The route suggested by SP makes Pune - Palolem = 502km (NH4, NH4A - Pune, Maharashtra, India to Palolem Beach Resort - Google Maps )

The below mentioned timings are only guidelines we 'should' follow. This is a guideline not a rigid timeline. Please feel free to discuss / comment / improve / totally trash the plan . (Please leave the Ground Rule #1 untouched please, sincere request).

Some Ground Rules:
1. Everybody tanks up together at the same bunk. i.e. no stopping multiple times for tanking up multiple rides. (believe me this saves a LOTT of time)
2. Tank ups will ideally happen at meal + TP stops enlisted below.
3. A rider may opt out of a tank up you feel that the bike will easily go till the next meal + TP point. (Petrol in Goa is cheaper than in Karnataka / Maharashtra)

Total Travel time will be at least 12-13 hours from Pune (@Rockrz All calculations will eventually fail )

Pune - Karad is 161 Km.(6-8.30 AM) If we do good speeds, we will make it there in 2-2.5 hours. That would be a good time for breakfast. 8.30-10.00 AM (With lotts of TP )

Pune - Belgaum is 337 (Karad - Belgaum = 176 Km from 10AM - 1:30PM = 3:30 hours). We would be doing well if we all (both Teams) reach there before lunch (around 1-1.30 PM)

Resume at around 3PM (After a minimum 1.5 hour long lunch break & Assuming Team B has caught up AND had their lunch by now )

Belgaum - Palolem is 165km. We ride this part together. 3.5-4 hours should be more than enough considering the larger group size and lower visibility(towards the end) now. We hit beach post sunset at 7 PM.

Karwar(40km) is closer to Palolem than Gokarna(100km) by a good 60km and should be the preferred night halt. 100 km in the dark can easily take >2 hours without ANY halts!!

We should try and improve these timings and stretch the intervals between those water and pee pee breaks. But in all probability, this is how it will eventually not happen .

P.S.: After having a hard time explaining to my folks that Goarna is in fact a real place and not a made up word of a location on the GOa - KARNAtaka Border. I will be back to Pune in 2 days tops.

Lets not be too rigid on the plans Antz. We will accomodate every one for thier fatigue and fuel and pee breaks. Dont scare people

PS: Maths kisne sikhaya 8:30 + 2 = 10:30

BTW: The ride from Belgaum to Palolem is not going to be on butter smooth roads, so be kind to your butt.

As I had already mentioned initially in my previous post, all calculations /projections / estimations will fail !

And what do you mean by 8.30 + 2 = 10.30 ? (Don't tell me you were planning on starting from Pune @ 8.30AM !)

the time of 8.30 - 10 was of a leisurely 1.5 hour breakfast at Karad!! The 2 hours of ride time was accommodated in 6-8.30 with 30 minutes of people coming late and pee pee breaks. Believe me.. all projected timings had pee pee breaks calculated too. Also, Since as per my plan, Team A is doing 502km in 13 hours.. (avg speed < 39 kmph ) I am surely not trying to scare people off. The thing I am worried about is Team B reaching Belgaum on time with enough daylight to spare to do the final dash of 165km on a 2-lane (presumably pothole-ridden) road to Palolem (which should take < 4 hours because Goa roads are better than Karnataka and Maharashtra). My plans, though seemingly rigid are very flexible (and I don't mind a Seafood Lunch @ Goa instead of a business lunch at Belgaum.) .

Hi guys, I am riding to Karnataka and Goa starting tomorrow (25th). Till now the route and timings are not at all planned. Roughly, I will be in Goa on 30 or 31st and will be leaving on 1st to Chennai.
Would be nice to meet you guys somewhere around Goa . I havent read the entire thread and your itinerary (lack of time :P). And I wouldnt be having access to internet for the next 10 days. 29th December (Wednesday) Leave office, and head to Pune at evening. We will have a small dhaaba g2g there midway. Then crash at my place in Baner.
30th Leave for Gokarna and settle there
31st, Roam around in Gokarna and latch on to a party
1st , Ride to Goa/Home
2nd Back at home!

I would recommend that you stay at the Hotel Sadashiv motel around 10 kms from Karwar, located on the main highway. (when approaching from Gokarna). Very reasonable (a few hundred rupees a night) and good food too.

I might bump into you guys. I am thinking to take off on a whim, not sure where to go. Ride just for the heck of it!
