suspension stiff ride and low ground clearance issues

Hi srisetty. your bike is really beautiful. I went to harley showroom recently and liked the 883 superlow very much, especially the chrome parts. But i am concerned about the low ground clearance of 100mm which can definitely scrape the speed breakers in India. Though iron 883 has ground clearance of 120mm, i feel it is still low for indian conditions. can you tell me if you take the speed breakers head on or you cross them at an angle? Also what speed you need to slow down so that the bike chassis doesn't scrape the speed breakers? I also heard that suspension for iron 883 is stiff and it has been improved in the superlow. do you experience a hard ride or is the suspension fine for you?

Could you post more pics, esp of the Wind Screen? Guess you must be on the way to get a long beard, thick moustaches and a really really 'PHAT' pot belly? High time for you to get a jacket patch on your back. BTW how much does the Harley armour jacket cost?

If you like chrome, look at Super Glide Custom and you will fall in love with it.

In my 1300+ kms I have scraped only 1 hump in Bangalore. This one was a problem for most of the cars too. Since its a two wheeler, my second encounter of the same hump was smooth with a workaround (end of humps which are flat ). I can now easily judge appropriate speed for most of them. In some cases I go 20-30 and sometimes 5-10.

Suspension on Iron is average. The best one is with Roadking and you can customize Iron to take RK shocks.

Will click some more snaps this weekend. Harley Jackets are a expensive that regular DSG or A*. The leather ones (style quotient of most Harley owners) starts at 20K.

Following my 1 month riding for 1300 kms, I gave my bike for first service. My target of 1600 kms in 1st month didn't get realized because of not riding in couple of weekends

Very limited number of people can handle these bikes in service center and are mostly busy with so many deliveries. It is important to make sure that appointment is taken first and I had a chat before taking my bike. I had couple of complaints in the bike:

1. Some noise from the rear tyre
2. Leak of brake oil in front

For engine oil change, I opted for Syn as I was strongly recommended. Also, the price difference was not much.

After couple of days, I got the call that the bike is ready and rushed to the service center. I saw that the bike was ready and didn't notice any oil leakage. Also, the sound was "supposed" to have gone. Unfortunately, it was about to rain on that day and I had to rush back to avoid getting stuck in rain. I managed to avoid the rain, but missed out taking a proper test ride. The next day, I saw that the oil of front brake was still dripping slowly and the noise from rear tyre was also there. I am not happy with the service and expected it to be better .

I had to go out of station and didn't have time to go back to service center. The brake oil is still dripping slowly and I can't figure out the reason. All joints "appears" to be sealed

Meanwhile, I had another small ride and here is the pic with some accessories:

- Gear Change Pedel
- Handgrips
- Tool bag (aftermarket; not properly fixed)



Will be taking my bike again to service center and soon update with the feedback. I have now completed 1600 kms.

hey sri, really liked ur writeups and pics, helps other enthusiasts also.
i am also a harley fan rather cruiser bike fan, and have been driving a wagon r with cng since last 2 yrs to save some bucks for owning one of these 800+ cc bikes and have zeroed on iron 883 ( as of this moment)

some answers that i m looking for, if u can throw some light on.

i heared that, they charge for all srvices. no free service. is ths true?

is it worth waiting for triumph (america) launch?

i took the test ride in capital, loved it. suspension is an issue, but manageable, is it?

it seems that the accessories are also insured if bought alongwith bike
