If you could brief the ambiguity when we measure reserve to reserve would help me understand.

You said that by using 100ml or 200ml of petrol shall find the mileage. However, my point is from when? Empty tank? Reserve? As I said earlier, by just one time exercise might not give the true picture. If I were to find out from my RX, would try to doing the exercise more than once to know the variability.

Tank to Tank, Reserve to Reserve and running on 100ml/200ml are the methods used to find. In my opinion, reserve to reserve way is slightly has an edge over other methods. Reason? Least you don't have to worry if we run of Main, reserve would help carrying on.

Filling 100ml/200ml of petrol and running would also yield result, no doubt, the cumbersome is that when it is over, you will need to do some math and fill fuel again(if tested on empty tank).

    Just my thoughts!

Guys, Thanks a lot for the helping hand, but let me tell again - CIRCUMSTANCES or its becoming highly impractical for me to check reserve to reserve. See, like, today, I'd to make a 100+ Kms via Chennai bye-pass & not sure how much would the 850 ml last. So if I get struck in the bye-pass after Ambattur, the next fuel station is HP which is about 23 odd Kms away. Also I do not know the quality of the fuel available. So it is better to trust the known devil near my home than the 23+ Kms away fuel station. Like wise, I stock up 3-3.5 Lts every week inorder to avoid visiting fuel station twice a week.

The pre-mix is also one of the troublesome way. But somehow I was determined to find this time & was forced to visit the fuel station twice this week.

This is Rx & I personally ride in speeds excessive of 70 Kmph EVERYDAY & after filling for 2 lts y'day, I ripped in 110 to catch another Bhpian in Getz . So no way I can get even 35, forget along 40+

I think this is going to be the best way for me under this kind of circumstances. Actually you're right, I could've simply hit reserve today, filled for 500ml, rode for a distance & measured the FE

Guys, I'm really sick of myself when it comes to calculating FE. This is the (worst) way I'm calculating the FE due to circumstances. I know this method isn't right, but still, the FE should be somewhere closer, but the fact is that, I'm making a blunder somewhere.

    I hit reserve at 8974
I fill precise to 2 Ltrs at 9002
Current ODO reading is 9028 & still the vehicle is not in reserve

So I opened up mains & measured the left over which is 850 ml before hitting reserve knob

This is how I'm calculating the FE
    (9028 - 8974)
    -----------------
    (2000 ml - 850 ml)

    Equals

    54
    --
    1.150 Lts

Equals = 46.7 No way I'm going to believe this & neither are you guys

    Pls help guys!!!
As I told you earlier, have some patience. When you hit reserve, just note the reading and fill it with exact quantity of petrol (say...2 litres petrol). I would not try to measure the quantity by opening up the main and checking. Wait until it hits reserve again. Note the reading and now calculate the difference. This way you would not want to run till the last drop and landing in middle of nowhere.

Having said above, you should least arrive at FE after few above exercise to know if not exact but the range (say 35-40 kmpl...whatever!)

I don't go round about and wait a long time to calculate. See my comments above. Logical, tried and tested.

Oh!!! Thanks DjVenom. I've passed all these phases; those are my experiences during Aug/Sep/Oct 2010; I'm just sharing those incidents here for record so as to help others

I too had flutter problem on my RX. Figured out it was due to dusty UNI air filter (Thanks to dusty roads) Soaked it in soap solution for 2-3 hours and then gently cleaned it all, oiled. Now bike runs perfect without any hitch!
Maybe its the same thing with you. Also lean the air-fuel mixture just a bit.

After the several OT's let me narrate the story on carbs

I was able to start up without a choke. Good. So I thought everything is fine; then there's flutter, which I couldn't recognize at that point. Gear 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 & now when I close the throttle, man it pushes the entire ride & me front & back Lol For the first time I felt as if I were on a rocking bed & not riding

This happened on a Monday & the entire week now I experiement & then learn that the vehicle jerks when the throttle is closed. On Friday, I go mad over this issue & start ripping thinking if there're some block in the carbs or jets then it would be choked away. What a dumb ass !!!

It only gets worse & the smoothness is lost. I now curse myself to have given to the mechanic for service. But remember these experiences are sometimes before July 2010 which means, before rebuilding the Rx. So I console myself saying since this is an old vehicle that is missing rubber on the cylinder & heads such things are prone to happen!!! Damn me

Ummm yeah thats the one i've been using since 2 years or so and came off when you were tehre. Hasnt been reored, just a change of rings in november.

Used to get 27 after rings change while riding full tilt everyday on BETL. Seizures happened because i ran into reserve while doing 70mph on both ocasions. Both were partial seizures, light marks on the piston which wont matter anyways.
