model lol Besides, this is not a mass market bikes, as you said a price increase of 10-30k makes little difference. Plus if people are ready to shell 2L for a RE and waiting to visit service centres, mahindra which has carefully launched the bike in only four cities is very smart.

Ofcourse, comparing pulsar is wrong. It has huge economies of scale as someone pointed. Their projector headlamp is shared with all pulsar and ktm, body panels, engine components and what not.

Very much this. Having kTM see the development side and them handling the manufacturing side saved Bajaj a lot of money. And not to forget the fact that they give birth to 12 products from one investment as compared to a single product like a Mojo or a CBR 250R gives them the advantage to price their products below competition and flood the market with many products at different price points and take a larger sales pie out of the different segments. But going forward, almost all manufacturers will have started platform sharing to reduce overall costs. The CB500 series, the new Unicorn and the Hornet 160R or the FZ/Fazer or Gixxer/Gixxer SF series etc which is ironic because most people on this forum complain about manufacturers using same engine/frame albeit in different state of tune in 10-15 commuter bikes but have no problem when the bigger bikes are meted out with the same treatment.

.
When the CBR was launched in 2011, the prices were 1.4 and 1.7 lakhs for STD and ABS variants. The nearest rival was the R15 at 1.1 lakhs. So how exactly is it "overpriced" again?
I always find it funny when people say the CBR has an inferior build quality. Can you people be very specific as to what part of it is inferior?
Because I'm almost certain that these bikes have been touring around the country over the last 4 years and there are atleast 6 people(2 or 3 are in the ownership thread here) in a group who have already crossed 1 lakh kms, almost niggle free with stock components and a clutch adjustment at best. Also given the fact that I'm yet to hear about its rims shattered into pieces despite me hitting potholes or unmarked speedbreakers on the expressways at triple digits, I think its pretty much been better than the competition in the sub 2 lakh category and is almost as good as the class leader in the R15.

And as far as waiting period is concerned, they have reduced production capacity to 400 odd units a month as its nearing its product cycle and a replacement is due next year as was hinted at the Revfest QnA session.

Some additional info for anyone interested -
1) The extended warranty is available to purchase for anybody, from what I saw. I think it was ~800, 1000 and 1400 for 1,2 and 3 years extended warranty respectively. I do not know if the RSA is also available tp purchase in a similar fashion.
2) Spares are not expensive. The oil filter is 92 bucks. The clutch and brake levers are 203 and 220 or so
3) The bike uses fully synthetic 10w50 engine oil - Castrol Power1 Racing is the recommended oil and so I think that is what will be used at service centers. The oil can said 812 bucks for 1 liter.
4) The stock exhausts come with db killers installed which can be removed after unscrewing 1 screw on each exhaust unit. But there will be aftermarket db killers sold separately which make more sound or something like that
5) There are crash guards/leg guards under development for the bike. Apart from this, a windshield and pannier frames (just the metal frames, not full-on boxes) and maybe saddlebags are in the pipeline.

Well, it's strange people jumped the bandwagon and started pointing fingers at the Mahindra offering without even taking a test ride.
Anyways, comparing it to Bajaj NS/AS/RS is funny. They don't offer what this product does at all.

Some unbiased inputs from my end:
1. Relaxed riding position. Absolutely straight, unlike the stupid foot rest position from the Dukes. However, wind hits the chest hard above 120 kmph. Mahindra shall offer a windscreen as an accessory soon.
2. 21 L tank. On the highway, we're looking at 600-700 km tank range, something Dukes/AS/RS/NS/Bullets can only dream about.
3. Pirelli tires as OE fitment. Only Metz can compete, MRFs are well.... And Eurogrips? Are you kidding me?
4. Brakes are efficient. However, they don't have a sharp bike like R15/Dukes. ABS is missed. Mahindra missed a chance here.
5. Headlights are okayish. May need replacement to better Osrams/Philips.
6. Pillion seat is narrow. Wonder what's going on with the manufacturers!
7. Engine - Almost vibe free! Throughout the rev range. Riding my ZMR post Mojo TR made me appreciate it even more. That's saying something!
8. Wonderful suspension. Potholes/road bumps are well damped.
9. Sweet exhaust note even with the pre-installed DB killers.
10. Switchgear feels nice, but should have been of better quality at this price point. Better than Stunner switchgear on CBR 150R though!

I for one, love everything about this bike. I believe, modding the pillion seat can solve my sole concern. Now problem is, Mahindra hasnt launched the bike in Tier 3 cities. Thats really dissapointing. Even Gusto was launched almost 6 months late.

However I did do a drive for almost 30-45 minutes.the comfort on this bike is absolutely heavenly.I think after Suzuki Inazuma this might be the one.such comfort is very hard to find on Amy bike .the headlights just suck donkeys balls.sorry mahindra why no projectors.Even the AS150 comes with top notch projectors.
However I do feel the fueling on this bike below 4000rpm is very snatchy.I didn't like it at all when most of the time in city one will be at 4009rpm.I fail to understand it took 5 years for then to test it but the fueling still is bad.that's a real let down.
Secondly are the vibes at above 6000 rpm at a bit lower gears(Something like 3-4-5)If anyone says that this bike is vibe free I absolutely disagree. Its a single, its a 300 cc so it will vibe but then at lower gears it doesn't tend to vibe.wish they fixed it but I know its not possible.I felt the AS has less vibes at that rpn at lower gears compared to this.
The reason why when a new bike comes out everyone stars to compare with pulsars I because the range of power and features it provides. After riding my AS then the MOJO I didn't feel a substantial increase of power.i mean I didnt need the feel to trade my bike with MOJO as pulsar already as pretty much good power.yes the advantage of mojo is the torque but then at 182 kgs wet you don't feel the diff much between As and MOJO.
Don't get me wrong MOJO is definitely a good bike, may be one of the best for a single pot but those who have pulsar really won't feel the need to upgrade to MOJO .may be Bajaj pretty much nailed it when it comes to single 200 cc bikes as I feel anyone's next target should be am inline 3 or 4 if he already owns any of the 2 bikes [emoji4]
