Two important things happened at Mahindra in 2008 and 2009. One which we are all aware of, their buy out of stakes with Kinetic India. With that stake, they ineluctably entered the competetive field of two wheelers in India. And thus they introduced their models that we know of and have seen coming on the roads, the Duros and Flytes. The second important event that took place and that fewer of us are aware of was the buy out of Engines Engineering. Engines Engineering is a design firm originally from Europe who have crafted Engine and body designs for various two wheeler manufacturers in Europe and Japan. With this takeover, Mahindra has started seriously dabbling in sincere in-house design, development and production. And evidently, they found it apt to put up an interesting stall in the two wheeler sector. I had a very interesting discussion in this regard with PR Manager of Mahindra Two Wheeler Sector. They have managed to develop and design a brilliant prototype of a 124cc capable of delivering 50+bhp which they have put up on their stand. Although it is only a concept, one can easily make out the way Mahindra is headed. Talking to him I realised that Mahindra is definitely quite bullish and very ambitious in the bike segment. If things go well, there might be some interesting bike(s) introduced in the latter half of this year.
