      thanks
heyy bloke... indore is known for few of the best vintage car/bike collections in india. more on it later.
we have had excellent worksmen and mechanics working on exotic cars and sbks from around the country.
there are at least 10 cbrz ,
      busa n r1 as u said, with 4+ harleys.
harley davidson ulta classic elactra glide luxury tourer(30 lacs + in india)
      honda cb 400-750,
      few comets.
aslam bhai s garage near anand bazaar is one hot favorite these days among restorers, he maintains the complete album of classics and sbks.
in one such morning outing pic, there are 12-15 sbks lined up including the electra glide.
OT- aslam currently has an indian 750cc v twin for works parked up. restored beautifully in past, this bike s owner is from ahmedabad,
the model year is 1903??? one of the oldest of indian motorcycles?? the great grand daddy of it all?? and the red fuel tankled bike looks more like a bicycle with some engine strapped on.

          • DRI and Customs

I want to discuss, and thus educate, a whole lot of us about the legality of the SBKs. Now that people are getting these bikes legalized by paying duties, lot of legal SBKs will come out for sale. (sorry I couldnt find any other thread)

As we all know, hell broke loose on these SBK owners and DRI has summoned show cause notices to all of them who have illegally imported bikes...Now, these people are paying in the duty and getting their beloved bikes back. From what I know 600cc owners have to pay 5.25 Lakh while 1000cc owners have to pay 6.30 Lakh. On top of this they are asked to pay a bank guarantee of 2.70 Lakh...The owners are supposed to get this amount back after a period of 4 months.

Does anyone know more about this.
            To each his own karma!

I do not know anything about it, but I dont think it will be a fixed price. The price has to depend upon the bike's original price.
Nice to know that people are able to get their bikes back after paying the duty. Finally they will have their peace of mind...

Atleast having recently brought a bike into India on a temporary carnet (without paying customs), I can first hand tell you, it will be a very complicated procedure to import the bikes paying customs. Firstly, there is a lot of paperwork, which is taken care of by the clearing agent. Then you have atleast 6-7 different customs officers who have to inspect/sign the documents and also see the bike (I mean one on the ground floor, next on the first floor, next in the adjacent building, then back the ground floor.....etc). BTW, although its a time consuming process, I must admit in my personal experience the officers (atleast in cochin seaport) are all extremely polite & friendly. Now even if you/grey market agents have a 'setting' with customs- it has to involve so many officers and one officer alone can not pull off something like under-valuing the bike etc. Suppose you are able to undervalue & pay lesser customs, you will be able to register the bike, but then the DRI routinely goes to RTO to check papers of registered imported bikes and they can pull you up any time with their own calculation and demand the balance customs, plus a penalty on that amount. Conclusion: Its better to buy an official legally imported bike from the respective Suz, Yam, Hon, Duc, HD showrooms.

P.S: BTW a few customs officers I met in Bangalore at a party couple of years back are regular eves droppers into the xbhp website! Some of them are bikers.
