Surat Ride

Date: 29 Nov'15
Route: NH8 -> Mumbai - Charoti - Vapi - Surat & Back
Distance: 530 kms

We did a short half day ride to Surat and back last weekend. Some pictures of the ride below:

















Next ride for Midori is the big one - "LOSTinSikkim" which is a 7000 kms ride
I got few necessary changes done on the bike mentioned below:
- Fork Seal replaced
- Rear brake pads replaced
- Clutch Cable replaced
- Spark Plugs replaced
- Wheel Bearings replaced (Front & Rear)

Need guidance..
1.2014 Ninja 650 is available for 4,00,000.. it has done 6000km..
2. A ER 6n 2014 model..5500 km.. also available for same price
3. 2012 650 available for 3,50,000..done 20k km
4. 2015 650 available for 4,50,000 done less than 5k km.
My questions..
1. I am not able to make sense out of pricing of these bikes.
2. Buying any of these ll stretch and stress my budget..will I regret ? Or am I likely to regret ?
3. I have no experience or knowledge of checking previously owned bikes.so pls guide as to what all to check...pls give a link if any such previous thread or post exists..

Ninja 650 can be found very easily in market since many buy this bike as their first big bike and then few outgrow what it has to offer and sell it at throw away prices. It's a good thing if you are a buyer and sad part if you're an owner to loose money to such an extent.

I have zero regrets when it comes to the bike I have bought. It depends on what your usage is and what you desire. Every bike has its own purpose so choose which one you can live with. As such with the bike, there are no issues. Just like any other bike there are pro's and cons which you need to know before taking the plunge.

I have mentioned below things you need to check when it comes to paper work from what I know. You can check with experts, as I'm not one
Bike Papers: (All originals)
Tax Invoice Bill (Showroom Bill)
RC Card
PUC
Insurance
Road Tax Receipt

Transfer of ownership on sale:
Form 29 (2 seller's sign)
Form 30 (with signature of seller & purchaser & chassis print affixed on it)
NOC (if vehicle is purchased from other RTO)
NOC from financier if any.

Other Documents Needed:
Sales Letter cum Receipt on stamp paper for the deal
Delivery Notes (2 copies): stating that the vehicle & related responsibilities are of the new owner (XYZ) from now onwards. (Seller can keep one copy and one copy for buyer for reference)

Add on Queries: (Please Confirm)
Is the bike on loan? If yes, has the loan cleared. Please confirm.
If the bike was on loan and loan is cleared, I will need FORM 35 signed along with NOC letter from the bank stating the loan is clear.

Additionally, the updated RC card which states bank hypothecation is over (would bear the rider's name, and not the bank's).

Planning and saving hard to earn a Ninja 650 by November-December.


Could any one suggest me annual maintenance cost if i ride bike 20000 kms in a year (12000 on hills as regular long trips and rest in planes), don't have heavy pockets that is why curious.

Save! Save!! Save!!! It's difficult but the fruit you get at the end of the line is all worth it.

If you ride 20K kms in a year below could be the tentative costs you need to keep in mind:
1. Yearly Insurance (Zero Dep) - 12K
2. A set of Tires (Depending on which ones you pick) - 20-25K
3. Chain Sprocket Set - 13K
4. 4 Regular Services (1K, 7K, 13K & 19K kms) - 18-20K
5. Fuel (Considering Rs.65 per L and FE of 25 kmpl) - 52K

So tentatively you would end up with annual running costs of 1.2L inclusive of fuel.

You can also refer to my expense sheet I have maintained till date for any other expenses you think you might spend.


20K kms annually is a lot of riding on a big bike so the expenses would also be accordingly. All these costs can come down drastically if your usage is less.

Now i have actual idea how i can plan way to showroom.

Could you please suggest me about ground clearance of the bike with pillion considering my riding habits:
Normally I ride @ 15-20 kms/hr at speed breakers not letting my feet on road, will i have to completely stop and put my feet on road to move ahead? i have heard from many and also read in many reviews that it is major setback for bike. But i am in complete love with this beautiful, stylish and comfortable machine, so i can ignore if it is not a major problem.

The ground clearance is just 145mm and the exhaust sure does scrape if you go anything above crawling speed. With a pillion chances are even more.
So you will need to go slow.

Swapnil has answered your question. Just one correction GC of N650 is 130mm.

With pillion just bring it to standstill and crawl over the speed breaker else you will scrape the exhaust. When riding solo, most of the breakers you can cross at normal speeds but only be careful for those extra ordinary speed breakers.

A big fan of your thread, it was this thread that made me want to buy a ninja650r back in 2014 however my bank balance had some different ideas .
Come 2016 i have finally booked a ER6N, would be getting it by jun 18. can you share some tips for riding safely and maintaining during rains, currently i am riding a 2011 r15.

Also like you i like to tour and with pillion r15 was too painful.
