@gs: Congrats on being 5th time lucky ! All the fertility treatments surely seem to have worked
Its a boy, and he's 1670cc BIG. I just wish i could've witnessed the papa and his kid on the very nice, NICE road
May Thor bring you 15.3 kg-m of smiles with every mile

Is it too much to ask for a thorough ride report in the near future in your inimitable ishtyle?

    Cheers !

Awwwwwww, I read every page non stop hoping for the delicious er, 'climax' towards the end, but the trailer still seems to be running

Lovely initial writeup, huge Congrats on finally getting to where you are right now, due appreciation to rossiter for helping you out so much, and I'll restrain myself from commenting on the bike since it would be sacrilege to do so

          Hail MT01!!!

Congrats again GS, rock on er.. rumble on!

@GS: I always thought when you are back home after a late night 'wet' ride... nothing.... and I mean nothing can give you goose pimples! FK I WAS WRONG!
Firstly, Congrats for the Baby Monster! It has come late, but it has finally come and thats whats the most important!

So now you have a BIG Yamaha family.... I wonder how your old kids would react to this new center of (everybody's) attention child!

Honestly I dont have an alternate route to office, I have been subjected to some good tasty (I have no choice) 2T oil once there when I was on a punny 160CC RTR, not really street racing or anything but just being myself and then see a RD pass by and ....

I am hoping to see the PDI report as Akhil covered for his Aaargh one... ! and those initial few pictures suggest that they are being worked upon by him somewhere in the bit and bytes of his computer!

First ride report, second ride report argh anything and everything!

I was waiting for this one to be up. Glad to see your write up. Absolute fun the way you described it. And this comes from a guy who has extensively ridden the Busa over thousands or kilometres.

I congratulate you on acquiring one of the insanest pieces of machinery on two wheels to have been made. Looking forward to reading more with visuals and imagery. Thanks GS.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Thor was born on the 4th of July and I believe the thunderous note of it's dual-cannon-exhausts did great tribute to the celebration of Independence by the citizens of USA.

Thor is the last of 5 MT-01 conceptions. The first 4 miscarriages had me convinced that I would never know what it would be like to father a healthy 200+ kg 1670cc infant. Even the 5th attempt was a troubled one with unexpected complications that resulted in heart-break, rage and depression. It is never easy watching the fruit of your labor dying a premature death and the familiarity of the symptoms were hard to accept this time. Somehow fortune, in the form of a healthy donation from my own parents and some enthusiastic friends at HDFC, came to Thor's rescue and he was pulled out from the abyss and into the real world.

I solicited the help of my cousin (who owns a Bolero) and drove down from Mumbai to Bangalore. Rossiter (Akhil), in the meanwhile took delivery of Thor on my behalf and went over it with a magnifying glass to pick out any potential points of worry. Thor was parked safely in his garage...awaiting my arrival. As we drove into Nelamangala near Bangalore, Akhil rode out to meet us on the MT01. As I was dressed in shorts/tee I declined an opportunity to ride Thor right then and there and requested Akhil to proceed and guide us to his house. Along the way we came upon some fantastic roads in the form of "Nice Road" and I changed my clothes in the middle of a 6-Lane expressway because I couldn't watch the MT01 and not sample it's insanity for myself.

There are videos of my antics, thanks again to Akhil. I am sure these will come up here along with picture of Thor and friends.

My first ride on Thor was like being thrown into the middle of 300 fierce spartans all wanting to explode out the back of the bike and stab me. First gear...roll on the throttle and let out the clutch, the shudders of power pulsed through the bars and the seat - this is as strong a sensory experience as I have ever experienced! Accelerating through the gears gave me a really close look at the back of my skull as my eyes threatened to sink backwards and pop out the back. It is IMPOSSIBLE to explain the feeling of going quickly on an MT-01. Other superbikes are ho-hum in comparison when it comes to speed. They lack the drama that you will come to associate with high-speeds on the MT-01. On a Hayabusa you can do 250 kph without a care in the world. While the MT-01 can't do more than 210 kmph, even at 100 it feels like it is going incredibly quick. The wind, engine-note, vibrations and the incredible console make every ride...an EVENT.

Around the city the bike is well behaved but heavy to handle. I am big and resonably strong so no issues for me. The kind of attention the MT draws is on another level. People flock around if you stop somewhere even for a few seconds. I stopped near the Vaniyambadi toll-plaza on the way from Bangalore to Chennai and ALL the officers there ditched their stations and stood around the bike gawking away. They gave me water to drink and they were all incredibly polite despite their intense curiosity.

In the city though it gets worrying because people look at you while they drive and their vehicle tends to go where there are looking...which is AT me!
Another problem is that they seem to be DETERMINED to get you to turn the headlights off gesturing and making weird signs and faces to get my attention. Everyone wants to take a photograph with the bike (most of them ask me to step out of the frame ) and everyone wants to tell everyone else what they think about it. Impromptu white-board sessions and conference calls occur around Thor all the time.

It feels like being a flunky, groupy...a celebrity's entourage...a . Behind the helmet you can be a monkey, movie-star, politician, criminal and pretty much anyone you can imagine and nobody would care. You don't matter anymore...

It is all about the bike...and that is why the MT-01 is so special. There are too few of them out on the streets for instant recognition. Nobody has seen one and that "exclusivity" adds to the joy and, sometimes, frustration of owning one and using it on a regular basis. You will be instantly recognizable and people will go "oh it is mr. so and so who lives here and watches lesbian porn...". Soon there will be no secrets.

I've decided that this bike I will take to the grave...unless it takes me there first. I have a lot more to say but I'll let Akhil (Rossiter) say his bit and post the pics and videos...

                            Over to you Akhil
Congrats GS on conquering the Kodo warrior, I was at Bangalore Wheels on saturday(4-July), just missed you guys by around 30mins....
Waiting for the ride pics and log of your Bangalore- Chennai ride...
                            take care bro...

It's been an absolute roller coaster ride getting GS his MT01. Countless talks about the bike, and purchasing details later, things finally began to take shape once GS put down the money in early June. Having heard so much about Bangalore Wheels from me, and a prior bad experience with other dealer(s), he decided to get the bike in Bangalore, register it in Chennai and ride it back to Mumbai with him.. And he is doing exactly just that as I type this

So, anyway, we began cornering the Yamaha officials about transit times, small niggles about the purchase, bigger ones as well. One thing after another, and one fine day GS ended up here on some personal work. I was able to get him a ride on a friend's MT01, and he was instantly hooked.

The decision was made, and there was no turning back from that point I suppose. Anyway, fast forward to the delivery day.

The bike had finally arrived from Kolkata, where Yamaha had been keeping the bike. So I headed down to the showroom, and got the shock of my life when the bike appeared out of the truck with the wheels on, and the PDI was already done, even before it had arrived in Bangalore. (Refer teaser pics).I wasn't very comfortable with what was going on, and we immediately got the Yamaha officials in the loop about the situation. We were clear that if it was a display bike, then we would be expecting discounts on it. THe Yamaha officials assured us that it wasn't a display bike, but that they had started delivering bikes with the PDI already done beforehand, so that the dealers don't have to do it. It all felt fishy, and it still does, but GS asked me to drop the issue and go ahead with the delivery.

I got done with the paperwork, and later that evening, I went down with a friend to finally take Thor home. GS was to land up in Bangalore with his cousin the next day, and in the meantime, the Karnataka temporary registration, puja etc was taken care of.

With the Bangalore Wheels service guys..

So I straddled Thor, and thumbed the starter. With a lazy starting crank, the motor rumbled to life, and I let it warm up. It was getting dark, and spots of rain began to appear on my visor. I had to go tank up with 97 octane as well, and then get home ASAP. I didn't want to get stuck in rain and muck the bike up on the very first day of the bike coming home. So, with my friend rolling the camcorder, I took off for the pump.

The fact that I have lusted for an MT-01 is well known. I've even mentioned many times that I should have bought the MT-01 instead of the R1, with all due respect to my R1, which has given me memorable trips, and taught me so many things. Besides, it was also the first time in 4 months that I was piloting a big bike. So, the ride to the pump and back home stirred quite a few emotions and I let it all sink in, while the clouds were threatening to come down on me.

I got to the pump, and tanked up quickly, and waited for my friend. I realised just how much attention the MT attracts, even more than the R1 even, when random people just could not tear away their gaze the minute they laid their eyes on it. The MT's looks are clearly radical, and non-conformist, and it takes a long lingering look for the mental picture to form in the head of a person who has seen it for the first time. By now, it had started raining, so people began taking shelter at the pump, and the conversation obviously veered towards the alien bike.

So, anyway, my friend got to the pump, and we waited for the rain to taper off.

Some pics while we were waiting..

The rain stopped, and I took off for home, with my friend desperately trying to catch up on my trusted P180

This was the first time I was riding the MT in dense peak hour traffic, and it felt like a handful. Quick direction changes were out of the question as it needed quite a bit of hefting, but it more than made up for that with the gearbox, and engine. All I needed to do was slot it in 2nd and let the Massive Torque slingshot me past shocked cars and bikes, who thought they had an FZ16 in their RVMs. It was huge fun, and on the way I decided to head to the temple directly, get the formalities done and then head home.

Once I got to the temple, I found that the priest was a bit busy, and I had to wait for about 15 min before he could come by and bless Thor. My friend got there in the meantime, and while we were waiting, we were converted into salesmen for Yamaha by the passers by who could not resist stopping and ogling the MT-01. Soon, there was a small crowd, and being a narrow road, Thor had caused a traffic jam in no time! Cops showed up and dispersed the crowd, and they themselves stood by and began peppering me with questions on the bike. I had called another friend for some more support, because it was clear that the two of us owuldn't be enough to hang around the bike in such a public place. And in no time, Thor had his own security detail in the form of a marketing research analyst, and a software project manager

Finally, the priest came by, and he was stunned when he saw the bike. Instead of starting the ceremony, he began calling his colleagues and they began clicking photos and I was asked difficult questions like whether I would like to make a donation to the temple fund, become a trustee etc etc. After politely declining, I requested the priest to begin, and he started.

                              Waiting for the priest..

                              Finally arrives..

So, with the ceremony done and dusted, I headed home where my family was eagerly waiting to see Guru's bike. My Dad's immediate comment was that the MT-01 looked, sounded and in general much better than the R1 for the money both command. I suspected he was rubbing it in, but I had to agree to an extent.

Thor was home, and I called GS up to tell him that. He was relieved, and from his voice, tired but couldn't wait to get here in the morning and take Thor for a spin..

The next day's events will be continued, once I get rid of my work for the day

PS: There are plenty of hilarious videos that I will start uploading soon.. Definitely worth a watch.

I hope this will do for the time being.. Congrats once again GS, may you and Thor put thousands of safe kilometres together.

I will always hold a candle for Thor, having woken him up and taken him home for the first time.
