Its just 100 bucks for jumping a signal..
Did the cop want to book your friend (on the bike) for any other offence too?

how come in this site belonging to the hyd traffic police it is given a fine of Rs.300 without pollution certificate?according to the article it is written that the cops cant fine us right?i mean are the rules different from state to state?
Unfortunately yes the rules are different for different states. As per the Motor Vehicle Act, person need to pay road tax if he moves his vehicle from one state to other and stays there for more than 3 months and less than a year but in Karnataka it is just 1 Month. That mean if you have stayed longer than a month in Karnataka you need to pay the Tax.

Found this article on the net, just want to share it with everyone. (Its an old article but does the importance still persist)

Does the traffic police abide by whats written in the article or is it just a piece of information which was once published just for the sake of it.

tis a fact. and it's not just for PUC... the same goes for Insurance too.

meaning... if don't have you insurance papers with you / or even if it has expired...
and you're pulled over by an RTO officer... he can't fine you.

he needs to issue a notice...
which gives you 2 weeks to get your insurance in order. (after which you will be fined)

once you go back... submit your docs... everything's OK.

          no fine to be paid.

it's funny... almost everyone is more than willing to pay a bribe or a fine at the drop of a hat.

I'm going to write this post in bold because i think its important people read it
I have been using the traffic police website to force policemen to stick to the rules.

Head over to Bangalore City Traffic Police - Complaints / Suggestions leave a complaint about an officer who behaved badly or flouted rules. INcluding stopping for invalid reason. Head to the contact section and send a copy of the message as a email to Praveen Sood and area inspector.

Trust me guys, the circular inspector will call you within 2 days and fix your issue.

I have complained about cops checking for documents during drunken driving checks. They stopped this in our area. Recently some cops caught me going on a one way, he then tried to fleece me of Rs 500. A complaint later I got my money back and the cop would have been suspended but i requested not to take action.

I respect Praveen Sood, he has changed the way traffic policemen behave and act. We need more officers like him to lead the way.

the rules and regulations governing motor vehicles and fines/punishment etc are governed by four basic rules--

                  • Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules 1989
                  • Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989
out of above, 3rd one is state specific and other three are central goverment rules/acts, which can be downloaded from--

To think of it three policemen once stopped me in the dead of the night for no reasons and started asking for my documents. I showed them all one by one but i did not have an emissions certificate. When he asked for a fine of Rs. 600 for the emissions certificate my 6 months old R15, i refused and started arguing with him that there is no rule by which he could fine he instantly transformed into a 'Gunda' and threatened to seize my bike, put me in lockup and slap some cases on me. I no longer wanted to hassle wit him and paid the amount and rode off wit a bitter feeling in my mind... 'This is the India we are proud of... Here the lawmakers are the lawbreakers'

Also I believe similar rules exists in the other states too. Jagran CityPlus
in Mumbai its common practice to set up barricades and stop motorcycles for a quick check on documentation. their logic is that thieves and terrorists do not carry papers and they panic by spot-check.

even if such rule exists, its ignored by "orders from seniors" and with name of terrorism, you cant argue

Every now and then there is a Police jeep in front of my house and they try and stop almost every 2 wheeler to check for documents.I have been stopped almost 6 times now.Since all my papers are clean they let me go but this is really irritating.
Does this LAW apply to Kerala?

something similar happened to me too by the above mentioned cops. The constable asked me to pay 100 bucks for not having the certificate in spite of my bike being less than a year old...he wouldnt agree.he kept saying its valid only for 6 months but i argued and when i asked the main officer he said yeah it valid for 1 yr and let me go.

They do that in Belgaum alot! They catch people and specially school going kids near the end of the month (to fill their pockets) and suck the money from their pockets.

I do not have a license yet (i'm not 18, exactly 2 months to go i.e i'll be on Sept 17th), I've been riding a scooty every now and then since 5 years and been riding Bajaj Discover since 1 year, i recently got a Honda Unicorn Dazzler. But luckily i've never ever been caught ^_^, Many times it has happened the cops were right beside me and i got through!

My vehicle is registered in my name and I'll be getting driving license soon as I turn 18! I need some info on Driving schools. If i join a Car driving school, then do i get Bike+Car license at once? And can i join it now and get the license by the time i'm 18?

a driving school can only start lessons once u have a learners license.

you need to be eighteen to get a learners license.

and yes... you can apply for a two-in-one car + bike license

In hyderabad atleast you can apply for a learners licence at the age of 16, its valid for 6 months and you need to hold it for 30 days(atleast) in order to become eligible for a permanent licence, all driving schools take students without any licence, they charge 4600~ for teaching you driving and they also act as a broker to help you get the licence. But after reading some posts, i think it varies from place to place, for example, my friend in warangal managed to get the permanent driving licence just one day after he got his learners licence... you need to book a slot for learners licence test and in hyderabad you dont get a slot for the coming 20-25 days, they are already booked, i booked a slot on june19th and got learners on july 14th, now i booked a slot for permanent on july 16th...

When you apply at the age of 16,they give you licence only for gearless vehicle, when you apply at the age of 17.5+ they give you learners for any vehicle like geared 2-wheeler/4-wheeler.
