Yesterday, i took my bike around while my kid was fast asleep. I had to make it really short and sweet. I took it to a town near cochin called muvattupuzha. Nothing spectacular, but the winding roads. I dont have anything to add like spectacular scenery or the climate, but the 90 minutes i spent on the bike and chilling at the coffee shop half way through. I dont have the time that most of you have. Mind you, i was takimg the bike through medium to high traffic.

Ride 17: Panchapalli Dam

Ride 17 - Panchapalli Dam

I had heard about this place by my friend Srinivas [MENTION=76753]ironmarine[/MENTION]
Today I actually wanted to ride to Belur and Halebeedu. But due to certain personal commitments, I had to cancel the ride. I had about four hours at my disposal and I wanted to ride to a serene place. So, Panchapalli dam it was. Started at 10.15 AM.

While riding to Panchapalli dam, I took following route

Home - Hosur - Hosur Inner ring road - Panchapalli Dam. Followed Google maps directions.

I must say that I was super impressed with roads in Tamil Nadu during my one week long ride across Tamil Nadu. But, these so called state highways after Hosur towards Thally and Denkanikottai are horrible. One has to be very very careful while going through this stretch. Once you are out of super smooth NH7, you go through pot holes and some of them are like 1 feet deep pits. I rode very carefully and some RX and TVS XLs were flying by my side with no care about road conditions. Came across an accident scene where a Yamaha RX had a collision with a bus. It was a bad scene. This entire circuit has surprising blind curves and many times few good stretches end with a surprising pot holes. One got to be very careful.

I cut through beautiful Tamil Nadu country side where post harvesting activities were in full swing. Land was being prepared for the next season at many places. Took many diversions as per Google maps directions. Enjoyed the rural side ride. At least some stretches here were better than the state highway and traffic was very less and some stretches were really desolated.

After a ride of 81 Km in about two hours time, I reached Panchapalli dam. It is right by the road on Denkanikottai - Palakodu road. It's a pretty big reservoir. Took few pics. In the mean time, a couple rode to the dam from the other side. We exchanged our opinion on the route. I was glad that I did not have to take same route back. Bid good bye to the couple. Rode further and found that reservoir looked better and scenic. Stopped for some time to enjoy the view.

As I was told, road to Denkanikottai was far better. Roads were narrow but neat most of the parts. Lot of curves through jungle till one reaches Denkanikottai. After Denkanikottai, pot holes surfaced and these were even more terrible. Traffic also increased and I was surprised by a bad pot hole and I got really concerned about wheels. All looked fine. With couple of Km to go to Hosur, took diversion towards Attibele and went past TVS campus. I was relieved at the sight of NH7. Reached home at 3 PM.

Total distance covered: 161 Km.

This gentleman walked quite some distance to ask me how the pics of the nursery had come. He was elated upon seeing the pics.

I have never seen a tree like this. I saw this for the first time. I do not know what tree is this.
