Completely untrue. The Roadking was in production for 15 years (possibly more though pre-1980 models are pretty rare) without the cdi. The cdi Roadkings were in production only for 6 years (perhaps with just a handful rolling out in 1997). So there are tons of Yezdis on the roads which are point-set.
That really is a beautiful collection Srini. Who is your mechanic in Chennai and how reliable is he? My dad's 1979 Type B has been gathering dust in my Grandfather's garage for 20 years now. Its the bike I've been eyeing since puberty but for various reasons couldn't get it out. I now want it restored. Suggestions would be great.
I have a 1995 Roadking which I picked up a few months ago here in Bangalore. Its on its first rebore and runs beautifully. Have a few issues to sort out but here's a pic for you guys.

You are true. The first model of Roadking was launched in 1978 with a 22 Ltr tank, and it was called as Dollar Roadking.
Shall post the pic soon.
Post 90 roadkings came with CDI. I might add my list some time soon.

^^ absolutely.. i did come across one, but it was much heavily modded than this one. the bike was made by suraj motorcycles in UP. A very very rare breed of bike, it also holds the honor of being one of the first diesel motorcycles in the world in mass production.
Thanks powertwin!! the diesel powered bike still continues to elude me.
Searching for a good enfield taurus, but unfortunately none of the owners are ready to sell it. So either a custom built bike, it will have to be.

The bike ( The pic posted here)you see is the complete Factory Fitted SOORAJ Bike,its not a modified one!! as you say.
As most of you are aware off>>. SOORAJ Bike is itself a MIX -N-Match Bike!!
Basic chassis from RE Bullet ( Just a couple of years before Royal Enfeild won the Legal battle to stop Sooraj Bike people[ Name of the company....sorry forgot
]) making bikes out of Bullet Parts.
however more then 20 k bikes had rolled out of the factory!!
Me to have plans to pick up a " Worlds one & only diesel production bike"

Good to see some active discussion in this thread
I am resurrecting my Yezdi RK. The bike has been revamped entirely - fully repainted and chromed - bling bling ! It is being put back together today and hopefully it will be ready in a couple of days.
I am wondering about the tyres though.
The MRF MotoD looks kickass on the bike but I know that MotoD is not really very grippy.
The Ceat Secura's look like any other ordinary tyre - the button tyres - I dont like them but they are far grippier than the MotoD's
Considering that I am not going to be scraping my knees on the RK
I am leaning towards the MRF...what say ?

Hey. You seem to have a veriety of options at hand but where are you getting them? A friend of mine has just spent about 15K to make his RK Leh-capable. He hunted for quite a while for tyres as apparently they have been in short supply recently. Choice is yours !! but I don't agree with LOOKS as far tyres are concerned , performance counts then LOOKS!!!

...only 2 options man - MRF or Ceat... You get the CEAT Securas in JC Road. Same with MRF as well... not too difficult...
You can contact my mechanic - Kutty on the number I have posted in the other Yezdi thread - with the pictures of the bikes he restored.

Even I know that Rks were produced from 77-78(Oilking) till the factory was closed(1997). Rks before 1990's were CB point based and post 90's were CDI. A lot of Rks that are seen are CDI based, i know just one person who has a CB point based RK.
Also, i agree that there are tonnes of Yezdis on road which are CB point based, however, only Yezdis, not RKs.
So i assumed that particular RK was a CDI.

Seriously man, while that may have been your experience personally, I can tell you that here in the south, in Bangalore and in Chennai there are TONS of Roadkings which are running on points. I have friends who have them and I have mechanics who both prefer and swear by them. Of course this does not mean there are MORE points-based bikes than CDI around.
