"9 Bhp on an Indian road with Indian tires + cows will still get your pulse racing. Get the MCN road testers to have a ride round one of India's major cities and national highways on one of these and their hearts will be racing faster than on S1000RR tests in the south of France...."

slight OT, but this Indian automotive blogger confirms a 400c pulsar by 2011 and a cruiser.

cmon it is not OT , if any body complaining abt bike being under powered then honda sure has the reason for the same. the targeted segment consists of not only just urban places but involves much greater no of rural areas as compared to former.

and it was good to hear that bajaj is concentrating on performance biking as well. thanx for sharing that.

The bike looks great! Would set-up some nice competition in the market.

                      It is just my speculation!

"the targeted segment consists of not only just urban places but involves much greater no of rural areas as compared to former."
I highly doubt that. The set up like alloys and disk brake plus good amount of paneling is not what a semi urban town or a village folks look for. They hate all this stuff for high maintenance and low availability of cheap duplicate replacements. And many in cities too hate this kind of stuff especially 35+ group of riders. So I doubt that this bike will be the end of CD Dawn + Splender + passion. Ok may be their costlier specs. Also if honda would have wanted a-true-blue-commuters-high-volume-churning-bike they could have done that in jiffy coz that is how they became the giant in automobile segment! What they are trying to do here is to strike a balance between a volume sales bike which is sort of lifestyle product in the segment and thus leading to a image of HMSI as the top end brand while keeping their stake in hero honda which will be projected as a brand for the masses.
                      When in doubt...... Gas it!

A bit more on my speculation. This might be a bit lengthy so please bare with me!

Ok I am from Gir area of Gujarat and lived most of my life in small towns and villages. So talking about my hometown Menderda a small township of about 10,000+ most of the bikes you see here are in the range of 100 cc and most of them are boxers and splendors and cd dawns. Why do you buy these bikes? I would ask and many would say 1] high average(Desi term for mileage) 2] cheap initial cost 3] low maintenance, no fuss, sturdy bike 3] known brand with years old reputation 4] older and more commonly sold models hence cheap duplicate spares available and can be widely serviced beyond authorized service stations.

Now look at the profile of this twister which does not work for rural or semi urban market:
1] Base model has alloys! welcome features for a city rider looking for better looks but pointless for a non urban environment as they tend to go kaput on rough terrains. And don't think people haven't tried using them in villages cos trust me they have and they have had epic fails with this alloys! (God this bring back memories of village posers )
2] Heavy styling based on paneling! People in rural market initially did not trust splendors in villages (at least where I used to live) as they had plastic cover and tail. On the other hand boxers were solid sell due to lack of such coverings and highly functional design. While they were hit in nearby cities like Junagadh and Rajkot as the young generation preferred splendors styling against that of many others. I remember boxers were such a hit at that time the launch of the pulsar classic was delayed as BAL could not keep up with the demand!
3] New model, hence the strategy of wait and watch. Boxers were discontinued when they were at the peak of their sales due to end of partnership between BAL and kawa. This caused the big burn to the rural market who had trusted newer models of boxers compared to older work horses like splendors and CD 100s. Thus then they turned to HH which at that time followed aggressive marketing in rural areas in Gujarat similar to that of bajaj and with reliable products and the new CD Dawn.
4] Honda has nearly no penetration in rural market. Hence initially they will have to make a brand building exercise which will cannibalize HH share directly there which is HH bread and butter. On the other hand Honda has image of being a no fuss lifestyle brand image already built with its activa and uni in the urban areas where vast number of young population is looking for a product that will make them stand out among other HH users like their Dad and uncles and mostly everybody that is above age 35.

Hence I think this product is not targeted at rural market but only at the cities.

Also a std. way to check weather the bike will strike a chord with the rural market or not is to ask your doodhwallah(milkman) if he would use it to deliver milk to his clients on daily basis? It is how I know!

By the way does anybody has a link to a credible Test drive of this bike? If not then I guess Team Xbhp should do the honors! Say what lads??

^^ Well put brother. This one is targeted at city commuters w/o any doubt, with a cap of just 17K per month from HMSI factory, it cannot outsell HH's mass produced Splen/Passions in near term.
But I expect the plant to go for expansion afyer a while b'cos HMSI will be flooded with lots of orders.

@ Cicatrix- Umm, bro, Honda had said in an earlier statement that they are targeting this bike at the urban youth, especially college goers who would want a sporty & really trendy machine which was quick & efficient....

So obviously, doodhwallas won't buy this bike, unless ofcourse, the style appeals to him & he buys it...
                              You get the point?? :D
