abroad they sold as Yamaha RD350

No buddy. The true US Spec bikes used to churn out 39.5bhp. But i dont know whether the story of the first few batches of imported RDs in India is a myth or not. Coz, i havent seen someone with a true US spec bike yet. Im not talking of the second hand e-bay barrels. There were test bikes which came for feasibility tests which were US spec RD350s, RD400s and even XS series bikes @ Faridabad factory

The HTs were produced from 83-early 85. They produced 30.5bhp. Then came the first batch of LTs with a tongue on the exhaust port and then the true-blue LTs which were the low-ended city blasteres. Both came with a raw power of 27.5bhp

The RD simply stands for "ROAD". Yamaha used to name their bikes as per its utility. road, trial, tourer etc. This was revealed by a Yamaha Official of the 70's times. All the other definitions are nothing but myths.

@ Binoy OH! so, you took a FZ? great! My RD is simply in fine tune Dumped the points and switched to a home made cdi. Its rocks thesedays.

Ya took an FZ... hopefully waiting for a 250+CC bike from yammy or honda... we here at TVM are conducting several G2G's occasionally... there are a lot of guys here in TVM for the G2G's... I come to thrissur on my FZ every month... hop we can meet one day...

and abt definition of RD- is ROAD? ok, i thought it was Race Derived... also can u give me ur phone number so that we can meet someday... mine is 9895553523...

Went to buy a 500, but dealer said that there are no stocks. Of course, I knew that so reminded him that I have come for the booking and the dealer said that Royal Enfield is not taking any advance bookings for the 500LB. So, does that mean they will discontinue the LB?

Good thing was the dealer told me to take a test drive on the TBTS which I had never ridden before. Man, must say, TBTS 'feels' like a much improved or 'modern' bike. Excellent exhaust, no leaks and pretty powerful for a Bullet.

Just thinking the Classic has the same engine with fuel injection and additional cc. Should be a blast

Mahendru Motors in Delhi is an old and relaible Bullet dealer. Recently went to book the 500LB, when they told me that production has stopped.

Today, the guy did confirm me about the launch on 4th November, but there was something more.

According to him, dont know how much holds water, the Classic will come in 350 and 500 versions, while the 350 will have the UCE engine but not the EFI, the 500 will have the 500LB engine with EFI and not the UCE engine. Pricing will be 1.1 and 1.3 lacs respectively although he didi say that is what they are speculating but moght be up/down 5000.

The UCE engine in TBTS cost 98700 (on road, Delhi), so the Classic 350 with hust cosmetic changes should be around that price.
Where as the Classic 500 is the 500LB with only EFI added and of course the visual get up and so price would go up by 20k.

Thinking about it, if the new 500 comes with UCE price would go up drastically and add the EFI and it would go further up. For the projected price, you can only have the EFI with ofcourse the neww look.

Dont know whom to believe and what to beleive, but its only a week more till 4th Nov, so...

And yes bookings will start from 5th November (that he assured)

booked the classic 500 today. its a uce with efi. same as the european bike. i might get it only after 6 - 8 weeks min since booking for 500lb for the last month get preference if they are moving to 500 uce since 500lb production has stopped. shud cost around 1.5 to 1.6. fingers crossed.

the classic 350 was also available. same 350 uce as the tbird. but without efi. shud cost around 1 to 1.1 is wat the dealer said.
