Day 2 --> Srinagar to Kargil (Part 1)

Disclaimer : Lemme warn you before you start reading the log. This one and going further parts may contain hell lots of HQ images. Please DO NOT blame me if you are viewing the T'log in office and your office admins blame you for maximum bandwidth usage...

          Good Morniiiiiinnnnggggg Srinagar...

After a sound and shaky sleep, it was now time to gear up and saddle up and proceed towards Kargil. Well, you all must be thinking why shaky ??? If you recall, last night we had hired a houseboat. When the tiny waves splashed against the boat, it used to shake and I felt as if we were sleeping in a cradle and the sweet n sane sound of cool breeze and waves were singing lullaby for us. It was just awesum I wanted to spend more time in Srinagar but more important was reaching and riding on Roof of The World.

We were quite confident that the vistas and climate conditions were definitely gonna change. We didn't wanted to waste more time and started our ride at 5 am. Some pics shot before the ride started...

          Around Dal Lake...

Oh wat fun it was to ride parallel to the lake...

          Shikaras...

Just 30 mins after the ride, we saw an huge roadblock set by the Military guys. They were allowing just oncoming traffic. They were allowing 2 wheelers so we made our way. We might have crossed 2-3 kms and we noticed in RVMs huge flock of vehicles speeding towards us. The road block was taken off. These tourist vehicles were driving very rash on that narrow roads and also overtaking from wrong sides. I was tailing Viraj and was riding on the left at speed of 90-100 kmph. As everyone was overtaking from wherever they want, I thought of overtaking an slow sumo from left. The moment I was riding parallel with sumo, he suddenly swirled towards me sending me off road. I pumped both brakes, downshifted gears and somehow managed to bring down the speed to 55 - 60kmph but it was too late. My both wheels got locked and weren't able to stand on the gravel. Bang !!! Me and my baby was lying on the ground Many people came running towards me and helped me and picked up my bike. Thanks to God and riding gears, I was unhurt, not even a minor scratch. My guardian angel was on ride with me to the Roof of the World

Viraj was unaware as to what happened as he was unable to spot me in his RVM because of the traffic. He returned back in 5 mins. Checked myself once again and yes I was in single piece. My baby was hurt though. Right leg guard was fully bent inside towards engine, lil bit scratches on the fairing and right indicator was hanging Bas aur kya, ye sab toh hota rehta hai. I thought of this Bikers quote..."Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't"... I got back and continued

Just 10-15 mins after the ride, the vistas were awestrucking. We stopped at an ghat section and munched some energy bars and started clicking. Resumed the ride and fir kya... Silsila chalu hua of "Ride, Stop, Click... Repeat". This continued until we reached Kargil...

The moment we reached Sonamarg, traffic of the Amarnath yatris was gone. What a sigh of relief !!! Finally a much needed break. Clicked lotsss of pics, rested for a while as the "The Mighty Zozila Pass" was right in front of us. Few pics clicked at Sonamarg...

          Amarnath yatris camped...

We started riding on the pass and just after few kms we were stopped by the military guys as an huge military convoy had to be cleared. Few clicks...

          Here comes the 1st truck...

          and the 2nd...

          and it continues...

Respect !!! Single guy monitoring the traffic...

          Few pics enroute Zozila pass...

Just loved this stretch. Road surrounded by huge walls of ice...

          Spot my bike...

          Leaving sweet memories behind...

Didn't had the guts to take off the helmet as it was freakin cold !!!

          The board says it all...

          Best stretch after Zozila pass...

          Flying low...

          Like minded firungi bikers...

          Bas yaadein reh jaati hai...

Wanted to munch something as we had only ate Energy bars and we were riding for like 6-7 hours. Spotted an small tea and snacks corner. He had just biscuits, cake packets, chips and boiled eggs. Munched whatever we could and continued with the ride. Believe me... This small tea and snacks corner gave me peace of mind, shaanti and nirvana because of its surroundings which none Coffee outlets in the crowded cities can do. Well, let the pics do justice...

We both were hungry like mad dogs. Decided to eat something at Drass. Finally reached Drass and entered the famous "Hotel Hill View". Ordered maggi, dal rotis and sabzi. Food was good and our tummies were full. After that foto session started. Clicked pics here and there. Next stop was "Kargil War Memorial'. Few pics of Drass town...

To be contd... Kargil War Memorial and ride to Kargil

Few pics of the Kargil War Memorial which is just 5kms from Drass. A must visit for everyone. I literally had goosebumps during the visit. Hats off to the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives and gave their Today for our better Tomorrow and also to the ones who are still serving and protecting our Mother India from enemies...
