Mechanics will always mess up when fitting the Rotary Disc Valve...so be there, and take a look at the Manual to know the proper position for fitting the Valve.

    Gurus.....

Progress is slow, unable to get time between work & my 1 yr kid.

Anyhow, over past week, cleaned the carb and started the bike.
Was expecting to see an improvement in the engine firing/running.

However, it runs only on choke and dies when choke is closed or on throttle.

    What have I done:
    - checked the float height per manual (24 mm from case edge to float top, keeping carb inverted)
    - cleaned whole carb in petrol
    - Air screw setting - 2 turns out from closed (tried opening 2 more turns out)
    - Throttle adjusting screw setting - several settings from low to high. (at high setting it runs at scarily high rpms)

Don't know what next, please advise.

    Regards

Your Idle circuit is blocked....First remove the Idle jet and blow air through it. Remove the air screw and blow air through it, while blocking the Right side air hole with finger....next blow air through the idle jet seat hole....this should clear the muck......
The Throttle needle is set at the middle position....
The air screw setting is 1.5~2 turns from fully closed position...1 turn = 360 degree turn....
First try with 1 turn and then adjust for 1.5 and if it sounds rich, turn to 2 turns....
I am Presuming you have not touched the Rotary Disc Valve...

        psr sir,

        Thank you for helping.
Yestarday post work I removed the carb and cleaned the hell out of it.
And today post work, I fixed it and started the engine.

Its still refusing to idle. As soon as I let go of the choke, engine dies.

I have not touched the rotary disc.

What and where should I look/do next?

        Regards

          Quick update....

          RTZ idling beautifully now.....1500 rpm.
I had removed the resonator while removing the tank and forgot to put it back.
          Once fitted.....no air leaks.....idle on.

          Thanks again.
Will start a new thread and stop free riding on this one.

          Regards.

Here\'s a bike which I got as a gift from a friend about 9 years ago. I rode it for about a year and then destiny took me away from Ahmedabad. I am now seriously thinking of rebuilding this bike here in Bangalore. Do you think it\'s a good idea? Can anyone help me, in Bangalore, with a good mechanic and spare part dealer?

And I see a well maintained Bajaj BRAVO there, Is it still running on stock paint?
I remember, Bravo's had the best paint quality those days.

Looks pretty rough... though in Bangalore I suspect there are good resources, and the bike could come out looking like the one (from KL) in the posts below yours. Moreover, on the bright side, it is conceivable that the paint (?) spatter would've actually served to preserve the chrome...

My 125 was in scrap condition when I bought it, worse than yours, engine apart in a box, I guess about eight years ago now. At one point I had it fixed up reasonably well for the 15-year re-registration inspection. Since then, having been both daily beater and long-range Himalayan tourer, it's degraded and once again looks pretty much like a scrap item - but it runs well, still has valid RC, and brings such a smile to my face when I twist the handgrip. Will likely start a thread soon myself, as I'm planning to do a little rebuilding for the next inspection (coming year). It's going to be a cafe-racer-style build, I guess, already moved in that direction. Older son's just started school, and (crazy as it may seem) I think I'm going to fix this up nice and try to convince my wife to take him to school on it (the seat on my Impulse is too high for her, and not much point in buying a new scooter when I've got a perfectly good 19-year-old bike sitting there...).

Though relatively simple, these are slightly quirky bikes mechanically, and I'm not sure I'd advise a complete DIY-type thing if you completely lack experience (I'm an engineer who's been a DIY'er for decades and I still had a lot to learn with these). Mechanics who really know these bikes are going to be fewer and fewer now, as well. If you do get going on it, please keep the forum informed as to your progress, and if not, do PM me before you scrap it... I'd probably be keen on buying a few choice engine parts, or maybe the entire engine.

                          Regards,
                          -Eric

another thing - how did you pull the crankshaft into place while reassembling. the service manual says to use an arbor press.
Sir could you please give me the link of service manual of kb125?
