Guys- Sorry for the delay as work has been overwhelming.
As promised on the 'little BMW introduction & tutorial', I have taken plenty of pics and now just putting the text together. Its quite big and so I shall start another thread to avoid confusing this thread (if the mods agree).
In the meanwhile I had a visitor from India last week and I took him on our week-end ride. He was absolutely ecstatic with the experience and has shot a few small videos and promised to upload them on YouTube this week after returning to India. If he keeps his promise, I shall post them here.

Glad to find a BMW group alas! but in Jeddah. Just joined xBHP.
I was always a BMW fan. Owned one R27 since 1995. Belonged to my brother in law who imported it from UK. Being a marine Engineer I restored it myself with some parts imported from UK. Then I bought a run down R90/s and did it up. worked so well that the guy who sold it to me bought it from me again. Since I saw the BMW Montauk in 2003 I wanted to get one. Finally in 2008 I bought one in USA. This was from an advert on the net. I finally shipped it home to Mumbai with all duty and fine paid. (total 135%of declared value). Did not want any hassels from authorities when riding. So now its here and am enjoying the ride. will post pics of my bikes shortly.Comment

The BMW Montauk cruiser is a beautiful looking bike. As BMW made it only for few years, yours can be considered a collectors item. So it will hold its value for a long time. We need some pics
Its relatively easy to maintain and shares most of the technical stuff as my R1100RT. Just make sure you change the transmission/finaldrive oil (API Class GL-5) once every 20,000kms or 2 years, whichever comes first. Also check engine oil level often as the boxers do sometimes take in more oil in hot & humid conditions. Also worth investing in a BMW battery charger that can be kept plugged all the time when the bike is not in use as the ABS makes the battery go kaput if you dont use it for 3-4 weeks in a row. For you in Mumbai, the closest & best spare parts source would be AGMC in Dubai- They are relatively cheap as there are no taxes etc. If ordering online, BOBS BMW in US are very good & reliable. I have used them a few times and they were really good. UK will be expensive.
Bangalore seems to be the beemerland. Atleast 2-3 R1200C cruisers, 4-5 R1200GS, 2-3 R1150GS and quite a few of the old classic R bikes also.

i never like the bike much
but that bike is a beauty

Ofcourse Adil, the K1200R is in a league of its own. You have to ride it to feel the difference as compared to a lighter japanese bike. Also the suspension is something totally different. I am waiting for my turn to take that bike for a long ride, but as our friendly BMW dealer wanted to make some suspension adjustments on that bike and change tires etc it may be probably after Ramadan, when I return to Saudi from my holidays in Bengaluru.
