  • There is nothing rocket science about idling the bike. Though I might not sound technical (still learning about RX), would always suggest to have some idle and not zero. I would think when the throttle is cut off, would sound as if the engine is switched off. Coming to my bike, I have set it just right. It doesn't get switched off however, very low humming when the throttle is closed offering some fine music tune. Guess, adding RDD CDI kit bike idles even better. I would not have to do martial arts practice.

Karthik- (being away from home, you cannot resist posting, don't you?)
I have noticed some street specs bikes which is kept zero idling and they need to keep revving all the time during the signal/stops etc else would die. Yes, I do agree that when the throttle is closed it produces humming or even negligible sound from the exhaust. Bangalore and Mysore bikes are like you mentioned, cannot generalize to other parts.

Again I would think it is personal choice and not an IDEAL way to run the bike.

My personal opinion is, slightly rude than irritating. I would not think zero idle would contribute to FE and at the same time if idle is kept above optimum.

As we all aware carb can be tuned such a way that idle can be tuned to bare minimum or slight below the optimum, off course engine warming needed. Again, I'm not sure if this would result in significant change in FE.
Who cares on FE when it comes to RX .

@Raghu:- I understand that by throwing a question on this forum would actually get to learn many from other members sharing thoughts and their experience. Ideally speaking for the jerking issue, would suggest you to tune your carb to optimum and would yield result. I might have skipped pages and totally forgot about your bike's spec. If you wish and it is stock, then you will need to have optimum idle. Keep us posted on your findings if the jerking problem is solved then try other suggestions and suit the better.

RX100 workshop manual page 50 float height is mentioned there, float helps maintain an adequate level of fuel in bowl without it all your jetting/tuning is just going down the drain. It works on the bernolli principle if your fuel level is not adequate the atomisation won't be proper hence the usual problems pertaining to tuning. Also make sure you take the gasket off or adjust your measurements by 1mm that's about the thickness of the gasket. I am addicted to bike's new found power 200 bucks of petrol, an RX and a crazy guy like me guess what's going on soz for the late reply aargee

@karthik for the record my raggedy RX idles when I pull the clutch at any gear

      • ok..... i tried the zero idle while getting back from office to home.... No difference whatsoever to the jerking... Took a longer route for the empty stretch and riding in 4th gear at 70... throttle fully closed and the bike jerks... so guess the idling is not the problem..

I usually set my idling at bare minimum.. just enough not to kill the engine in neutral at the same time give a low sound... the way i like.... doesnt draw stares at signals

Thanks aargee for the pictorial explanation...I now can find the airscrew in mine.... believe me, i searched a lot on google(with limited internet access in the office, websense and stuff...) for airscrew.. couldnt find anything, you rock!!!!

I am gonna play around with the airscrew now, pls do let me know if its going to cause any serious trouble if i do a trial and error with the airscrew.. or if its fine...

Riding the bike with a litre of fuel in reserve....(less fuel in the tank).. could that be a problem for the jerking.....?

Can get the carb cleaned/optimised/needle adjusted... all in the weekend...

Will let you guys know how the airscrew experiment goes...

Do whatever, it will not help because, your jerk is when the throttle is closed. These things will not help. Do what I said & post the result to proceed further!!!

Do mix some oil in fuel & then play in addition to the oil pump; carry a brand new BP7HS along & plug spanner, just in case. NEVER lean & ride fast (forget ripping) until you're sure that you're running rich or just right. When you run rich, read the plug & adjust the airscrew accordingly.
