I am interested seriously and looking at possible dates of july-Aug.
Thanks for the heads up on that one. I will ensure my dates dont clash with theirs...I hate going in big groups. I have applied for a leave from work from Aug-3 to Aug-21 and am hoping to do the trip then, let me know if you can make it - on the way back I am planning of putting the bike in transport from Delhi.

          • I was planning a trip to Leh from Mumbai in August (as mentioned earlier). The timeline I am looking at is 1st August to 23rd August. I am planning of riding all the way till Leh and then on the way back, I want to put the bike in Transport from Delhi and fly back to Bombay. I just wanted to know if this is do-able or too tight a schedule.

I was looking to spend sometime in Rajasthan along the way. What I am targeting is to reach Delhi by 10th of August and then continue to Leh from there. Just wanted your inputs on whether this is too tight.

Also wanted to know if its possible to transport bike back from Leh itself rather than riding back to Delhi and then sending it. I mean I would do it only if it is safe to do so, I dont want any damages happening to the bike.

            • well, if you really talk about doable...yes it is very much, but Enjoyable...I dont think so.....
Dont miss upon riding from Leh to Jammu at least, should definitely not miss upon the wonderful Sonmary, Kargil, Dras......!

Maybe some of you already know that i had a zma which i sold after an accident. Now i plan to buy a new bike bt im in a big dilemma. i dont wanna buy a zma again since i already owned it though its an awesome bike. im not the bullet types nor i ever wanna buy a pulsar(thats a personal block in my mind). So can someone tell me which bike would suit this trip. i personally love the FZ bt i wish it were a lil more powerful. it suits my height (5'6) well & i love the comfort. other option is a used R-15. BTW how wud FZ fare for this trip. will it serve the purpose well ? is there any other bike that suits my specific rqrement i.e touring
How about the Avenger. Its got a modified Pulsar engine. Lots of people have done Leh on the Avy. The handling and stability is pretty good and its a joy to ride. The bike has its own issues and primarily has to agree with you.
Consider it if you are running out of options.

                • Avenger is a good bike but I doubt if I would ever be glad to take it to Leh, extremely bad turning radius, though it is comparatively comfortable in respect to other bikes that we have on the road but for Leh...... eh...I doubt.

But it again is my personal opinion.

                  Cheers.

                      • Shailay: Mate..you must be the first one this year to do Leh...congrats for being Mr. No. 1.

your pics especially at the Baralacha La has left us asking for more, but take some rest and post in your experience once you are free from the other things. I always wanted to do Leh in the last week of May or the 1st week of June, that's the time when the roads are not in good shape, we get to see lots of Snow, less streams, less travellers and Loads of views. Darn this office, makes me earn but wont let me spend where I want to .....!!!

Just a quick question were you able to reach PangongTso?
I'd rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
Ride often, ride well, have fun.
