Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!

Bought few things for the bike today from a nearby riding gear/accessories store.

Bel-ray dry chain lube: It had very good reviews and as its dry, it doesnt spray at all. Currently the lube on the chain is similar to this, dryish and doesnt spray.
Ipone chain cleaner: I was not sure of this brand but it looks like it has decent review. The store had many options incl motul but he said this was most popular so went ahead with it. The spray can also comes with a brush to clean the chain, which is good.
Rim stripes: Just to add a little uniqueness
    Bike cover.

Re: Chasing my dreams... The S1000RR comes home!

Went on my first ever long ride on the RR, in two days did 711kms of which more than 350kms were curvy roads! Rode mainly on south Belgium and Luxembourg stayed overnight in Germany and then back to Belgium. This ride was mostly to understand the bike and get to know it better, so the aim was smooth throttle and taking correct lines than riding at supersonic speeds

Here is a short ride video to show how it was like

                Few pics from the ride,

First was a visit to an iskcon temple called Radhadesh, which is situated right in the Ardnennes forest region of Belgium. It used to be castle earlier but its now a temple.

At some rest stops along on the way...

Stayed at this hotel in Germany, just outside Luxembourg border, which was almost in the middle of the forest.

There were trails at the end of this road to hike, which I wanted to do but was too tired at the end of the day

Next day began with a ferry ride to cross the tiny river between Luxembourg and Germany. Had a good chat with that guy on Goldwing. I took this ferry previous day as well but didnt take a photo assuming GoPro was recording everything, which it didnt!

I got a gps route map for some of the best routes in Luxembourg and I simply followed it to the most part. It took me to some very scenic roads with zero traffic.

5000kms on odo, somewhere along the way

I came across this beautiful castle on the way, apparently it is the castle of Vianden which is quite famous. I didnt enter inside, only admired from outside and continued along.

While coming back I wanted to reach home a bit early and I had enough corners for a weekend, so decided to take the motorway, which was super boring! One of the pitstops.

                Back home!

                Few observations after the ride,

                1) So what's it like to ride a litre class on twisty roads?:
In short, the bike handles like a dream! Never ever did I feel the rear slip out of line or any instability mid corner.
But one important thing I realized was that its very engaging to take on corners on a bike like this & you need all your focus on the task at hand. The riding techniques seem much more important to fully enjoy what the bike can deliver. Since my main focus was to get the techniques right, it was quite engaging mentally as well. Also, its very easy to enter a corner too hot as there is so much power on tap, but the brembos can take care of it should it ever happen but when you get things right, oh, its such a rewarding feeling Moreover, with all its electronics its very manageable, that's the whole reason why they say its the easiest litre class to ride. Whatever mistakes I made, the RR forgave wholeheartedly

                2) Comfort:
Having never ridden in sporty posture before, I have quite some getting used to. On first day, I rode without getting off the bike for 2 hours and I had no issues, so I was really happy with that fact. I was actually fine till 250kms/4hours or so, and then some discomforts started showing and at the end of the day after completing 366kms and reaching the hotel, I had a slight amount of wrist, lower back and leg pain.Total saddle time might've been 7 hours. Of the 366kms, around 250kms were curvy roads so as I mentioned before, it was tiring both physically and mentally! But after 10 mins of relaxing in hotel, I seemed fine to ride more, but I knew it would be too much! It was similar observation on Day 2 as well, I was fine till evening but on the last stretch on the motorway it was very uncomfortable to just sit on the seat without moving.

                3) Kitna deti hai?:
Well you can imagine mileage wasnt on the top of the list of features when buying a bike like this but I wanted to know for my own curiosity and also for the tank range I can expect (tank capacity is 17.5L), so here is the math from my last 3 refills,

                i) 228kms,14L fuel -> 16.3kmpl (slight mix of city, motorway and country roads)
                ii) 207kms, 12.1L fuel -> 17.1kmpl (mostly country roads)
iii) 98kms, 5L fuel -> 19.6kmpl! I had to recheck my calculations but yes, it is correct This was completely on country roads of Luxembourg, mainly ridden in 3rd/4th gear in its sweet spot. I filled just before the Belgian border as the fuel is cheaper, hence only 5 litres before it became full.

I am more than happy with these figures! So I can safely do 230kms before I start looking for a fuel bunk, which is what I used to do on D390 anyways

                4) Take every memory card you have!
I didnt realize my 32gb card for gopro got fully filled on first day itself! I knew it wasnt recording anything only on the second day after several hours of riding I had an extra 32gb card at home but didnt carry it thinking it wont be needed. Anyways, I enjoyed the ride, which was the main aim after all

To talk more about the bike, it is too early now! I can only sing praises and nothing else, which most of you already know and there is nothing new! So it is better to talk about it after owning for some more time and once I have clearer picture of all its pros and cons

What a fantastic road... BTW did you pop any wheelie because so much power little aggressive throttle would lift the front right??

Roads are lovely and those meadows man! Nice to see cyclists sticking to their lane and not waving around and good gesture from your end to oncoming motorcyclists.

Awesome stuff dude, well done. Best way to get to know a bike is to take it for a long ride. Thanks for taking the time to review it.

If you enjoy riding corners and you haven't done so already then consider doing a cornering course like California Superbike School. It's expensive but I'm sure it will advance your riding skills and make you more confident on the bike.

                      Happy riding

Yeah man... the roads were just brilliant.
Its easy not to pop a wheelie if you keep the right wrist in check and dont simply whack it. Moreover, the traction control will only let the front wheel go 2-3 inches above ground and then puts it back where it belongs I am not a fan of wheelies anyways.

Yup, it reminded me too There are lots of places in India with roads like this but the difference here is it lasts for hundreds of kilometers so you can practically keep riding few days only on corners!
And yes there were quite a few cyclists as well but they usually ride at the edge so we dont have a problem. Cars do though, they have to go onto opposite lanes to overtake so sometimes they end up waiting behind them for quite sometime
Also almost everybody waves at other bikers irrespective of type of bike, its a nice gesture indeed

Thanks man, I just wanted to put down my thoughts after the ride, I would like to make a detailed one in future
And I already checked CSS but they dont do lessons in Europe. Its not mentioned on their website atleast, I am a big fan of them btw, I read and watch Twist of the Wrist 2, infact I watched it again the day before I went on the ride!
There are many other riding schools here which organize track days so I might attend one in future.

I rode one (2015 model) at the track for a day, it is an absolute blast to ride the 1000rr. It felt like a 600 (handling), goes into corners with ease, and once you crack the throttle...
