I use Xtrapremium wherever available with good results.
Shell??? Do we have Shell in India? I haven't seen one in Mumbai.

So Power is 87!!! They are boosting octane ratings with additives? Is that the correct method?

Anyway, do both of you have some proof about this? I haven't been able to find anything in written word from any of these Oil companies. In the UK their octane rating is based on RON, I believe here it is different.

By the by, I almost always use 97 (WHITE) in my bike. Only in case of emergencies I use the others.

Ah the big station at Bandra/Linking rd junction is Shell right? I'm in South Mumbai so going there to fill up is painful :-) No Shell this side of town.

Anyway, none of these companies are giving any conclusive statements regarding the Octane rating of their branded petrol are they?

You can ride on Xtrapremium, Speed (91) without any worries. The motor will feel slighly warmer than usual but even this isn't a problem on the highways. I won't be running 97 octane anymore.

I have in the past, as there are only a handful of sttaions that offer 97.

But how can one say reliably that xtrapremium and speed are actually 91? What if they are just normal 87? It means we can run reliably on any of them.

I have heard about the motor running hotter too but the times I have used it I haven't found a significant difference, the difference I noticed could have been just a perception.

Nothing is pure in this country...not the air, water, milk and even the people. Even I believe the "warm running" thing is just perception because I don't notice anything while on the move. On the highway...there are no overheating problems at all!

Anyway - we need to sync up - check your PM. Lets not hijack this thread anymore

The 09 compression ratio is still lesser than that of the 08 Yamaha R1 which is 12.7:1 and the R1 can get by on 91 octane in a pinch. 95 octane is still recommended for these bikes at a bare minimum but you are right - the older Busa is more tolerant to 91 octane than the new one.

Fortunately my MT-01 has a compression ratio of 8.4:1 and therefore...I could even run it on Nimbu Paani with decent results
Yeah sure, you should try nimbu paani next time man.
