I must say - the new busa looks WAY better in person than it does in photos! It was an orange and black combo one.
    Was that a 2008/09 version????
i have seen several P180/CBZ modified into Busas ........beautifully done though....

Yeah, I have heard about the latest R1 sold in Kolkata from my friend. He was on his way to South City college, when he saw a huge crowd in front of Leaders (thats a Yam showroom).

He pushed through the crowd and saw a spanking new R1. Poor chap, did not have a camera cellphone to take photos, but he called me from there and told me about it. I was a bit late in getting there and by that time the bike had taken off. Later on I met the engineer from Yamaha who was specially flown in to put together the bike. I spoke to him, but he had a little trouble with english. Anyways, he also asked about the general impression about Yamaha and the R15 & the FZ.

I went in to the showroom owner and he was saying that the audience was applauding when the R1 (or the dhoom wali bike) was started and it revved and took off.....

But till date have never seen the mentioned SBK's in Kolkata.....
      You get the point?? :D

I AM EDUCATED!! I know a 2008/2009 busa when I see one dammit!!! And no chap who's modified his pulsar will be allowed to keep his bike right in front of The Park main door! It's a 5 star hotel dude, thoda izzat rakhna padhta hain!

A p150/cbz never will a massive in line 4 be!

@dhairya - all crap aside, serial killer is actually spot on about the general marwari attitude in calcutta.

It's actually quite suicidal to even think about riding bikes, forget sbks, above the speed of 50 in cal! The roads are a mess, the traffic is a mess in most places, and those dead tram lines don't help the case! Hey, I know it's hometown and all, but cal has some really REALLY shitty roads!!!

We should have a region wise estimate.

          West - Maharastra & Gujarat
Central - MP, Jharkhand and WB
          South - K'natka, AP & TN
North - Rajisthan (can be argued as west too) UP and all the above states.
          East - Assam etc..

My honest rough estimates would be

West - 5000 atleast it includes Mumbai Pune Gujarat and all the little places (including daman )
Central - I have no idea!
South - Bangy, Chennai et all. Atleast 3k there. Theres a bloody RSV in TN and a MV too!
North - Loads atleast 4k there are quite a few in C'garh, nanital, bairelly etc and not to Mention Delhi and Punjabis love superbikes!
East - I have no idea!
Locking the front and flipping is the worst experience you could err experience.

So do something about it mate rather than complain. I've been on more roads in Cal where I've ripped than I've been in B'bay. Depends which roads are you talking about - inside town or outskirts? Either way, Hometown is Hometown - its for sure improved since I last visited 2years ago

                    hemanta

I know one genuine guy who services SBk. His name is Biltu(quite aged person), lives in Sardarn Avanue, near Kalibari. He is the only one who works for thses bikes. Two yrs back I went there to purchase bike. At that time he showed me on honda 400CC and one 250 CC sbk. Even he has a Busa now. Currently I don't have his number, but you can reach there and ask to anybody abt his address.
Also, there are around 4-5 SBk in Kolkata as per my knowledge.
Even I will be the next one who is planning to shift my SBK to Kolkata .
The mentality of people of Kolkata is still backdated(don't mind) though I am also from the same City. They still think that it's better to buy a Car instead of SBK investing 4-5 lkh. Even I got the real experience when I went to buy my bike. Some funny comments were - "why are going for these bike where as u can't carry more than 2 people" .

I wonder, is there any relation between this thread and recent raids by DRI?

Do these guys check this thread?

I think that the only thing they noticed was the number of SBKs they see on the road compared to the bribes they have been getting of late !!

As far as the number of SBKs s considered. I know I dont have any, and that makes the SBK count one less than what it shud be !!
                        Sigh ....

There is definitely an official Hayabusa in Calcutta. The guy took delivery from the same dealer I bought my bike from --- This is confirmed.

You only misunderstood me. I asked you if the Busa you spotted was a 08/09 one?? Did I ever say that you do not have the ability to understand the difference between a busa and a P150/CBZ. Where is that coming from?? You ended up saying you are educated and all.

I am sure you are out of Kolkata for a long time. Next time when you come to Kolkata just check the Rajarhat road, roads in Salt lake, VIP road, E.M bypass to name a few. These are only roads from the city. Just go to NH2 and NH6. They are just few km away from main city. All I can say is that they are among top 5 highways in India.

You are absolutely right Insane. Kolkata has some beautiful roads too. Come to NH6 and NH2. The traffic is very less in morning. I am sure your ninja will be able to do 300km easily.

It's all about the attitude dude. As gim_102003 has mentioned. But It's not right to mention that Kolkata is backdated or something. It's all about the attitude. You will find hundreds of Marc, BMW in kolkata but you will not find superbikes. This is only because people here thinks it's better to buy a car than spending so much money on a bike. I still find people asking me why I am spending thousands of Rs on helmet when a helmet is easily available at 300 INR!! They still can't believe that I have 'wasted' 2000 Rs buying knee guards and elbow guard. They fail to understand the point in buying a pair of armoured gloves. I have come across comments from bikers like "Since you do lot of touring, you should have bought CBZ/Hunk, they easily give 55kmpl while your ZMA gives you maximum 40 in city and 45 in highway". " Do not buy riding gears, I will give you my old cricket gears. I do not use them these days. You can use the pads, gloves, arm guards and abdomen guard if you want". The sad part is that I have heard all these comments from guys who own P220, ZMAs, Bullets. Why do you think thay have bought those bikes?? It's only because want to show that they have money to buy them. You may now ask me if they have money why do not they buy SBKs?? Reason is simple. Here no one will believe that this bike can be worth 11/12 lakh. And aboveall with that money that person can easily flaunt a car.

You are absolutely right bro. Even when I went to bike my ZMA from a authorized leading HH showroom, they asked me to buy a Glamour insted of buying a ZMA. Their point "You will get all the features that ZMA has in Glamour in much lesser price and above all Glamour is giving so much milage these days".

Yes Anurag, you are right. I have spotted that bike three weeks back in Rajarhat. The owner said he has bought that bike from Delhi. This is it's pic.
