  • The very Old RX100 (1986, Japan)

I was not that much crazy in two wheelers. But things had changed when I came to know what is special with 2-Strokes from some of my friends, my brother and brother-in-law. And when I took a ride on my brother-in-law's RX100, me gt .
Latter me became damn crazy on 2-wheelers especially 2-strokes, when ever I use to get a chance to ride a different bike, I don't use to miss that.....My eyes always watched 2-strokes and some special bikes on road.

After completing my studies and getting into a job me decided to get a 2-stroke bike.
The next thing was to decide which one I have to choose(RX100, RX135, RX-Z, Shogun,RD). RD of-course the hero, but I dropped that dream since the bike I could't find the bike with anyone easily and because of its high price

Next my focus came to RX-Z, had some visits to Tamil Nadu, Dindigul (Done my Engineering in Tamil Nadu) in search of RZ-Z. My college Juniors owned RX-Zs and searched through some of the local workshops there. But I could't find any bike for which the quoted amount was reasonable when considering the condition of bike. When I asked for some beauties which I have seen with the juniors in my college, the reply was like ' I'm going to take this bike to my home after completing studies'.

In between me told my brother-in-law to tell me if he is planning to sell the RX 100. Another great bike I have seen(owned by cousin brother) is Suzuki Shogun...great performer ...but because of the problem with the availability of spares me dropped the plan for shogun also.

A year back me reached Nasik on deputation from my company. My hunt for RXs continued. But some of my friends there told me that well maintained RXs are having great demand, even I did't get much spare time there for the hunt because of the heavy work load and tight work schedule.

My friends in Kerala recommended for 5-speed 135(reason was, the 5 speeder and great performer which I can get for less price when compared to RX-Z ) and they spotted some 135s for me. So me finally me decided to get a 5 speed RX135 and to choose the best one from the bikes spotted by my friends.

The twist came when my brother-in-law ringed me and told that he is planning to sell the bike since he booked a new Yamaha FZ, so I can get the bike If i need. That time I did't think much and said 'YES I NEED'. My decision changed immediately from 135 to 100. It was only because

*That was a bike I know pretty well
*The Engine condition of the bike was ok
*And the main reason was, It was a 1986 model JAPAN made RX100
*I did't want to miss that bike, since Japan made 100s are hard to find now a days.

After all, the bike reached my home some 5 months back.
Colour - Black (Originally it was RED)
    Sale date -19/08/1986
    36L00,Y-2

I love 135s and RX-Zs, RDs even Yezdi s ....Don't know what will be the end...my eyes get in seeing well maintained bikes (135s and RX-Zs, RDs ,Yezdi s).

Here I'm starting a new thread, hope I will get all the help from seniors and great scholars here to keep my RX clean.

          Thanks Ram and prakhararya...

The first thing I have focused was to make all the papers clean(Tax, Insurance, pollution certificate). Next I was in search for a good mechanic.

The bike was fitted with signal lights and brake light written 'Rajdoot India' and the speedo written with 'RAJDOOT'.

A month before I have replaced some parts and some minor works also done.... Regarding Engine and all, the mechanic told me like its in a good condition and it does't need to work on all those things.

Since I'm just a beginner in the world of 2-strokes and all those mechanical stuffs, Just told only this much to the mechanic, 'I need to take him to the road like a showroom vehicle, that smoothness to be achieved. Thanks god, I have got a good mechanic, collected all the parts told by him and he had done it.

The remaining work to be done in my plan are..

          1) Front chrome Mudguard
          2) Butterfly crash guard
          3) New Oil pump(Pricol)
          4) Engine painting
          5) 'YAMAHA' Stickers on Crank case
          6) New number plates with rubber bush for the rear one
          5) New Chain cover
          6) New rubber kit for Head n Block
          7) 90/100 light kit
          9) New fuel Tank
          10) Front Discs

I will list all the parts which I had already replaced in this thread with some snaps ..

@Santhjit/All - When you say Japanese engine, does that mean:-
your bore is from Y series? Connecting rod is Made in Japan? Apart from outer crankcase depiction. What would it take to be more precise when we badge as 'Made in Japan' RX100?

Yes, its written 'Y-2'. Regarding other parts Im not sure. But what I have heard from others is, for Japan RX 100 major parts are from Japan.
In the 'carburetor' also its written '36L00' and 'JAPAN'.

Another thing I have noticed is, on the crankcase near to gear shifter its written 'Made in Japan' and inside the crankcase cover for Oil pump its written 'Rajdoot'.See the photos I have attached..
                          1)'Made in Japan'

                          2)'Rajdoot'

Between, whats special with Y-2 barrels and G series?

Others please share your knowledge on the queries by 'SriramEfunds' and 'satishg'.

1986 batch RX100 were CKDs, Engine and Transmission were completely imported from Japan. It was only assembled here in India. Thats what I am told. More Knowledgeable members can add/clarify.

@Sanjitjoseph: Congrats on your acquistion! This is an expensive affair so be forewarned Out of the parts you've listed, except for bore rubber, everything else is easily available. I would suggest you to take a look at cycle parts/rubber parts/cables and replace as necessary. While at it you may also want to take a look at your seat assy. With age, the plate tends to corrode. Unsolicited 2p. Hope u dont mind.
