Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!
Did a two day ride to the legendary Nurburgring in Germany and what an awesome place it is! Its a must visit for any automotive enthusiast, tons of special cars and special bikes (only few bikes though!).
The whole track is right in the middle of Eifel National Park so there are amazing forest roads and scenery around. I rode through Belgian Ardennes forest range before entering Eifel so it was corner overdose all along
I also briefly visited Belgian F1 race track at Spa as it was on my way but it is nothing compared to the atmosphere of Nurburgring.
To give a brief history, Nurburgring was built during 1920s and it was a 28km track in total length. It quickly got a reputation for being one of the most challenging tracks as it has many ups and downs and tight slippery corners and quickly varying weather! Later they only retained the northern 20kms track called Nordschleife and created a 5km Grand Prix track in the south, which can be combined together for one long track.
When there are no events, they let anybody drive their own vehicle on Nordschleife for a fee and I guess this is one of the main reasons why it is famous.
I did a lap of Nordschliefe early in the morning on second day before the chaotic drivers entered the track. This was my first time and it was wet as it was raining so I was extremely cautious in Rain mode but I still managed to slide the rear in one of the notorious corners and the bike wobbled a bit but straightened out quickly before things could go bad, phew!
(I am suspecting oil/coolant on road which happens often!).. Anyways, I safely completed the lap so that was big enough achievement for me! For the sake of curiousity I took around 15min to complete the 20km track (faster time was never my intention and it is ridiculous to try that in first lap). There are videos of S1000RRs doing the lap in 7 odd minutes on dry track (twice my average speed
)! Simply cant imagine the skill level and practice it mustve taken to achieve those numbers, truly incredible!
Btw I dont think I will do a lap here again during tourist drives as it isnt safe for motorcycles between wannabe speedster cars. I almost didnt go for the lap even after buying tickets because I got scared reading online about how risky it is for motorcycles! But atleast now I can safely brag that I completed, doesnt matter how slow it was
Here is a video I recorded later in the day, and you can see how fast and close those cars are.
Imagine you being on your bike amidst those cars in a corner! Thats why I chose to ride early morning and it was quite empty at that time.
Next time will be a lap on the GP circuit, which is also allowed for public on few occassions, and it should be lot more safer to ride.
Also I had a great time riding the roads around the track going to different view points, which are very scenic with top notch tarmac. The whole trip was a brilliant experience overall!
I have many more videos from GoPro (not the lap on the Ring as its not allowed for motorcycles) and I will try to make a vlog from it.
Here are few pics from the ride,
Ah, those forest roads around Eifel!

RR taking a break after cornering duty

The hotel where I stayed. The castle you see in the distance is the Nurburg castle.

Its all about motorsports in this little town.

The ticket for one lap of Nordschleife.

These ring taxis should be lot of fun. Sitting as passenger on a 560bhp, BMW M5 driven by a professional, phew!

Saw this hall of fame in restroom near entrance of Nordschleife.

The usual overpriced goodies, which they know people will buy!

And I bought these!

The entrance to Nordschleife track.

At one of the corners, Adenau Forst.

Pflanzgarten corner

The view from Nurburg castle.

Nordschliefe goes through the forest..

The town of Nurburg

The GP track

Went to the GP track, its a massive building with many stores, restaurants inside. I did not capture pics from correct angle to show it, but I have videos.

The view from the grandstand! Few companies/race teams seemed to be testing their cars.

A short break for the RR after the autobahn speed runs

The total trip was 587kms. I have done more than 1500kms on the bike since I got it, now I guess is a good time for a short review

Adarsh_Bk, do me a favor brother next time you go to the Ring/GP track. Get me some memoir from the place of legends. A cap/scarf/hanky/tee; anything would do. Next time you're in India, I'd like to get some goodies.
I now know what my honeymoon trip would be like!Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!
Its not that dangerous if you ride well within your limits (and also go when the traffic is minimum), but yes it is located in a very beautiful placeOriginally posted by akash22 View PostWow you lapped in one of the most dangerous track in the world and the beauty is so surreal
Btw, if you want to see how skilled people ride/drive this track, you need to see this

Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!
Needed some time to prepare this as I was busy on weekends lately
so here is a slightly longer video of what happened when I first test rode the RR!
A layman's first impressions of the 2016 BMW S1000RR!
It was my first test ride of a litre class so as you can expect, the excitement was quite high. So I will soon be posting a more balanced video on both pros and cons of the 2014 RR so that one can have a better idea what this bike is like

Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!
Didnt know how I should go about mounting GPS on the RR, then I came across this fork stem mount from https://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-S-1000-RR/Navigation-and-Communication/GPS-Mount.html
Its a brilliantly made product, blends in perfectly with the triple clamp. Its a bit more expensive than RAM fork stem mount, which had mixed reviews and hence I didnt go for it.
Mounting GoPro on it provides a very good angle as well.
Here is a short video demonstrating it.
