  • The Italian Dream: A Ducati Story

The first time I rode a super bike, I was hanging out with a bunch of guys much older to me, cherishing the very opportunity of staying close to those monstrous machines of theirs. That's the day, way back in 2008 that one of them offered me the chance to ride the 2006 Yamaha R1. I obliged gleefully, knowing very well that the most powerful motorcycle I had ridden till that date was the Karizma and that this would be a monumental leap. That day in 2008 changed my life forever and the pursuit towards the Superbike dream kicked off.

As the years rolled by, I picked up a Yamaha R15 version 1 and later on the version 2.0, quenching my love for the track while staying within the capable monetary thresholds available. During one of these track stints, was when I first saw the Ducati 848. It was beautiful. A bike like none other. The elegant headlights, those monstrous under seat exhausts and the legendary growl of the Bologna engine. I was in love once again, and it became clear to me that whatever I pursued as a career post college, it must help me attain the Ducati dream.

Fast forward 6 more years, completion of law school and almost a year into employment as a corporate lawyer, the Ducati dream was yet to be quenched. Ducatis are few and far in number in or country, and the opportunity to ride one has still eluded me.

That's where today kicks in. I had been looking to purchase the 899 Panigale ever since I started work, but Ducati replaced it with the 959 Panigale. The 959 Panigale is as gorgeous as ever. Sure, it's controversial because of the shot gun exhausts but it looked beautiful in person at the India Bike Week and I was certain on that day that this was the Ducati that would finally make me a Ducatista.

Went across the VST Ducati Showroom here in Bangalore yesterday and made my booking for the 959 Panigale.

The Ducati comes home in July-August. A dream of over 9 years will finally be lived and I hope it will serve as a reminder to everyone that dreams can come true if we work towards it with a singular vision. That vision here was a Ducati and that reality is the 959 Panigale.
Every Motorcycle has a tale to be told and there is no greater privilage in the life of a rider than to have truly understood what his Motorcycle stands to tell. Some of the greatest stories in the world are not written, they are experienced.

              Red[emoji4]

But I don't think India is getting the Artic White option. While filling my booking form, the Ducati representative automatically filled in red. Since that's the colour I wanted, I didn't ask more.

Haha. Exactly what I used to do on my R15 when I used to spot the 848 years ago

The official ex-showroom price for Bangalore is not out yet. Will be out only in July. But the hit will be 17-17.5 lakhs on road Bangalore. Ofcourse, I'm going through a financial loan scheme, so including interest it'll be higher

Bangalore taxes if I'm correct are currently 12% for motorcycles costing above 50,000 plus couple of cess charges and insurance cost.

Congrats! Amazing stuff Got a call from them yesterday saying the price on road Bangalore will be less than 17,30,000 INR and the test ride vehicle will be available in July first week.

And yes, like you said, hope we get it soon. This wait is horrid [emoji28]

Yeah, the long wait begins. My only hope was that they'd launch the underbelly exhaust version in India but we get the cannon style exhausts. I think I'll survive though [emoji6]

The underbelly exhaust is not available on stock bikes, even abroad, to meet EuroIV emission standards. But Ducati do sell the underbelly as an accessory. And since Ducati India has always brought their exhausts to India too, I think it's safe to assume this will follow!
                              Cheers!!
