Re: Zeus - A story of RX-Z restoration

One it can be a as I said faulty master cylinder release spring and mechanism

Second can be rust in caliper pistons jaming it....I have had some similar headaches, finally it was cleared only when both were changed (one thing I hate disc brake...seriously, )

I think your floating caliper is getting stuck ...bring it over the weekend and we will trouble shoot it...

Thanks PSR Sir for looking into the caliper and fixing it. I have not had a chance much to see how is it now, but there is a significant change after.

Re: Zeus - A story of RX-Z restoration

          Bump..

          Odo reads around 20,950 miles.
          Carb changed to 5 speed 4TL4 20.
The run in is almost over considering nearly ran 800 miles so far.
A big thanks to Vishal (agumentor) for using my bike for some time in between.
There were minor issues with 4 speed carb and had trouble chocking flooding if I pull around 4-5k rpm. Tried changing the clip position to lean out and air screw out, still it won't settle down to proper clean pull as I climb the rpm.
Came across used 5 speed carb and tried on the bike. After complete clean, it was plonked.
It is tuned so fine now that its music to ears with out distortion. I had FZ lever on the clutch side to match the lever pattern of right side. That has not gone well or messed up in due course of time.
I had trouble with clutch engaging during shifts, Vishal agreed too and clutch lever won't go back as if it list tension. Bought a new cablegram from ASC, since I know those people for years, replaced the cable for me.
Couple of points could be noticed.
          1. The cable at lever adjuster end started to pull up strands one by one.
          2. The clutch adjuster but at the engine end, was too tight and had very little ply.
          3. The return spring on the engine case cover was off the hook.
After adjusting the clutch ply and put back in place, now I'm able to feel the bike a completely different and I vaguely remember how it was. Enjoyed the run yesterday return from office on empty roads. Now there is no struggle to rev and needle on the speedo climbs with no hesitation.

Done over 1200 miles on the odo, took the bike for a spin as it is an irresistible piece of machine. Wish I was younger by ten years now to enjoy more days ahead.

                    Thanks.

Bearing number is common across manufacturers. This is what you need for engine as per Yamaha spec.
                    6304 - 2 no's.
                    6205 - 1 no.
                    6303 - 1 no.
Also you would need needle bearings for gearbox.
There are many shops around GP Road but one has to hop if not all bearings are available under one roof. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the response. I ended up buying 1 - 6304 and 1 - 6205 today as I have seen your reply just now. So I'll exchange 6205 and get the rest of bearings tomorrow. Can you help me with the bearing number for gear box needle bearings. I've found a shop in Broadway who is the distributor for Koyo bearings in chennai. So he should have those too.

BTW my ride is a RX-G and I'm assuming the bearings would be same for the RX family.

Nicely Built RXZ. Beauty for the eyes.
We will be 10 years younger when we sit and kick start the RX. So no worries about aging. Drive the beauties when you will be on your 80's also....

By the way are those 5 speed clutch and magnet covers a direct fit on 4 speed RXZ/RX135 engine?

Those are RXZ 5 speed covers that comes with RPM provision, factory drilled on clutch outer cover.
Yes, all the RX series can interchangeably used as the inner crank design is common to take. RXZ 4&5 speed covers comes with RPM provision feature and you can block if not required.

That is one beautiful restoration! I was in Chennai with my RX 100 for a couple of years. You guys got a lot of support there compared to Bangalore. Whenever you try to restore a RX, the mechanics and painters here in Bangalore are the most happiest people than the owners, their reaction would like "hey I got a goose which lays golden egg!". I read your thread from the start to end, it was a treat! BTW, is your center stand not releasing properly or it gets stuck somewhere in the middle before it touches the rubber bush (I may be wrong)?

Infact, Bangalore got lot of expertise than Chennai. Here many did not believe RXZ ever came with disc set up. Ok, straight to the point..Bangalore is filled with many garages, tools and could find a way to restore a bike. Here in Chennai I could not even say any one of them from what I have seen in Bangalore except mechs after your bike and wallet. Here even if you pay money, there's no guarantee that the job will be a quality one. I'm speaking out of experience as this is my third restoration.

Almost every part of the bike was sourced/bought outside Chennai. I don't even have to try too hard and the answer is simple, RXZ spares are not available in Chennai.

                                Oh good.

The center stand thing, there is small glitch that was spotted later that, the plate beneath has worn and was advised that it needs to be welded. I have not looked into it much as my run is very limited and it did not pose a practical issue at the moment. I will look into this and fix it.
