Changed petrol tap today. Cost Rs.60/- While re-fitting it after painting washer wasn't fixed I suppose. It was leaking at the thread and I was runnig around with a handkerchief tied to the tap It has dirtied my casings too

Weird thing happened today. I was on my way to office over elevated toll highway. The biking started jerking as if the petrol is over. Fair enough, I was expecting it. I turn to reserve, but its still the same Finally I come to a halt on the flyover

Pushed the bike 3kms to my office from there. As of now, I've left the bike in office, will go tommorrow with petrol and get it back.

How can petrol get completely over without coming to reserve? My father suggested that there might be some problem with that 'stick' inside the petrol tap. He is not prepared to believe tank can dry w/o coming to reserve.

I could not see any petrol in tha tank, nor could I hear it when I shaked the bike a little. I am pretty damn sure there was no petrol.

P.S I had to make an important presentation today

nitin seems to be your new petrol tap is at fault... bike drinking sudden fuel is strange.. or is your petrol tank cap air tight ?

Its a faulty Petrol T. Check the reserve tube inside, if its secured properly or not. For that you will have to remove the T. What happens is if the tube is not secure, it lets the fuel flow around it, thereby leaving no difference for main or for reserve.

And change the gasket on the T if its leaking a lot...

Whoa Nitin, you're experiencing almost the same problem as I has was experiencing in my old tank; I'd a similar problem but a little different here - same stuff, it runs into reserve, so I turn on the reserve knob & less than a KM or so, my tank runs EMPTY!!! Now should I not expect atleast 1 Ltr in reserve? But that's not the case. What I can assume is there should be a hole in the reserve tube or something like what JD says.

Or did you try my dirty trick of opening the fuel tank cap & giving a try?

Yes, I think it is petrol tap fault too. Like jd said, reserve tube may not be secured. Anyway the bike is due for service. Will leave it at the service station maybe tommorrow or Saturday. Will get this checked then.

@jd: It is not leaking now, after changing the tap.
@aargee: I didn't understand what trick you are talking about. Are you meaning to say blowing air into the tank? Did not try any of those stuff man. It was pretty obvious to me that the tank was dry and no way was it going to make to my office with residual fuel in the lines. So just resorted to muskaal power!

Petrol Tap issue fixed. The service advisor said, washer inside the tap was installed in reverse manner Absolutely no idea what he means by that. Anyways, ran on reserve for good 10kms. So hopefully I don't have to push the bike on a flyover

Completed nearly 3500kms since I started this thread. For much of those 3500kms I was struggling with dirty fuel tap. Didn't even know till I replaced it.

After replacing the petrol tap, bike feels completely smooth. It is rev happy as a RX should be. Does 70kmph in 3rd gear on a level road. Used to do 60 on the old tap. May sound silly and laughable but a clean tap can work wonders. Importance of clean fuel lines cannot be exaggerated at all.

Anti-rust treatment kit for fuel tank is not available in the market. Asked in DTW & Pacer. They don't have it. I think importing POR-15 is the only option.

Handling is in a different league alltogether. I have been riding this bike for 11 years now but never experienced stability to this extent. I really think my previous technician has worked on it. Small incident: I was riding on Hebbal flyover when suddenly a blue Pulsar-150 guy overtakes me in a confronting manner. He wanted to race I guess. I as usually ignored and continued riding at the same speed. Both enter the K.R Puram ramp on which there is a sharp right hander. After all that show baazi P150 brakes few tens of meters ahead of me, while I brake late and corner at sedate 60kmph. Please note, this how I ride usually and had no intention of getting into silly road race. In any case I am little too old for itThis guy is to be seen only in RVM. Thats handling and I understood it convincingly at that moment. RX100->Point->Shoot->Grin

Paint quality seems good. No peeling off. Chrome on silencer is so-so. That intial sheen is lost. Best part about the cosmetics is, it doesn't look bling, you know what I mean. It looks natural, atleast to my eyes.

Abandoned carb plans as of now. Will get it from my friends abroad as and when they return here. No hurry.

Decided against a full engine re-build inspite of having most parts. After scratching my head for almost a week, decided 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' Hope I got the saying right.

                Sorry for the long post.

@NitinGirish. The bike sure looks great ! Congrats man. My friend owns the same model RX 100 (1986, Silver). I use it for my long rides. Rode Bangalore/Mysore/Calicut/Trissur/Perumbavoor/Trissur/Palaghat/Coimbatore/Salem/Dharmapuri/Hosur/Bangalore on it some years back (just wife and I). Did a couple of rides to Ooty before that.
Getting it ready for a longer ride next month - Bangalore/Mysore/Calicut/Ponnani/Ernakulam/Alleppy/Kollam/Trivandrum/Nagercoil/Kanyakumari/ and back.
Will be making a couple of stopovers enroute.
Will upload some pics after the trip.

                  Good Luck,
                  Cheers

Thank You gentlemen for your kind words and waking up an old thread Wasn't sure what the forum etiquette is w.r.t to old threads, so kept mum.

Today, I replaced the old seat (one which came along with the bike) with a brand new OE seat. Couple of pictures.

Got this changed yesterday-Front Sprocket & Tongued washer. One in the pic is the old one, I am assuming it has never been changed. Cost-Rs.69 for the sprocket, Rs.4 for washer & Rs.10.5 for "Bolt RR Torque link" (no idea what that is)
