guys, is there any way to ensure we get accommodation at Pang / Sarchu, Pangong Tso, Diskit/Hunder areas?

I believe they have very limited accommodation available and these places are like you cannot go anywhere else from there in dark.

One more thing, your dates are matching the RE Himalayan Odessey plan. I am sure you don't want to go along with that.

Tents would be up by early june, in sarchu and pang. You can find accomodation ranging from Rs 30 to RS 1500 a night depending on the camps.

At Pangong stay at the Lukung log huts next to the lake. For better accomodation move on to Spangmik which is 13 km from lukung or stay at the rest house in Tangste which is 30 km before Pangong.

Anybody planning around August ?

Guys I was planning of riding to Leh, all the way from Mumbai sometime in August. I wanted to know if this would be advisable as august would be monsoon time. I am planning of taking almost 20 days off from work...Visit places around Rajasthan, maybe visit Bhuj along the way. Am planning of loading the bike in a train from Delhi on my way back.. But I am really confused about the weather in August

You might get rain in the plains. Some in the hills. Only sporadically. Beyond Rohtang, you would not get "much" rain. Do not let this "little" rain get in your way to Leh!

Thanks Ken, appreciate the response. How easy/difficult is it to ride during rains?? I am a noob biker - just got myself my first bike (ZMA) and I have clocked only about 400 kms till date on a two-wheeler Would I have to be very careful while riding? How often is there a chance of slipping and sliding in rains? and what are the average speeds you can do during rains?

Hey guys, i needed some help choosing the right bike for a trip to leh from Pune.

Maybe some of you already know that i had a zma which i sold after an accident. Now i plan to buy a new bike bt im in a big dilemma. i dont wanna buy a zma again since i already owned it though its an awesome bike. im not the bullet types nor i ever wanna buy a pulsar(thats a personal block in my mind). So can someone tell me which bike would suit this trip. i personally love the FZ bt i wish it were a lil more powerful. it suits my height (5'6) well & i love the comfort. other option is a used R-15. BTW how wud FZ fare for this trip. will it serve the purpose well ? is there any other bike that suits my specific rqrement i.e touring

Vivek, the problem is, after owning a Zma, there you are really not left with much options to choose from. call for the Power, or for the comfort or for the other issues.
Fz is a good bike but I really wonder how would it suffice the need when you have had Zma for some time.

otherwise, I would like to add, go for a bike that has more torque, good wheel base, good low end etc etc.
the options to choose out from unfortunately are the regular 150cc but I would somehow prefer....
FZ-16 for the Riding Stance+ suspension.
Gs-150R for good wheel base, 18" wheels, lovely low end, torque etc.
Unicorn for tried and tested 150 cc
Hunk-CBZ Xtreme---- good 150 cc.... nothing marvelous about them though.
Pulsars..150-180-200-220...well, they all have their own ups and downs but pulsar still rules the heart of a lot of us, try new pulsar 180, it has good power, dc ignition, heavier suspension and all....
ZMA/Bullets..... one of the ultimate Touring bikes in India, especially for hills.

I will rule out R15, for its bad turning radius and for all the fairing work.
RD 350, Yezdi etc....reliability and serviceability are the major concern.

Avoid the FZ, low ground clearance, R15 above mentioned reasons

Otherwise buy any 150 ... will do the job for you..

FZ has a GC of 160 MM vs ZMA's 150 MM. So do u still think its bad ??.FZ has a solid midrange ..isnt it. so that shud be suitable for this terrain.

How bout RTR 180 guys ?

Only problem is that you will feel of the lack of power on FZ specially on Plains.Not sure how it will fare post 13000ft.But if you find the bike suitable for you then go ahead.The bike is pretty comfortable.
