          Haha, older R1 (maybe even current ones) used to do 160 as it had taller first gear. And cmon sirjee, it was just for challenge, I wouldnt do it always I also shift at 20kmph many times

                Hey, great going - but I do think Belgium has speed limits of 130 kmph only...So did you already try the German Autobahns That is something this bike truly deserves and you too deserve it!

                Also any track-days or riding school you attended?

                  Yes and yes I think this thread has too many pages now so it might be difficult to find all the updates for readers, so to answer your first question, I have been on autobahn many times now.                       Here winters arent that cold so I am still riding the bike and will continue to ride as long as there is no snow/ice on the road (Heated grips ki jai! ) Last year it was just a couple of weeks in Jan when there was some snow, enough to play with but not too much to block roads, so hoping the same this year.

                        [Service Update - 22/09/2016]

                        If you were curious to know how much a bike service costs in Europe, below are the details.

                        This was the 10000kms service but the bike had 11300kms on the ODO at that time. I had checked with BMW guys and they were fine with delaying the service a bit since the bike had a checkup done when I bought it at 4450kms on ODO. Here were the costs involved,

                        [Using 1 EUR = 74 INR]

                        Engine oil - €84.4 [₹6245] (4 L of engine oil, definitely expensive compared to India as well as buying separately here. I will buy the oil myself next time)
                        Oil filter - €20.43 [₹1511]
                        Air filter - €37.46 [₹2772]
                        O ring- €0.59 [₹43]
                        Labour for service + tyre change/wheel balancing - €110.69 [₹8191] (Any work involving manual labor costs several times that of India , it is charged on minutely basis)
                        Test ride after service - €20.3 [₹1501]
                        Waste disposal - €3.38 [₹250]


                        So the total cost was €277.25 [₹20517]. I got a replacement bike for a day which was R nine T and it costed €24 [₹1776]. So I could have gone away with a bill of €301 [₹22274].


                        But I did a mistake of asking them to fix a minor oil seepage from the R&G engine case protector. I had installed these covers myself in June and it worked without problems till August. But then one of the R&G bolts seeps some oil, a bit of loctite on it or just reinstalling the cover should have fixed it. But the mech worked on it for 1.5 hours apparently! No idea why it took so long. I had installed those covers myself in much less time than that, the only reason I didnt want to fix it was I wanted the professionals to handle it so that oil seepage never occurs.


                        I got a labour charge of €115 [₹8510] for this by the way (as I mentioned above, labour charge is charged on minutely basis). The cover itself didnt cost me this much and there was still some minor oil seepage last time I checked. I hope it was the oil which was already there and not new one from the engine. Anyways lesson learned, whatever can be done, do it yourself!

                        That minor seepage continued for few days but as of today, it has stopped all by itself (still wondering how it fixed itself ) and I have stopped checking it every now and then.

                        So the final bill was €416 [₹30784]

                        Next service is after a year or another 10k kms and it will be the basic service again with similar costs as mentioned on the top. The one after that at 30k on ODO will have valve adjustments and some other major work involved.


                        The new tyre which I got installed was Bridgestone S21, bought it for €238 [
                        17612] for a set of front and rear. These are track worthy road tyres which are also decent in wet so it ticked all the right boxes for me and also since it was launched on Mar 2016, it had all the latest tech from Bridgestone. They felt so much better than original stock tyres right out of the showroom even before the tyres were broken in, which was kind of obvious as the stock Bridgestone BT016 is antique in comparison.

                        I am curious to know how much the same service costs in BMW service centres in India. If anybody has any info, please do post I am sure the labour charges would be lower.

                          Well, not sure about BMW but I can tell you about Triumph.
                          It is not exactly cheap.


                          As an example, I recently got my bike serviced for an annual service including front brake pads change.
                          It came to about INR 14000 approx.


                          So if you spent about INR 20000-25000 in EU country inclusive of labour, then you got a reasonable bill my friend!


                          In India, due to high import duties, the spares are damn costly.
                          E.g. I have ordered a replacement front wheel rim (I hit a huge pothole and my bike's front rim has a significant bend but not major enough to entirely stop riding..There is no air loss and no noticeable vibration).


                          Price of the wheel is a whopping INR 51200/- Yes you read that right. If that is for TRiumph Street Triple, surely BMW parts would be much more expensive.


                          Even then others like Kawasaki and Suzuki are also not anything cheaper. Ducati and MV Agusta are surely costlier. Even Benelli service costs per year are not very far off from Triumph costs.


                          Labour costs in India are generally low - but these premium showrooms charge very high amounts for otherwise normal activity!


                          E.g. my bike if washed at a local centre, it costs me hardly INR 60-70. But Triumph Service Centre will charge at least INR 300!
                          Chain Cleaning and Lubrication can cost as much as INR 500-600!
                          Many owners in India are also doing small stuff at home as a result.

                            Yes, the bill (apart from that extra labour cost) was indeed reasonable here.


                            The spares are costly in India and also one has to wait a long time, sometime months! And I hope your insurance covers the rim costs.


                            There was an interesting fact I came to know while I was buying a bike here was that the spares for BMW was at par if not cheaper than Japanese manufacturers, mostly because the spare just has to come from Germany for BMW but it has to come from Japan (or Thailand etc depending on where its manufactured) for Japanese bikes. So maintaining a BMW here (or even Ducati for that matter), was not as expensive as people thought it would be.

                            BMW does charge a slight premium for labour compared to other manufacturers and I am not particularly impressed with their work. Apart from that leak fixing saga, I had asked them regarding suspension tuning in the past. For that I need to sit on the bike, suspension sag has to be measured and then preload should be set. Later adjust the compression and rebound settings for optimal ride. But the mech simply made all the settings a bit harder, no sag was measured and he wasnt clear on what I was asking (language barrier is also partly a culprit). Maybe they were not trained for it, though the owner's manual talks about all this and since its not a one man job and it also needs some good knowledge and experience, I thought of asking them. Anyways, I later found a suspension tuning shop who work with race teams but I havent visited them yet.


                            Like you said, the SBK showrooms in India do charge much higher than the rest but I would still expect it to be lower than here.


                            And do they still wash bikes for just 60odd bucks? I used to pay 100+ in Blore at wash centres and 200+ in KTM SVC for the duke Here I use a self wash system where you insert coins and the pressure washer runs for preset time. For 4 euros and half an hour of my time, bike was all new

                              Hey Good to know all that info. I did expect BMW to be reasonably cheap in EU as naturally they will also add taxes to anything coming from outside EU which makes Jap bikes costly. But from what I see, I felt that Kawasaki still has a good hold in EU among Jap bikes. In Germany Kawasaki was one Japanese brand I encountered in too many places.

                              Yes, in Pune costs are bit lower than Bangalore. So locally few things are still relatively cheap - Gurgaon/Delhi are cheaper.
                              Finally the rim is expected to arrive by 15th Dec 2016 give or take couple of days.

                              I am surprised to know that mechanics are not so methodic in Belgium - may be in Germany they are (all my experience in Germany points to those people being very methodic and won't miss out details even though they are very bookish/procedural in approach and any small thing out of order/unexpected issue disturbs them and they totally lose the way!!)

                              As of now attitude of Govt of India towards superbikes is similar to supercars/luxury cars. They are simply milking the segment by regularly increasing taxes and import duties. But in a way that is good! This is forcing many to set up units in India and do either assembly or full production in India (now even Suzuki Hayabusa gets assembled here locally resulting in significant price drop few months ago).

                              High speed automated washing systems for cars are now available in India (heck, one is right there in Hinjewadi also ) but super bikes are smaller in number so people haven't thought much about it possibly.

                              You may be aware that BMW Motorrad is expected to get very aggressive in 2017-18 after launch of BMW G310R here. They will assemble many products here and prices will come down. This will surely give tough time to other premium brands. But so far nobody has captured India the way KTM has (to an extent Harley Davidson also has captured - that is the largest import brand I guess followed by Triumph, Kawasaki and Suzuki)

                                First of all congrats on the awasome purchase. Yeah I can undeerastand this feeling of not letting your eyes go from the love of your machine you have with you. Like I can get over my eyes of my cruiser. Well all the best and yeah nice pictures of the bike well blue happens to be my fav color so the combination of white and blue looks good on the bike more over if you really ask me I guess bmw looks good with this theme.
