Prologue

Some say "When you are travelling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. There are no yesterdays on the road." True that. That feeling when you ride on an empty stretch of tarmac brings a certain smile on your face : priceless. No matter how far you go, no matter low long you ride, no matter what you ride, that feeling stays with you the moment you hit the road. It is this feeling that builds up and remains as memories, memories which you would cherish when you look back.

It was time for a new adventure, new destination, a new taste of freedom. Wait a minute..did i say freedom? Miscozi, I did not mean that because it had been a busy week for me at office and all I had was just a Sunday to ride down to somewhere on this beautiful planet of mine. Along came Saturday and my minds were up for some windmill ride. I straightaway planned to visit Chitradurga because that was the best place to see windmills mounted on hillocks all over the highway. However, my knowledge was immediately shattered when both saquib3005 and @seahorses said that there are far better places in heaven and earth where you could find windmills, and that is near Pollachi, Tamil Nadu (I owe you one guys, your suggestion was really worth taking and it made my ride simply awesome , you guys showed the knowledge of the places yet again!). I shared my plan to ride down to Pollachi to visit the windmills with couple of friends and one of them accompanied me, Mr. @jeevan.life (bro, I really appreciate you accompanying me, it was both fun and thrilling to ride alongside you ).

Okay, so now I looked into the map and what I saw gave me a "colon O". Here is what the total distance came down to :

A total of 911 KMs (to and fro). I was really not sure If we can do this much in one day. I talked to Jeevan and he said lets start the ride, anytime we feel we are not able to do, we would return back. He sounded pretty much confident in us completing this ride within one day. For me, I was like 70% confident because the most I have traveled in one day on by bike was some 650 odd KMs. This was indeed a big leap for me though.

    Now, the riders:

    1. Jeevan (aka. jeevan.life). He rides a Red CBR 250R ABS.
    2. Me. I ride a Red Bajaj Avenger 180.

The plan was on and that was very important. We decided to meet at 01:00 AM at my house from where we would start our ride. Excitement is a harmful factor, if you have only few hours in your hand to get some good sleep and that is what exactly happened with me and Jeevan. Neither of us were able to get sleep, especially me because I had a thing for windmills and I was more than excited anticipating that I would be able to see sunrise along with windmills on the foreground. Who knew then that that is what will happen exactly and we both would be able to cover 900+ KMs in a single day (odo read 954 KMs to be exact) and neither of us actually were too tired (a stupid idea came on our minds to round it off to 1000 KMs by circling the city )when we reached back to Bangalore.

Anyways, I would share some teaser pictures as of now. Would be starting the log once the Prologue goes online.

                    Pre-ride Hastles

I had dinner around 8:30 PM and started packing things. As decided, Jeevan would be coming to my house sharp at 01:00 AM and we would leave towards Hosur. Needless to say, I was excited all along and it did not take much time for me to pack things, the most important among them were my camera and the portable charger. I went off to sleep by 9:00 PM, alarm set to ring at 12:30 AM. But holy Mother of God, I was not even getting a slightest bit of sleep, rather the excitement, the picture frames were circling my mind. Was switching sides on my bed and trying my best to sleep. Turned on Watsapp and got to know that Jeevan is going through the same problem . 1 hour passed by just like that starting at the ceiling and I realized there is no point trying now because I am not going to get any sleep now. Turned on my lappy and started watching a movie. Another 1 hour passed and I was wondering what Jeevan was upto. Called him up and the first thing that came out of him was "bhao, need nahi aa rahi hai" . I started laughing literally and said : "chal fir nikalte hai". Freshened up, got ready fueled up the bike from the 24/7 petrol bunk near my house and I was all set to start off the ride. Within few minutes Jeevan arrived at my place, full geared up and ready to roll .

Put my tank bag on the bike and was about to start the bike when I realized that there are no knee guards on me and they were inside my house. I ran inside, unlocked the room, wore the knee guards and sat on the bike, ready to start. Jeevan started the bike and the moment I was about to start, I realized that I have left the bike keys inside my house . Shook my head (technically it was a facepalm) and ran inside the house again. I wanted to see Jeevan's reaction that time though because I know he was either laughing on me or was red with anger .

The Ride - Part 1: Bengaluru to Pollachi

Finally, the Ride Begins at 12:45 AM. We speed past the quite and illuminated streets of Koramangala, Silk Board and Electronics City with literally no traffic. Surprisingly, Jeevan had not halted for tea till now and I was wondering when he would ask for it . Once we crossed the Karnataka border, the road started to deteriorate. Lots of flyover construction was happening on the highway and we had to take detours which were not so good roads, they were full of dust. We battled through the dusty road until we crossed Hosur. The moment we got the fresh air, we both were at our full throttle! I was starting to enjoy the ride now, turned on the music; some Trans beats to keep the momentum going when Jeevan came alongside and asked to stop for tea.

We pulled over to a chai shop and it was when I pulled out my camera for the first time.

Moments after we had our tea, we decided that from now on it will be a boring straight road, so lets make the next stop at Salem and lets keep that speedo past 80 Kmph. Again, once I hit the road, I turned on the music and trust me, the feeling was awesome! Cool breeze gushing in, only the headlight of your bike lighting up the silent dark road, can not just explain the feeling I was having at that point of time. I never felt like stopping for a second on this road and never knew when we reached Salem in no time. Checked the time and it was around 03:30 AM which was good because we did maintain a speed of 85-90 kmph all along. Jeevan wanted another tea break so we pulled over next to the tollbooth just before Salem. Jeevan has to fill his bike every 270 KMs and so he moved on to fill at the bunk on the opposite foot whereas I on the other hand took out my camera.

Another tea break and we continued our journey towards Pollachi. We went straight through Salem and took the ramp of the flyover on the left to take the NH 47 that was on the right of the NH7 we were riding till this time. NH 47 was marvellous to ride on all along. It was really easy for us to maintain our designated speed of 85 Kmph. Our next designated stop was near Bhavani, some 65 KMs from Salem.

I pulled out my phone and checked the route on the gmaps to make sure we take the right deviation off the NH47. We started from the short stop and continued till Tiruppur. I had turned on the GPS by that time and took the diversion from the highway. It was this highway where we were supposed to spot the windmills (according to google and useful information shared by my friends). It was 05:30 AM already and I was seeing the sky becoming brighter. It was in no time that the sun would jump up in the sky and there might be a chance that I miss the frame of the windmills I had in my mind. The State Highway 19 to Pollachi was simply awesome as well with some small curves along the way. Looked like a freshly laid tarmac to me at few places. I was keeping my fingers crossed, hoping the sun does not show up until we locate the windmills. Believe or not, few KMs from Sultanpet we spotted the windmills! The moment I spotted the windmills from a distance I literally braked hard ( I was lucky enough to stay on the road, but at that moment I did not care) because what I saw in front of me was a magical moment. Did I say magical? Well yes, offcourse it was because this was exactly the frame I was thinking all along. I could see the field dotted with windmills in front of me and at the background, there was a big, red sun. I pulled out my camera immediately, and started clicking pictures.

I turned towards Jeevan and he had also stopped and he was clicking the pictures as well . We spent a good 1 hour at that very place and I found one dirt road on my left that led to one of the windmills. After a while we both moved on that road and continued our windmill photography

Utterly satisfied with the amount and quality of pictures we took till now, we decided to move on towards Valparai. The only reason was that we were not even a bit tired and I never visited Valparai before. It was still early morning and there was still cool breeze in the air, so we found it easy to decide and make our move towards Valparai.

The rest of the road till Pollachi was dotted with windmills on both sides. It was an amazing view all along the way and I had to stop at multiple places either to take pictures or to just stand and relish the beauty of the road.

In no time, we reached the foothills of the Western Ghats, we reach Aliyar. It was around 08:00 AM and we stopped at a tea stall. Jeevan asked me if we would be having breakfast yet, but I thought we have come a long way now, just few more KMs and I would be able to see the beauty of Valparai, a beauty which I have only heard about. Breakfast can wait; first I need to have that experience. However, I was equally cautious about my decision because I was not on a solo ride. I asked Jeevan where he was hungry as of now. He nodded and I took a sigh of relief! Some pictures of Aliyar follows.
